I have been posting and reading on here for a little over a year now. You guys are great and so many of you know so much about the game. I was just wondering what kind of records your teams had this season and in the past. So if you want to post how your teams have finished the past few years. As for me, I have been at the same school all 6 years of my career, coaching the OL. Here is how we have done
2001 7-4 (no playoffs) 2002 12-2 Lost in 3rd rd to eventual state champ on hail mary with 1:39 to go. 2003 9-4 Lost in 2nd rd 2004 11-3 Lost in 3rd rd 2005 8-5 Lost in 2nd rd 2006 10-4 Lost in 3rd rd, blew a 16 pt lead in the 4th qtr with 3 turnovers and a giving up a kick off return for a TD

The last 7 years I've been working with 7th/8th grade level kids. The first few years were rough, partly lack of talent and participation and equally to blame was a lack of adaptability to this level of coaching on my part. Our record and competativenss has improved each year and I think in part its a reflection on our coaching staff improving each year.
7 years (54-24) 5-5 6-4 8-4 7-5 10-2 (lost by 1 & 4 pts) 10-1 (lost by 12pts in championship game) 8-3 (lost early in the year by 1,2 & 6 pts to 3 playoff teams) The reason I mention the margins isn't sour grapes, its because we were in every game with a chance to win it, this is an important mindset that we've worked hard to instill on kids, that we expect to win. At this age, confidence is fragile, self and team confidence is something we really work hard on.

2000 - 12-1 - 12-0 going into the semis - team we played held the ball for 40 of the 48 minutes we played!!! 2001 - 9-3 - Heart break - leading 27-7 with 10 minutes to play in the second round of the playoffs - Lose 28-27 on a last second TD. 2002 - 12-1 - Same scenario as 2000 - 12-0 into the semis. Starting to wonder about our playoff mentality. 2003 - 10-1 - 10-0 unbelievably going into the playoffs. Lose on a double pass with under a minute left. 2004 - 9-4 - 6-3 after the regular season. Change QB for the playoffs. Ride his emotion to the championship game and lose 50-45 to a team that had 6 Division 1 players on it. 2005 - 12-1 - FINALLY get the job done. Lose in week 9 and then steamroll through the playoff scoring 41 points per game and only allowing 8 on D in the 4 playoff games. 2006 - 7-4 - Worst defense in school history. 7-4, in our world, is like going 2-8.

Since I have been here we have been: 9-2 lost qr. final (could not avenge regular season OT loss in playoffs) 8-3 lost qr. final (started 2-2, finished strong) 10-1 lost qr.-final (very disappointing end, felt we were the best- played/coached poorly in last game) 7-4 lost qr. final (very low numbers that year... worst team I've had since "the early years". Only had 2 seniors on roster) 11-1 lost semi-final (we were good... found someone better) 8-2 lost 2nd rd. (34-35; proud of team- a lot of injuries) 9-2 lost qr. final (thrilled to go as far as we did)

2001: 9-1/lost in 1st round 2002: 7-4/lost in 2nd round 2003: 10-1/lost in 2nd round 2004: 10-2/lost in quarterfinals 2005: 1-8/DNQ 2006: 5-5/lost in 1st round
We had a nice run between 2001 and 2004, but the wheels came off in 2005. We probably underachieved this past year, as well. Head coach resigned a few weeks ago.

The past 6 seasons I've been coaching our freshman team- I took over a freshman program that not only had not had a winning record in a number of years but was not even competitive (35-50 point shellackings were common place)
2001 4-4 2002 5-3 2003 5-4 2004 5-4 2005 9-0 2006 9-0
We have a very unique situation in our district in that our middle schools plays a 2 month season mid Janaury- mid March. All our 6th, 7th and 8th graders play tackle football is they choose and all the coaches are selected by the HC at the high school. They all run our base offense and defense- It is a great program in that we get to work with many of our kids for several seasons before they enter high school. I've coached the 8th grade team at one of our middle schools for years- currently they are on a 14 game winning streak (vs. the other middle school in the district).

1A school in Iowa
2002: 8-2 2003: 10-1, lost 1st round of playoffs on a Wednesday to the same team we beat 13-12 the Friday before - tough pairing. 2004: 7-2 2005: 5-4 2006: 7-2, won our last 5 giving us great momentum for a 2007 season that, on paper, has the makings of a very memorable experience for all involved. Can't wait!
