For those of you high school coaches, what kind of a course load do you have? I teaching 6 out of 7 periods. That is the norm here in MN.

HS Driver's Ed/Social Studies in Illinois
2 sections of World History 1 Section of World Geography 1 section of Driver's Ed (classroom session only lasts a semester)
After that, I have 4 "open" periods a day (5 after the classroom portion of Driver's Ed is over). These are used for behind-the-wheel sessions with my driver's ed kids. I actually get screwed because, by contract, I am supposed to get 2 prep periods a day but I never do because I have to get all of the driver's ed kids done by the end of the semester. I should get paid an overload, but I don't.

At my current school I was the AD for 5 years and taught 2 periods of weight lifting. This year I was asked to take over the Dean of Student's position for our school - needed a new sheriff - so I didn't teach this past fall, but my day was full of a lot of new stuff. I can tell you, I was ready to hit the field at the end of the day!

tog, I have it real good here. But things are changing. The MHSAA has outlawed "football tech classes" so I'm losing Techs of Sports next semester, perhaps for good.
Also the state legislature, in its infinite wisdom, is raising graduation requirements (again), and that is putting the squeeze on all elective courses.

the Michigan state legislatures must have been talking to the Minnesota Legislature blb. Elective classes are getting harder and harder to come by over here as well. Unless the elective class works towards any state test then its ok!! To make room for more required classes, they have even dropped the state standards for PE in the high schools. You now only have to offer PE up through 8th grade in Minnesota! They advice schools to offer one year of PE at the high school level but it is not required.

Toggle - TV/media classes. We have a live TV bulletin shown to the whole school. We do a weekly news show. We podcast (make commercials for radio), make movies, edit video, do marketing projects, etc. Anything to do with media.
Fun and very closely connected to football software. Plus, I have the pick of the litter to help me film our games!!!!

When I coached, I taught algebra, pre-algebra, general math, and US History. Oh, I was also the AD and bus coordinator for the school, and I provided remediation during my planning, before school, and after practice/school. Also, I served on my school's School Improvement Team, which included chairing various sub-commitees for that team, I conducted staff development, and I worked part-time for the recreation dept. I had a lot of long days.
I'm a school administrator now (past 4 yr.), and I must say that my coaching and AD experiences prepared me more for this position than anything else I did. HCs and ADs have to do many of the same things done by the building principal and asst. principal.

We're on block 8 so here's mine- 84 minute classes
A Day 1- World Geo 3- Civics (2nd hour is used as homeroom- only 24 mins long) 4- Prep 5- World Geo
B Day 1- Prep 2- Homeroom 3- Civics 4- Honors Civics 5- Civics
I like my A day scheduling more than B day, but I can't stand all of my A day classes. B day is more hectic, but I have much better classes.
