Take time to enjoy it. We set the school record for wins Friday with 12. Now in 3rd round of playoffs. Got a great group of kids and it is a lot of fun this year. I am bad not to enjoy the victories. But to want to move directly on to the next one. Take time to enjoy them. Bc the next season you may not have the chance to.

Huge advantage. Today we were able to lift. And teach the defensive gameplan and celebrate with our playoff party before practice at 330.
Tomorrow will be lift. Film on opponent day.

I have our entire Varsity team in 4th period class. So we watch film together-generally 30 minutes or so after we lift. Monday is previous game, sometimes I make cut ups, but usually dont have time bc of preparing gameplan practice etc... Tuesday is Friday opponent, almost ALWAYS make cutups, their D against similar O to what we run. Main coverages, front, blitzes. Their O, any checks we have to make and favorite plays. Wednesday cutups is special teams. Thursday and Friday are a quick run through of clips we havent seen yet. specify, traditional period day or block... big difference... We have 90 minute classes.

For us, it is more about formations, shifts, and motions, we havent added any new blocking schemes in quiet some time, kind of the same thing on defense. What do we do or have that is good to what they like to do on O. Maybe a new check or two to something different.

Hudl sideline is absolute garbage Every team we played this year that used Hudl Sideline had the same complaints. We use SportScope and it's significantly cheaper and we had zero technical issues with it this year. I would recommend it to everybody who wants sideline replay and is unhappy with Hudl Sideline. We used vidswap and once we figured it out it has been great. Much cheaper than hudl. Great customer service. But trading film is a huge pain!

In our first game the officials allowed our opponent to punt with 12 on the field. Twice. In a row. First time I go out to white hat and ask him to watch next time. I think they had 12 on the field on that punt. Next punt. Sure enough 12 again. We returned it for a TD. So I didn’t feel like that was the time to complain.

Our coaches get... a pair of shoes a couple of T shirts a couple of pairs of shorts a polo for games a hat and usually later in the year, a hoody, sweatshirt, pullover, or jacket for cooler weather. You add coaches each year I want everyone to have something to wear to help keep them warm once the weather changes.
We are a 2a school in NC (around 700 kids)

I like BSN's line of shorts and shirts, very comfortable at a pretty low price compared to UA and Nike.

I agree. In NC we haven’t been allowed to start school until the week after Aug 25. That’s 25 days of official practice with at least 1 game before school where you really have to worry and work to make sure all your kids get to practice and on time. Also, as Woodall mentioned. You are there anyway. So you might as well start knocking out school Days!

We are moving from 3-3 to 3-4. Like some of have mentioned the strength call really means nothing unless I want the DL to slant strong or weak. Can just as easily make it left and right. When we were 4-2-5 we set the 3 in different places vs different formations based on the game plan.

Base rules are 1-TE 2-Most number of WR 3-Rb
But honestly. It’s pretty easy to change it from week to week based on game plan and tendencies.

Oh yea. That doesn’t make a lot of sense….I hate having varying start times…we are gonna start at the same time each day. I don’t won’t their to be any lack of understanding from our kids or their parents.

We're about 10-10.5 hours per week in the summer over 4 days. It's a pretty good balance I think. Unfortunately two of those days start at 5:30am which sucks for me but the kids don't seem to mind it too much. I know the huge majority do like being done by about 8:15am on Thursday and not back until 2:30pm on Monday. What on God's green Earth is the rationale for starting ANY HS activity at 5:30 am?! Heat??? Maybe they are in the ungodly hot parts of Florida or the desert Southwest??? Only reason I got.

We are probably right on the line as far as doing too much. But. It’s pretty much in line with what other programs around us that are successful are doing. And I have seen us get us get better at football during the month of June.
We got Mon-Thur 9-about 12. Kids are fed light breakfast and school lunch from cafeteria. Warmup and lift takes about an hour. Then I give them about 10 minutes to rest and get their cleats and get up to practice field. Then we do speed/agility/conditioning for about 30 min. Give them 10 min to get in shade and rest. Then practice 1 side of the ball for an hour. We do either 1 or 2 7 on 7s per week during that same time.
I would not object to doing the same work but only going 3 days a week. Tues-Thur. But. Keeping up with the Jones….

Excellent point. 25-30 kids 9-12 in a school Of 155 is great.
We have alot of schools around with 3-4 times that many kids in the school who have those type of numbers.

We do 60 min O and 60 min D. On a clock. 5 min periods. 12 periods each side. A normal Tuesday would look something like this for us....
Dynamic Warmup (not on the clock) 1 special team (not on the clock) Offense-60 minn (12 periods) 5 min team goalline 15 O Indy 5 min team screen 5 min team pass (blitz pickup) 10 min inside run 10 min 7 on 7 10 min team 5 min water break 1 special team (not on the clock) Then something similar for D.

I am starting to see this a little. They generally make up the school recruiting packet, and handle most of the information others have mentioned. I can see this more at a larger school with a bigger staff on campus. Our school, is a small school and all 3 of my assistants on campus coach a spring sport. Therefore, I handle most of this type of stuff.

As mentioned-it varies from school to school. Most D3 are private institutions, and are therefore very expensive. They do usually offer some kind of financial aid in attempt to make themselves somewhat affordable. We are starting to see several state institutions offer in state tuition to students from neighboring states in order to increase enrollment. That varies greatly from state to state and institution to institution.

I’m beginning to believe they are a necessary evil. I agree some are money grabs. However, if a schools has shown some legit interest in you, but hasn’t offered you almost need to go to that schools camp AND perform well. The flip side of that coin is if you go and don’t perform well then they will write you off.
My general advice to kids is to not spend too much money on them. But if they are interested in doing the camp thing….do 3. Choose one local camp. One dream school camp. And one mega camp. Would also advise anyone who has had some legit interest from a school but hasn’t been offered that they should attend that schools camp. But need to perform!

I didn’t have to. It was in place when I got here. And it’s generally in place at most schools around here.

I'd still like to know if there was a different set of rules for Las Vegas schools than the rest of the state? Based off this....."and the Las Vegas schools have been approved for 20 spring full padded practices."
I am not saying dont work them hard in the spring or dont do spring ball or dont lift. But I do think you are kidding yourself if you think you are gonna get them to show up to lift at 6 AM and stay after school to practice.
If you cant lift during the school day.....thats a real blessing by the way. Then go 4 days a week after school. Give everyone Friday off..... Lift for 30 min and then get on the field and practice one side of the ball for an hour. Or alternate lifting days and practicing days.

Are Las Vegas schools sanctioned or governed by a different association than your school coach? Why did they get approved for 20 padded practices and not the rest of Nevada?
I think you are going to have alot of trouble with that schedule. I get why you want to do it.....you need to get stronger and you need to put in your stuff and practice. But, I bet if you are at a school with over 50% free and reduced lunch, your numbers at a 6AM lift are not gonna be very good. You may get them to stay for practice after school, kids will do that, but kids that dont have a car are not gonna bust their rear end to be at a 6 AM lift. They are gonna tell you coach I have to ride the bus....
As for us, we are a 2A school (700 students) in NC. We are fortunate, all out returning players are in my 1st Pd class. So we get our lift out of the way in school. Next week we start our spring skill development-each position group will go out 1 day a week for an hour. In early May we will start 10 days of spring practice, these last 2 hours. In NC, I cant make anything mandatory until Aug 1. So these spring sessions are optional. Although I dont tell the kids that.

Only problem I had is I can’t get our new helmets we order in less than 3 months. But my buddy at another school got his helmets back plus 15 of the same color and type that weren’t his. His sales rep told him to keep them. They had no way of knowing where they should have went. I told him someone is going to be really pissed off about being shorted 15 helmets!
