raider 7342,
Sorry, I don't know how to frame the post that you are replying to but this is in response to your post:
I'll try to break down a basic year for you and not get too philosophical but I believe that some things that you do must be rooted in what you believe.
In the (2) situations that I have been a part of, the 1st situation we struggled initially where the 2nd one we had good success early on but the key for both was to stick to our guns and do the things that we believed in.
In my experience, the #1 component in building/turning a program around is CONSISTENCY IN WHAT YOU DO!!!
PHILOSOPHY: IF COACH HAS DECIDED TO RUN A CERTAIN SYSTEM DURING THE SEASON AND AFTER A SEVERAL BALLGAMES, HIS TEAM IS STRUGGLING, WHY DOES HE BELIEVE THEY WILL BE BETTER AT DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN WHAT THEY HAVEN'T BEEN PRACTICING FOR MONTHS!!
OFF-SEASON:
-In season lifting (4) days a week with (1) day of a general strength/body core exercise.
-Athletic hour is in the A.M. so our players can still work out even if they play another sport after school.
-Starting in February, we keep players after school for about 1 1/2 hours of off-season conditioning, running, agility etc. This is only the players not involved in other sports.
-We meet and talk football with our players in off-season as much as possible to get our schemes in prior to spring so we can get into it when spring ball starts and find out who can play.
-I meet a lot with QB's and watch film etc. b/c of their involvement in the option game.
SPRING FOOTBALL:
-We have about 15 days of spring football in Louisiana in pads.
SUMMER WORK:
-Our varsity works out as a team at 8:00 in the A.M. everyday and then does their scheduled running afterwards.
-(2) days a week we have position work such as play-timing, passing etc.
-We do 7 on 7 drills (1) per week with other schools.
SCHEMES:
OFFENSE: FLEXBONE
DEFENSE: 3-3-5
PRACTICE:
-We are a 1-platoon team, we either coach both sides of the ball or we service other coaches by running scout etc. for them, this works good for our numbers (about 60 players 10-12).
I'll be glad to get more specific as needed coach, just let me know or send me a PM.
