Seems that every bowl game I have watched this year I have seen at least one coach trash talk (putting it kindly) a player from the other school. During the Armed Forces Bowl, a QB throws a touchdown pass and celebrates somewhat close to the other sideline. I didn't see him do anything demonstrative or give any crazy hand gestures but he was cussed out by an assistant coach and you could very clearly read his lips. As a HC, I would seriously have considered firing the coach on the spot not just for the trash talk but for how derogatory he was toward the opposing player. I know the players in college are not minors but to me in HS it is completely unacceptable to talk trash to opposing players.
Is this something that happens on your neck of the woods? What in the world would compel an adult professional to cuss out a 18-19-20 year old?
Maybe I'm just out of touch with the way todays game is played???

You're not out of touch. There's no room in the game for that. Not today, not tomorrow.
I can remember the first time I saw a player jaw jacking at a coach during play of a game one time. I was appalled.
You have keen eyes as I usually see that kind of stuff, but I haven't seen it this bowl season (just personally speaking). However, when I have seen it, I always ask myself, what makes a coach "go there."

We had a coach from another team shove one of our kids on the sideline last year. Pretty classy.

I don't see a problem with words. Especially in the heat of the moment. Especially at the college level and higher. For me, to do this at the HS level, I would really have to be in the heat of the moment. I never have done it and probably never will. I really don't think it should be done in high school. College or NFL, not that big of a deal unless it becomes so often, it becomes stupid.

Our defensive coordinator has gotten pretty vocal toward kids in the past. Our sophomore team's DC is even worse, especially during varsity games. He basically just stands there talking {censored}. It's out of control, but the HC is the one who needs to reign that in.

Not being critical of the OP, but there are A LOT of people on the sidelines of college games, especially bowl games. Do we KNOW that the people doing this trash talking are coaches?

I would assume seeing a guy with a headset on and calling signals whether a paid assistant or GA would be considered a coach and a representative of the school.
Sorry I did not clarify.
EDIT: He was also wearing the same gear as the HC.

Gotcha. I know at these games the sidelines seemed rather packed sometimes.

No place in HS or college, grow up...If I was an HC and one of our coaches was running his mouth to the opposition then he would no longer be on my staff.
That being said, there is a difference between stepping in (telling a player to get away from your sideline) and stepping over the line, the guy the OP is talking about, completely over the line, should be fired, no ifs ands or buts about it. He very clearly stated "F you you F'ing f....t." When is that OK for a coach to say to a player? And this is coming from a guy with a very liberal lexicon, just no reason for it, maybe your HCs are more lenient on class than others but if one of you dropped that line on my players there would be issues for sure.

That's exactly what he said. I even played it back and had my wife read his lips to make sure I wasn't going crazy. I couldn't believe it.

Completely unprofessional for a coach to trash talk an opposing player, especially if it involves cussing.

I've done it, although very tame compared to what the op was talking about. Had a player standing right by our coach as he gave the plays to our rotating player. I was very light hearted going back and forth a couple of plays with him, then I just said to the official to get him out of our area. Well, the kid said he could stand there and then he started barking a little bit at me and I jawed back at him. I said something rude, not cussing or vulger but rude nonetheless.
As as soon as I said it, the kids eyes got as wide as saucers and immediatly was calling for the official to throw the flag. The official just told the kid to move along and was actually laughing about it. I felt like an idiot instantly. The very next play I went out on the field and shook the kids hand and reassured him I was just bustin his balls like he was bustin mine. He smiled and no hard feelings.
It was a lesson learned though to keep my mouth under control. I

I remember a couple years ago Bill Belichik talking smack to Derek Mason on the Ravens. Rex Ryan did it last week when Geno got hit late out of bounds.
NFL - say whatever you want to whoever until it effects your coaching. College - really shouldn't happen but if it does in the heat of the moment and it's not done regularly, okay fine.
High School - definitely should not do it, but if it happens, the HC should talk to the coach about it and hopefully doesn't happen again. It depends on what was said, but I don't think a coach should be fired on the spot over it. If a HS coach said what the OP is talking about then some kind of reprimand is probably warranted.
That's just my opinion.

I saw some people on the Texas sideline doing it. Stepping on to the field and talking trash to a player during their butt kicking.(it was early in game.). Couldn't believe it and didn't like it.
Ive ve had players say nasty things to us during games and I've seen other coaches get sucked in. I just walk away if possible or even laugh sometimes. They are only teenagers.

It is not ok at any level. Be professional, act professional, and coach professional. If any coach on my staff did it they would be finding a new hime. Your not a player anymore your a coach, focus on the game. I have had players say and do actions to me, ignore it and coach. The issue comes in that many of the guys doing it have yet to learn the line between playing and coaching.

I used it as our slogan for the off-season. lol. Last year, I had a kid make a tackle on our side and he started yapping and clapping (like Florida Gator chop style) in my face. I just smiled. After the season was over, it was my rotation to be the defensive coordinator in the All-Star game. I got to choose my people. Guess which player was up for selection and didn't make the cut? Eventually, by communicating through certain channels, I made sure he knew why. Clap, clap, clap, clap...

If you as a coach are doing this on sideline and one of your players gets flagged on the field for taunting etc, how can you possibly handle that situation? Never ask a kid to do something you yourself can't/ won't do. Just like getting onto kids for being late when you your self as a coach come 5 or 10 min late to staff meeting or teacher meetings.

What about coaches trash talking other coaches? I've seen it a few times at the high school level where coaches will shout something across the field at the other sideline. Absolutely floored me. Anyone else seen anything like this?

Anyone else seen anything like this? Yes. In a sophomore game last year we moved a kid down because the rules said we could. He was of course tearing it up and the coach on the other sideline yelled at us "I'd bring down my varsity players too if my team sucked as bad as you guys!"
