I saw a coach who had a towel hanging from his pants in a game where there was a dry heat on field turf. Can someone please explain that one to me?? He also had a man bun. I don't know if it gets anymore douche than that! id remove any coach that had a bun.... just saying. You just fired our varsity OL coach. He's a character and then some.

Geez, I guess I am th worst guy in the world, I used to always wear my visor backwards (at least when I was at a school that had visors). I have never found a hat that fits my head right (they make me look like I am 12), but visors fit fine. I turn it backwards because yeah I like how it looks but also cause I hate getting sunburn on my neck. Mix in that and the fact that I like my plays readily available on my waist and I am public enemy #1. I guess my saving grace is being clean shaven and coaching defense. I really liked wearing a wristband this year.... i started doing it mid season because i couldnt remember where i threw my call sheet... one added benefit was when i was pi$$ed i couldnt throw it. Ive done wristband before, but sometimes I like making notes on my call sheet and you can't do that with a wristband. Also, I've coached in a lot of very hot places, and that wristband sweat gets nasty.

I wore shorts last week. It was cool, but I was in the box. I also am wearing them because we're on a winning streak and it makes me feel better.
Our DC and Co OC clip the calls to their pants. Our DC has one hand so it really makes sense for him. If the OC didn't have it attached to him it would likely get chucked across the field.
Last year I called the JV offense and didn't even use a call sheet. No need when you run roughly 7 plays.

Our OC printed off one for every coach on the staff I put mine in my pocket, but I don't call plays. If I did I would probably attach it to something because it's inconvenient to put in the pocket and I would probably throw it.
As for the visor, I wish I would've picked the normal hat. It's extremely comfortable but I feel it looks awkward. So I wear a bucket hat.
I wear shorts and will because I hate pants, until someone makes me put them on I'll be in shorts probably.

Sounds like a pretty legit reason to me. If/when I'm calling from the field I will clip my call sheet to my belt loop as well.

Point is if you see a coach with his hat on backwards, he's a defensive guy. Probably has a beard to cover up the tobacco juice too. Naw. It's easier to clean off of a clean chin that a beard.
Have to take your word for it, have no personal experience other than observation.

Never seen an offensive coach with his hat on backwards. Of course most of them are wearing visors. Point is if you see a coach with his hat on backwards, he's a defensive guy. Probably has a beard to cover up the tobacco juice too. I don't because I am bald, but our varsity QB coach is the poster child for Facemelter. Visor all of the time, and a Nike long sleeve dri-fit in any weather. Could be 100 degrees, could be 60 degrees.

I used to type mine up on a sheet of paper, put it in a sheet protector, and tuck it into the waistband of my pants.
What does that make me?

don't mean to hijack the thread, butit getting to be that time of year when we DO need to talk about the guys that wears shorts when its freezing A couple of years ago, I had to coach an Oct. 31st game in the snow wearing only a pair of khaki shorts and a Nike dri fit t-shirt. That was our coaching uniform and the header was a stickler that we all had to wear the uniform, no matter what. It was 30 degrees and rained all day. The sideline was a pit of soft mud before kickoff. Then there was about 2" of snow on the field before it was over. We were down by 42 at halftime. I don't miss coaching there.

I've noticed it's hard for me to look good when it's this damn cold. I'm normally a polo and slacks guy but damn, when it's rainy and 45 I'm like 2 sweatshirts and a jacket with some rain pants, khakis and tights.

You reach an age when you're not trying to impress anybody by "looking good" and dress for comfort.

The people that scare me are the plain dressed coaches who kick the living shite out of your teams year after year. It's like the secret service or FBI agent. Think of Steve Jobs. Black turtle neck. Jeans. Ass kicker. Plain looking assassin football coaches. #deadly

that age for me was 18 I'm big on dress for success. I'm not talking a suit, but looking sharp means something to me. It's kind of a new thing tho, I didn't care the first 31 years of life.

It's important to dress professionally to be sure.
As the voice of experience - don't sweat your balls off or freeze your azz off for any reason.
You can't coach your best if you're worried about your personal comfort.

The person on the right in my avatar is my wife (with our grandson).
I'm pretty sure people have assumed for some time I'm a "success" regardless of how I dressed.
And she's probably been as big a factor in me getting some jobs as my interview, resume, or wardrobe.
They might have been fifty-fifty on me, but definitely wanted her in the community!
(She's as beautiful a person as she is on the outside).

don't mean to hijack the thread, butit getting to be that time of year when we DO need to talk about the guys that wears shorts when its freezing The first OC I once said that all coaches that wear shorts to a game can get schemed up. He won like 3 or 4 state championships in FL and was finishing up his career with us. Around 35 years coaching all together. I saw a team we were playing wearing shorts. Of course I was in the middle of my powerlifting career at about 285. I was hot all year. I said man we need to wear shorts. He said, "No, you can't wear shorts to a game. Any coach that wears shorts can get schemed up." Now just about any coach that I have coached with will say that or text that to me before a game if the other team is wearing shorts. He was full of stuff like that. Things like "Ned and the first reader." "Katy bar the door." "88 and out the gate." Learned a lot from him. haha.
