What is your opinion on this matter? Should girls be allowed to play football? Please explain your view.

if they can handle the requirements of the position, the team, and the scrutiny then i am for it. In fact, next year our kicker will be one of the top female soccer players in our state so I am ok with it. Plus, Kathy Ireland can always come play on my team!

carfull knighter i will send this girl after you Updated: Feb. 5, 2006, 7:18 PM ET Girl first to win state prep wrestling title over boysAssociated Press ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Michaela Hutchison became the first girl in the nation to win a state high school wrestling title while competing against boys. Hutchison won the final of the 103-pound weight class during Alaska's big school wrestling championships. The Skyview High sophomore entered the state tournament ranked No. 1 in her weight class. Amid chants of "C'mon, Michaela" and "Girl power," Hutchison earned a 1-0 victory Saturday over Colony High School's Aaron Boss. She scored an escape with 16 seconds left to beat Boss for the second time in two weeks. Family and friends mobbed Hutchison as she walked away from the mat with a bloody nose, while the crowd rose in a standing ovation. "They were helping me," Hutchison told the Anchorage Daily News. She finished the season with a 45-4 record that included 33 pins, one shy of the state single-season record. Hutchison is the third in her family of 10 children to win a state title, joining brothers Zeb and Eli. sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=2320537

We actually have 3 girls in our middle school who would be the BEST JH football players in their grades. 2 made kids cry at a game 2 years ago in a pick up game (they were in 5th grade and he was a 7th grader). Also a 5th grader this year who has had 2 brothers go through my program and earn all state honors. She has told me since 3rd grade she wants to play LB.

I am a die hard lib, I vote Dem no mater what, but I am tired of this touchy feely correctness, girls don´t belong on the field period! Its bad enough with Augusta crap. One day soon some clown is going to allow a woman to play and she is gonna get pegged and crippled...guys you been long enough in the game and you know the shots and when they take her out and the Darrel Stingley (bless his heart) thing happens all over again the game will be reduced yet another way. Saftey first but you gotta play the game the way it is suppose to be played. Not exceptions because of your gender! Hey why not a dude as Miss America then! As for young girls they mature early...survival of the species thing, they had to have children early before a cave bear et em! But in College and Pro...give me a break! Get real, get in touch with your Fem side move to San Francisco... but by all that is sacred get intellegent! Ms Wie may be able to crack a ball 300 yrds. Some woman can lift 3oo pounds... some run a 4.4 but who can survive 275 at 4.32 ala Feeny (spelling wrong) blind side and get up and still make coffee? Call me a Pig , thats OK, call me liar and I´ll take you out behind a wood shed and when I am done with you you´ll call me Sir. I hope this really helps! CRL

i would add one requirement to her playing as well. she could not date a player on the team regardless of what grade nor could any boy on the football team ask her out. it would be a mess if a girl and a boy dated and they were on the same team.

ok folks.... football is a game, war is real. Lets not confuse the two.
My thought is if they can hack the mental and emotional abuse they will take AND still play the game at a high level, then someone's ego needs to be put in check. Arent we looking for that athlete that gives us an edge? or are we just hypocrites?

I'm all for it. While I have never coached a girl in football - I wouldn't be opposed. I have certainly coached a lot of boys that play like girls, though.
I knew a coach who had a girl play for him (saw her play a few times, too) at a 3A school. She played MLB, guard, and fullback. He said she was one of his more effective / better players.
I honestly don't believe a girl understands football though. You really have to be a little 'off' in the head to really get into this sport. It's not for everyone, and there is it's appeal for most boys.

wrestling is different because they put you in a class for your weight. this aint pop warner...there are no weight classes. if a girl can handle it let yer play. i havent seen one close to it yet personally. i dont see why they shouldnt kick. they're not gonna have a top leg but they might have a better leg than any boy you have. i agree with the kathy ireland comment too. i wouldnt be able to get a play off if she was on my team. the sad thing is i wouldnt even care...lol

if they can handle it fine. coach them like you would anyone else. if you're a hard a$$ normally then show her the same thing. i think brophy's comments make a little sense about most girls understanding of the game, but then again, my wife can run the triple option, so.... just coach 'em up. kids are kids. coach 'em where they're at.

Only on an all girls team imo, and playing other all girls teams! But if girls want womens football, sure go for it! They have equal representation in every other sport, including boxing, so why not football! But you don't see mohammed ali's daughter boxing against the men in her weght class, only other women. I dont believe in mixing the sex's when it comes to any sport where physical power is a big part of it, way more negatives than positive things usually come of it! As usual this is just my humble opinion and with this info and $1.00 you can buy a beer!

I used to belong to a fitness center.. nice place.. huge indoor gym and there was always basketball games going on.. one day a bunch of us were playing and all of a sudden all these hot girls came in from the local high school.. they were having a cheerleader tryout there.. not sure why there.. but still.. from the moment they walked in.. I do not think more than 2 points were scored... Girls just make guys act stupid.. not sure if its shyness or just hormones.. but it will mess them up..

As a parent, I wouldn't tolerate it, however as a coach, you have to except it b/c if you don't you could be making trouble for yourself... discrimination...
In 2003 and 2004, we had a girl play in both of those seasons. I felt uncomfortable but after a while you get use to it.... They where out there for all the right reasons...

I have coached and coached against a total of 6 girls in my coaching career thus far. As for my 4 girls, they were all very good players...they knew they had to work harder then the guys and they did.
In 2002 when I was coaching junior football we had girls as 2 of our 3 starting LBs, one was 2nd on the team in tackles, and the other had 2 INTs in 5 games. And for those of you who think swedish football isnt that high level, our starting DE is now the starting NT at Stanford (Gustav Rystedt).
I am in the position that I really cant turn down any players, but as long as they work hard there is no difference. The girls are the ones who are making extra sacrifices I think, not the guys. They are the ones who come down early or leave late, the ones who change in the womens bathroom or wear pads that dont really fit them. And they do this without complaining...if that doesnt say something about their character I dont know what does.

I am all for girls playing if they can contribute to the same level as expected of the boys.

What's the big deal with girls playing? If they can handle it, why not? Saying "absolutely not" automatically is a bunch of crap IMO.
