Do you grade your lineman? Giving them a grade and up-downing their butts if they fail will get those standards up.
Make them block until the whistle every play. If they don't, up-down the whole group.
There is one thing most OL absolutely dread, and that is extra conditioning.

There are a couple of reasons you want to see the team live.
1. See if anybody is hurt. You can catch the player standing on the sideline with his jersey on, usually. You can't do this unless you are live.
2. You can catch the offense's snap count live. You can't do that from tape.
3. You can see how they sub easier by checking who they run on the field and who goes off.
There are some others, but those are the few I can think of off the top of my head.

This actually happened the other night. One of my receivers mouthed off "why don't we throw the ball more?" (we're a veer team). I finally snapped back, " Why don't you line up correctly so I can actually call a pass play without you covering up my tight end and making him ineligible?" That shut him up.
In reality, a "because I'm the coach" should suffice.

Just run the same plays you are successful with. If they can figure out what you are going to run in a specific situation just from scouting you, then you have a problem that needs to be addressed anyway.

This might need to be moved to the Rules section, but here's my beef with the horse-collar rule in the NCAA and UIL. If your runner is soft and goes down easy, then the new NCAA horse-collar rule will reward him if a defender just grabs in the general area and immediately stops him. If you have a tough, fight for extra yards guy running the ball, then the horse-collar rule doesn't apply. So the rule basically can reward backs who immediately stop when someone touches them from behind.

Put it to a vote... have the players vote on it. They're the ones that have sweated and bled. They should get to make this decision.

I had my first experience with a girl last year. I learned a couple of pointers.
1. No extra pads are necessary, but you can't play her at center or QB.
2. Make sure the girl's coaches issue her a locker if she changes in the girls' lockerroom. Our girl last year went through the whole football season without the girls' coaches issuing her a locker (boys' coaches didn't know about this until she lost her equipment).
3. Watch what you say. It only takes one comment for a parent to try to put your head on the chopping block. I didn't experience this, but another coach did a couple years back.

The reason Spector is doing this is the same reason why Congress called baseball representatives before Congress... to attract media attention to themselves. Only this time, there is no clear Congressional issue. But, hey, how many more people have heard of Arlen Spector?

Keep a pool with ice water for immersing any heat questions in an air conditioned area. This could be a life-saver.
Keep track of the weights of every player. If they lose more than 5 lbs in between practices, have them go in shorts.
As most coaches, especially in the south, know, heat exhaustion and stroke are VERY SERIOUS matters.

Todd Dodge just took the job at UNT. Very exciting for me. Wonder if anyone has any opinions about this, especially turney.

Notice that by "coaches" we are all the sudden talking about HC only. Maybe the DMN can do a followup on the rigors of assistants and how much they make.

Coaches in the Dallas-FW-Denton area, would anyone be willing to let me observe their spring practice?

The question I have is: 3rd and 2, on your own 28 and the left hash, 2 TO's left, creeping in your kicker's range, yet you throw it? Why not try to get an easy 1st, or maybe move an inch closer and center the ball?
BTW, that was the worst field goal attempt I have ever seen at the NFL level.

I forgot to tell ya who I would REALLY like to see. That would be the great Lou Holtz. I don't think he speaks at clinics, has anyone ever seen him speak anywhere? Really? No offense, but he can barely talk half the time he is on ESPN.

Try using the scatter formation for a couple quick tricks. The tackles should split out wide next to the receivers, the slots should line up behind the other receivers.
XT GCG TZ A BQ Y
throw a couple quick passes out to the slots. Then, throw another quick pass out to the A-receiver (or whatever you call the left slot) and have him throw another pass to the Back running a seam route.

Brian Waters, currently of the KC Chiefs, switched from being mostly a defensive lineman at UNT to an offensive lineman. Now a Pro Bowler.

Colleyville Heritage in Texas runs it. North Mesquite used to run it and I think Wharton runs it.

IMHO, Friday Night Lights is the best football movie ever. The one football movie that doesn't feel too Hollywoodized. Plus, I can realate to the agony of never playing football again.

I don't think this comes into play against a B12 North team...Now if they were playing Baylor in a Bowl, I think it definitely applies.

Okay, here is a scenario... what if UF beats tOSU? Does UF become Nat'l champ? Do we have a split champion like LSU/USC?
We need a playoff.

No uhh... he said for this spring. As far as I know, Jr. High doesn't have spring practice. To clarify, I am at a JH/MS. We don't have spring football with pads, but we do start working on some technique stuff in the spring. Good responses thus far, I am looking into a couple different options.

Looking to build an OL chute for this spring. I was thinking of just using PVC pipes and saving money. Would it be worth doing or should I just get a professional one?
Also, what should be the dimensions for a Jr. high chute?
