I think that is the problem. Once the parents and kids believe you don't know what you are doing and fully believe what they want (and what is being told to them by the recruiting service guy) you can't disprove anything because you are not trusted. I think that is the sticky situation here. You need a 3rd party to say "I know you want to believe what this guy is saying, but it simply isn't true) Unfortunately, I have seen most parents and kids walk into a program not believing that the staff knows what they're doing. At least this has been my experience... This really highlights one of the major issues in coaching know: we're fighting against commercialism. It's easy for a "recruiting service" to put up a flashy website, show how they've gotten a couple of kids to the "next level", and get parents and kids suckered into their crap and take their money. I don't know that it's a fight we can win and maybe these parents and kids need to learn their lessons the hard way. We can send film out, advocate for the kids in a realistic manner and let the chips fall as they will. They can spend their money trying to get the kid into an FBS school while we set them up with a more realistic offer from a smaller school. But, it's been pretty rare for a kid who has aspirations of playing at the college level to thank us or feel as if we "did enough for them". Coach..I am talking about this specific case here. Where the recruiting service guy (according to the original poster) has said that he was eating with Jimbo Fisher and Fisher said that the kid was a "must get".

Had a Parent tell me "I have paid for this recruiting service so you don't need to let college coaches know about him" My jaw about hit the ground because what she didn't know was she was helping me out. He was going D1 is what she told me.. Kid ended up going about 500 miles away to a D3 school that he didn't last 2 weeks at..
We are fortunate to have guys on staff that played at every level. Brief stint in the NFL/Major D1 and won a National Championship,D2,D3. HBCU.
As we tell our kids... "Don't get caught up in Dinner table aspirations, we want to see you succeed more then anyone but were also honest and realistic"
