We had this discussion amongst our staff the other day via text, since we were all snowed in.
After a game, when you're shaking hands with the opposing coaches, what do you say, if anything?
Do you just go a standard "good game"? Good luck next week? Great team/group?
Something completely different?
For me, I always try to make it a point to wish them luck for their next game, and if it's the end of their season to wish them a good off season. I'll always try to make sure I say something to their top player or two (Heck of a game ##, way to be a leader). And if they're playing a team we have played or will play, I always try to specifically tell them I hope they beat them.
Does it even matter what we say after a game, aside from something really violent or vulgar?

i always say the standard "good game, good luck next week"
if it is a coach i know a little bit personally they get a "bro hug"
i actually don't care much for taking to the other coaches
i go talk to the players on the other team after the handshake line... if we went against a specific defender (or 2) who i felt were really good, i will go give them a handshake and tell them how impressive they were

Usually just "good game."
But, there are plenty of times I will find them after our team huddle breaks and then talk a little more. Or text them after the game.

I say a simple "good game" to both players and coaches going through the line. I may add a "Hey, make sure you get a win next week!" if they are playing a team I sincerely want them to beat. Nothing more than that, though.

Not a lot to the opposing coaches other than good game, but I do look for certain players on the other team to tell them if I like the way they play.

I also speak more to players than coaches. I know all other HC's in our area pretty well. For whatever reason, not much is said after other than good game. But we will text/talk on phone the next couple days at length.

Had a DC come up to me after a game and say, "Hey coach, I wish I could get you to teach my kids to hold as well as you do your kids."
The response I gave him is not appropriate for this site.

Holding is illegal. I would never teach my OL to do something illegal.

I just usually say good luck, although I have talked longer after games to some coaches.

"Good luck rest of the season." Might tell a kid if he played like a stud, "Helluva game, #." That only happens two or three times a year though. I'm more concerned about getting back to my team after a game so if I'm coaching against a buddy, we'll meet up afterward at a bar or restaurant. I've coached against guys who feel the need to congratulate us, wish us luck, compliment us, shake our hands, shake our kids' hands, one even asked to speak to our kids ... In the words of a very wise woman, "Ain't nobody got time for that!"

More often than not, good game or good luck, something like that.
If they've got a stud, I'll go out of my way to find them and tell them "you're a hell of a player"
There are a select few staffs that might get something different, but I usually try to dress it up somehow in lieu of "How 'bout that scoreboard you ****ing crybaby, bush-league MFer"

If we won: Good game coach. Your boys played hard and you have a great program.
If we lost: Meet me at the TGI Friday's parking lot!!!

I always saying the following: "Good luck and stay healthy this season"
There is one coach in our league that only says " May God Bless you". I call him the God Bless You Guy. I am not particularly religious but I found that to be very annoying after getting pounded by them 3 yrs in a row. Felt like pity.
2 Times I have not gone with the standard post game greeting:
1. Wing T guy who always runs X over Waggle and throws to the covered TE. Runs it every year and every year I complain to the refs, they miss it, and then I tell him how bush league he is.
2. Single Wing Guy who runs Sweep, Wheels wing and blocks CB with WR. Two TDs and refs won't call it. Another Bush league play. Claimed it was an RPO. Right buddy.

It's a little different for us I suppose. We exchange the usual good games and all that, but since we're middle school and not everybody trades film, we try to get a quick scouting report on the next team we will play, just base o, base d, studs, etc; this is assuming we didn't do this pre-game.

"Tell your wife to leave the back door unlocked. I'll be over around 10:00." I said something similar to a ref once.

Usually just "Good game, good luck rest of the season!"
If the game got out of hand, sometimes I'd add "Your kids didn't quit, they played hard!"

If you can't better to say nothing at all.
We are the stewards of a game that demands Sportsmanship.
Even if the other guy was a you-know-what.

Never had harsh words after a game. If we win, great. If not, not so good but it just means that the other guy did his job better than I did.
