I took an old football that wouldn't hold air, a broomstick, and some Great Stuff spray foam. Made my own "football on a stick". Much more durable than the plastic handles with a nerf ball on the end they try to sell for $80.

Here are a few fer ya....
-Punt Returner sees a high, short punt and lets it bounce. Then he calls for a fair catch, catches the ball after the bounce and hands the ball to the official who, as far as I could tell, was lost and blew the play dead there.
-As ST Coordinator, I ask the kicker if he knows what a squib kick is. Of course, he says he does, but we all know how this one turns out. He ends up kicking an onside kick that is fielded, like jeter, by a big fat lineman who breaks through our KO team and goes to our ten. they score two plays later.
-Same "squib" kid as above...right before the half...we call timeout to reinforce that we are going to "sit on the ball" and run out the clock. HC goes into the huddle explains this and as he is running off of the field, the TE (same kid as above) sits indian style in the huddle. His quote..."You said we were going to sit on it."

we do our agilities, which are dynamic stretches, before static stretches. they aren't really long (5 mins) and i'm not sure if there are any we should add to our routine. We basically use the BFS agilities. are there any dynamic stretches that are an absolute must?

where can i find examples of some decent dynamic stretches or a routine? does anyone have one or can you point me in the right direction?
on another note...what do you do about pregame meals? do your players leave school at the end of the day to eat? do they eat at school (after dismissal)? what time do they report back to school?

what type of flexibility do you work on? dynamic stretching? We spend WAY too much time stretching and I'd like to change that. We have the players run through agilities before stretching so I would like to seriously change our stretching to cut it down to at most 10-15 minutes.

What is your pre game routine? dynamic stretching? How early do you have your players take the field? What drills/activities do you have them run through? Are they in off/def groups?

I took an athletic peak performance class in college where we used this stuff everyday. The class was full of jocks and, like you said, it was interesting to see how it worked over a period of time.
I think i'm going to teach our athletes some of the techniques i've learned and have them develop their own individualized program to use - the ones who actually want to anyway.
Your opinions - best time for voluntary group mental imagery...
After Thursday practice? After Monday Practice?

In my opinion, certain kids take to the "Lattimer" approach, but others, especially those who have no clue how to get ready for a game, need direction. I used the relaxation techniques as a way to get them prepared. The kids aren't really at peace, they are mentally prepared to play. They are thinking nothing but positive thoughts. I have, however, wondered if I need to move this exercise to earlier in the week/day.
I thought our kids played well after our sessions. I didn't notice any "sleepy" play at all. We were very undersized and not the most athletic kids, but we did okay.
I never had a problem with kids not taking it seriously and I did not participate myself. I let the exercise. Then again, I didn't make it mandatory. I try to make it so that kids can go through the exercise with me and then do it on their own too.

This past season, I was the DC and DL coach. During pregame when all the skills were warming up and my big uglies were still in the school, they put on their lowers and i walked them through some relaxation techniques and some mental imagery. We would find a dark area of the school (either gym, natatorium, or small hallway) and they would lie on the floor. After I took them through a relaxation period, I had them picture the perfect play. Getting the call, coming out of the huddle, seeing the block, technique, tackling, etc...
I did this about 1 hour before the games (fit our schedule). Anyone else who does this, when do you fit it in? Should it take place sometime during the week? Right before the game?

They loved it and it seemed to help a little. Pretty soon, they were asking for it when we traveled. Time was not on our side, but we tried to fit it in. Then I had them try it on their own on the bus to the away game.
We didn't have any all-staters or anything, but I think this helped a bunch of our kids play to their potential. This season, I plan on expanding this sort of thing to more of the team.

We have done a number of things with the film. Past... -Coaches have copy after game and review saturday on their own -Coaches meet sunday to discuss friday's game (watch) and gameplan for next opponent (watch) -Monday meeting with kids: watch entire film(we would end up rewinding certain plays 37 times instead of moving on)
Present... -Coaches have copy after game and review sat. on their own -Coaches meet sunday to discuss next opponent (develop gameplan) and talk about "fixes" from friday -Decide on a few plays (pos & neg) from friday to show on mon. -Monday show cut-ups of selected plays and go over gameplan
Future... Who knows... Maybe meet on saturday morning as a staff and with the athletes after they lift.

How and when do you show your players the game film? By position? Saturdays (Friday night game), Sundays, or Mondays?
Do you grade your players?
