-We had tryouts for baseball yesterday and 6 kids didn't have physicals yet. And they have been constantly reminded by our HC since fall ball that A.) they have to have a physical to practice and B.) Physicals last for one calendar year. I have seen this in coaching football and baseball at a couple of the schools I have been at. It's abundantly frustrating to have kids and parents that don't have that stuff ready on day 1. A few years back I had a situation like that. 4 of our top 6 DB's going into the season didn't get their clearance forms taken care of in time, obviously we needed to fill those positions in. Well one of the kids we filled in with was, at the time, a part time DB and backup WR (only because he was truly focusing on playing more at WR). He was probably 9th on the depth chart as a DB. Well this kid had no choice but to get in there and play a lot while those other kids were getting cleared. He ended up holding on to a starting corner spot all year and then went on to walk on at CAL (where he is still currently playing corner). It was great for the kid in the long run but I was so frustrated with those 4 at the time. Needless to say, when those kids finally did get cleared most of them were not to happy about their playing time giving me a bunch of "yeah but" when I told them he was playing better than them.
