What are your favorite pregame meals for your players? Do you try to give a variety?

What are you looking for? One of the big things that I've found HC's don't appreciate is the $$ side of things. Having to scrape by scrambling for every $ has made me appreciate funding and donations and the Booster Club ever so much more. And it's the $$ aspect of being a HC that will get you in trouble. My 1st HC position came with a $9k 'debt' that the previous HC had run up and that the school had covered. That wasn't fun. I've got all kinds of $$ files that you can have, might be something in there that can help. Let me know if you are interested in them. No cost or trade or anything. From the link below go to the Operations/Finance folder. I've got a lot more that I haven't dropped in there yet. If I knew more about what you are looking for I probably have a file for it. www.dropbox.com/sh/2mpbl03bad23uww/AAC80R-ujX5CjABDJQOqAhNHa?dl=0Let me know what you think you might be looking for and I'll help out as best I can. Thanks. I'm looking fora a list of what stuff cost that Admin. doesn't cover.

This is my first go at being a HC so I'm not readily prepared with a list of items and costs that our district does not fund, which is pretty much everything. We have a "pseudo" 12th man club that refuses to do anything through boosters. They are however willing to spend money to directly provide upgrades, etc. I need a list for them but do not want to submit completely arbitrary numbers. Does anyone have something that may give me an idea? TIA

We are a 5A school (1900 kids or so). We have 29 public 3 big private and several 1A private schools in our county. I am only aware of 1 other school struggling with numbers similar to us. Average is around 54 but there are teams with over 100. After mandatory state aligned district play our County A.D. makes the schedule and uses a point system based on wins and losses that attempts to schedule "like" opponents. Why are there only 21 kids out for football in a school of 1900? 4.5 years of program destruction. We will get better, but that's not what this is about.

Are you running a split field 4-2-5 like TCU or a glorified 4-4? TCU

What are you running scheme wise? We have been near these numbers too and would never have a secondary out there in team o periods. Team defense can be a major pain since you can’t even put 11 guys out there. Learn to love 7-7 and inside run for D. Keep them as fresh as you can and realize your practice plan can go to chit if one or two kids miss. Have to be flexible in how you approach stuff. 4-2-5 11/12 Personnel Power, CT, Jet, Screens

option1 any idea how any of your neighboring schools/opponents are doing in this regard? Are you playing a bunch of other 20-30 man 9-12 squads or are you the outlier on the schedule. We are a 5A school (1900 kids or so). We have 29 public 3 big private and several 1A private schools in our county. I am only aware of 1 other school struggling with numbers similar to us. option1 is that 21 players grades 9-12, or varsity only? Total. We currently have 1 9th grader. Probably not so coincidental freshman are the highest percentage of parents/students that opted to do full on elearning for this semester.

This will be my first experience with this type of scenario. It's also my first year as HC. I've lost 6 coaches in the past few months and our district red tape has made it hard to replace them. We have a guy for OL/DL, WR/DB's and I will assume the other positions including OC/DC.
Numbers at this school have been down the past couple years but never like this. We are returning to school on a split learning platform and without access to all students I don't see numbers growing too much. This group has been working hard all summer so I do believe they will stick it out. We officially start 8/24. I've tried to figure this out by having priorities but I end up talking myself in circles.
Priorities:
Health and Safety - Everyone finishes the season
Competition - Learn to compete
Skill development - Learn to play the game
Application - Apply skill development to the game

I always like to look at how these coaches actually do with their teams. There's never a shortage of guys who become "famous" or "popular" because they know a few buzz words the profession is enamored with, but...

Are there any teams that follow Tony Hollers Feed The Cats practice philosophies? What he is saying makes sense, BUT, I'm not sure how to think about a track guy waxing poetic about football practice structures. Use the "Search" function above. You will find more than you bargained for. I'm reading those. Haven't come across any yet that extensively answers the OP. Still reading though. I'm not asking about the type of training as much as I am interested if any coaches have gone all in to the idea of less is more in terms of practices, etc. And also what those models look like.

If you are selling your program to a room full of parents, and your program depended on it , what are you saying?
What are the tangible elements of your program that others want to hear about?

Do you have a set way that your team breaks down at the end of drills/practices? I let the players do whatever they want and it's usually just our mascot. When they try to be creative it can be pretty funny and awful.
I remember the Ray Lewis years when they all tried to recreate that, my word...

Last season there was an issue with a pushy parent. The stories are pretty bad. It got me thinking about distractions and having to step in at some point and that convo only making things worse. I've been at one place where the parents served. It was good. They served, sat at their own table to eat, cleaned up and left. Never a problem.
I haven't been in a program where the coach didn't either organize the food or serve whatever/whoever donated the meal. It's not hard to find local businesses to do ziti or chicken and yellow rice bread, salad and cookies. We provide the gatorade.

Oh, I'm not fooled and I pay them no mind. If it is a necessary evil for college programs, and they're spending big money to brand their programs I imagine it is a good idea. Kids need to feel like they are cool and that the things they are a part of is cool. Of course we don't have a college budget. Thanks for the ideas. We're also competing vs YouTube, Tik Tok, Instagram, Juul, weed, pornhub, etc etc etc for a kid's attention. Why stand around at a 3 hour practice waiting to HIT SOME BODEE if you can snap chat your nuts to someone, smoke a bowl, hit that cherry limeade Juul, and order a pizza on your phone instead? Gotta make your program cutting edge, fun, and able to compete vs Fortdouche and the 5 things that can kill any kid's HS career: their parents, drugs, drinking, jobs, & dating.

How do you brand your program in and out of your halls? Do you follow a college model? What types of things do you do with social media? What is the budget like? Don't let the other old farts fool you (I'm an old fart now, too)- it is important to "brand" because if you aren't, someone else will and they'll be Crootin your kids away because now a day HS football has an acquisition element to it. I would be authentic. If you're a Wing-T team why not beat the brand on winning the old school way? If you're air raid make sure you #someplanesflyingby I'm half joking... but seriously, I would be authentic to myself and my program. hypothetical: We're the Middle American HS Bumble Bees #BeeGreat20 Grit Relentless Effort Accountability Tough So my pictures on the website, Twitter, weight room walls would be of those things with the #BeeGreat and #GritGang20 Does your front office lobby have a TV? See if they'll put on a PPT you make with graphics and the #BeeGreat20 stuff and even a highlight play or two on the thing. Make up some #BeeGreat20 posters and see if your local bar & grill and fast food joint will hang them T-shirts / visors and neon green arm sleeves (Air Raid only) / towels / Juuls / slap bracelets / sex toys... whatever you can brand with #BeeGreat20 Make sure a student is doing your graphics so they look cool and it boosts their resume too Oh, I'm not fooled and I pay them no mind. If it is a necessary evil for college programs, and they're spending big money to brand their programs I imagine it is a good idea. Kids need to feel like they are cool and that the things they are a part of is cool. Of course we don't have a college budget. Thanks for the ideas.

This is just excellently crafted. So good that, having no interest in branding, I didn't read it at first. Yet you opened the thread...

Would anyone have a general letter of need that they send out basically asking for donations they're willing to share? Seems simple enough but I'm a slow blinker when it comes to these things. I've seen some pretty good ones in the past where the booster/coach list the programs deficits and needs along with what things cost. We're not aloud to do things like Go Fund Me.
