Ultimately, If this is a huge issue for you then you are in a place that doesn't care much about the sport and you won't be consistently good.

I can't remember ever having a significant varsity player who missed a lot of time in summer that wasn't because of another sport they were playing. We haven't had the issue of some kid just sitting at home playing video games or sleeping.

This has been a hypothetical for me because I haven't been in a program where this has happened.

A few years ago we had a junior tell us that he wanted to play football. Thing is, he was a basketball player first, committed to a D.1 college so he was going to miss a lot of summer work to play AAU. So, we should have benched the kid who made this play in the state championship game? Who the hell would we have been kidding? I forgot how good those Phoebus teams were back under Bill Dee.

Actually, Coach Dee had retired after the 2008 season and was coaching in college. Stan Sexton was the coach here.
