That's basically the reason I wear a hat: something to throw. About once a year is all I need. once a year? yall must be good i would have thrown my shoulder out if i still had a clipboard Oh I figure if once doesn't do it, twice won't. I never give up on the "That was OK but we can play better" rah-rah speech, though. We could win by 50 and I'd give those suckers a "meh, not bad" post game. I'm...not popular with kids

Naw. It's easier to clean off of a clean chin that a beard.
Have to take your word for it, have no personal experience other than observation.
I guess I don't either. Never had a beard.

don't mean to hijack the thread, butit getting to be that time of year when we DO need to talk about the guys that wears shorts when its freezing The first OC I once said that all coaches that wear shorts to a game can get schemed up. He won like 3 or 4 state championships in FL and was finishing up his career with us. Around 35 years coaching all together. I saw a team we were playing wearing shorts. Of course I was in the middle of my powerlifting career at about 285. I was hot all year. I said man we need to wear shorts. He said, "No, you can't wear shorts to a game. Any coach that wears shorts can get schemed up." Now just about any coach that I have coached with will say that or text that to me before a game if the other team is wearing shorts. He was full of stuff like that. Things like "Ned and the first reader." "Katy bar the door." "88 and out the gate." Learned a lot from him. haha. We wear shorts when it's hot and I've never been impressed by guys who think that can beat you by out-scheming you.

One of the sports talking heads said that Ben McAdoo's call sheet was as big as a Denny's menu. It really is... Like I get a laugh at these guys with all these giant play cards. Half those plays won't get touched all year, no point. It's not the size of your play card it's how you use it

I've mentioned this on here a couple of times and there is always someone who gets their shorts in a wad. It's meant to be freaking funny.

I'm...not popular with kids My middle school coach was a "retired" high school coach that had won over 300 games. He made us run right after the game for every point we allowed but we went 18 games an no one scored on us. He still could find something to run us for after the game. He was one hell of a guy.

Never seen an offensive coach with his hat on backwards. Of course most of them are wearing visors. Point is if you see a coach with his hat on backwards, he's a defensive guy. Probably has a beard to cover up the tobacco juice too. Boom. You hit that one out of the park, blb!

I couldn't find my little retractable thing that I hook into my belt loop week 3. I had my timberland boots in the truck so I ran down and took the shoestring out of one of the boots. I tied my play sheet around my belt loop. We won and I'm superstitious. So the rest of the year I have been using that shoestring to tie my play sheet to my belt loop.
I rarely look at it either, but I feel like I have to have it, and I don't want to carry it around all game.

Is a play sheet on a lanyard around your neck acceptable? Asking for a friend.

I don't because I am bald, but our varsity QB coach is the poster child for Facemelter. Visor all of the time, and a Nike long sleeve dri-fit in any weather. Could be 100 degrees, could be 60 degrees. After having some skin cancer cut off me, I've become a big proponent of long sleeves.

I just can't when it's 90 or higher. With the visor though, it really ties together the ensemble that is Facemelter.

Visors were nice in the FL heat until my hairline disappeared like the Snowbirds at the first sign of warm weather. Now, I look like Lebron and his sweatband if I wear a visor.
I wear my hat backwards, something about a brim and stadium lights bugs me. My doppelganger is on our staff, he's 10 years younger than me and wears his backwards as well, just to show how cool he is. My MIL couldnt tell the two if us apart from the stands, she made him turn his hat forward.
I lug my iPad around games now, as we have Hudl Sideline and an endzone camera. I still havent found a comfortable way to hold on to it. It's a game-changer, but really awkward.

Have you seen my profile picture??? I ate that giant slice with one of these: www.thisiswhyimbroke.com/pizza-slicer-fork/ and I own 2 of these: www.stupidiotic.com/product_info.php?products_id=252 HAHAHA!!! But seriously, I've thought about some sort of clip and strap, but its too heavy around the neck or belt. I usually give it to one of my injured OL to hold for me when I get sick of it.

I'm big on dress for success. I'm not talking a suit, but looking sharp means something to me. It's kind of a new thing tho, I didn't care the first 31 years of life.
It's important to dress professionally to be sure.
As the voice of experience - don't sweat your balls off or freeze your azz off for any reason.
You can't coach your best if you're worried about your personal comfort.
Just to point out a counter point- if what you wear is so dang important, why do I continue to see successful HS and college program's HCs basically wearing dri fit long sleeve T-shirts? How does Belichick wear what he does if appearance matter for crap?

Didn't say that how you dress necessarily impacts whether you win or lose.
I think as a professional educator how you represent yourself and your school in public is important. Apparently some coaches you have observed disagree with me. Maybe it's a generational thing. And don't give the haters any more ammunition.
Belichick works for a multi-million dollar corporation. So long as he wins trophies-puts fannies into Gillette Stadium and makes money for Bob Kraft, I'm sure the owner doesn't care what he wears - so long as it's NFL-licensed apparel. So comparing NFL to coaching HS football is not valid (in most respects).

I guess I don't either. Never had a beard. It's easier to wipe off a clean chin than beard. Personal experience. Quit 2 years from next Tuesday though, so now I always rock the beard. I was lucky enough to find one of those new hats that has the bill on the back though. Had to buy it.

This is a thread pretty much for chits and giggles which I'm sure we could all use once in a while with all the work we put in on the stuff that actually matters.
