Hey guys! I am new here. 19 years old, from Kentucky and as you can tell from my username I plan on being a future coach! I am a college student going into teaching, my first love which will help me achieve my dream of coaching football. I love football as much as I love to breathe.
I do have playing experience, I was an A-back on a flexbone team in high school. I am a fast learner and when I have free time I am usually reading articles on numerous websites about X's and O's. I joined this website honestly to learn more about the X's and O's and to get advice from you guys who all seem to be helpful and educated on this wonderful sport.
I believe I have the qualities to become a good coach. To me being a coach gives me the opportunity to reach and mold a large number of kids because of my position similar to the way a counselor can. I love the game and I still talk to the players at my alma mater and I believe I have been told I am sort of a mentor to them, and I have even put some of them through workouts during the summer.
I only have one problem though, I want to get back into the game somehow. I went to watch my alma mater practice the first week of the season and the smell of the grass just cancelled all patience I have. I don't care if I coach middle school, high school, or little junior league kids I want to be involved in the game somehow and right now the way my schedule at work and school is set up I surprisingly have every weekday evening off. I know it's too late to start this season but for next season is there any suggestion you all have for me trying to get involved? .
Looking forward to talking with you guys and bugging you all with my questions!

Hello everyone. I am new to here and I guess I'm supposed to give a little rundown about myself. I played football in high school and 1 year in college. I played NG and I absolutely love defense. I am currently coaching at a small school in Oklahoma that plays 8 man ball. Man was that a trip making the switch. LOL. I was hired as the DLine coach but now I have to coach OLine as well. On offense we run Splitbacks Veer and on defense we run a 3-2. I'm always open to some chalk talk so feel free to send me a PM.

I am a youth football coach (11-12 year olds) in Northern California. My only experience is HS football. I am the DC this year and we run a base 5-3 defense with some different looks of a 6-2 now and then. Our defense has been great at times but, we face one team who runs a Wing-T like offense - I've never seen it before. Generally they have double Tight Ends and run one wing back while the other two are lined up in what appears a pro set. The QB will be in Shotgun between them sometimes, too. A whole lot of misdirection with the QB bootlegs now and then. They when we crowd the line of scrimmage they will slip a TE out along with a wing back. I feel they have us so spread out it is hard to contain and when we contain our middle is attacked. Blitzing seems to be a bad idea as we have gotten badly burned by a weaker DT or NG now and then. Any advice?

Hey All;
Happy to be here. A little about myself, I played high school (obviously) where I was part of a New York State Championship team, was 1st team All-NYS my senior year (not that I care about indiviudal honors, but I am proud of it) played college ball at the DIII level, and followed that up by playing semi-pro ball, which I'm still playing. I played OL/DL in HS, Guard in College and Guard/Center in Semi-Pro. I currently coach the DL and am the co-Defensive Coordinator at the high school in which I coach.
I coached for five years at my high school alma mater, but have recently taken a job at a rival high school. This school has been at the bottom of our section for years. Myself and the other coaches (we have a brand new staff) are looking to turn things around. We narrowly lost to a perennial league power in Week 1, in a game which we actually led in the 4th quarter, beat a perrenial league power in Week 2, lost a close game to a top team in Week 3, beat teams we should in Weeks 4 and 5, however we just got stomped in a non-league game in Week 6. Hopefully we can recover. Look forward to chatting with you all!

I am the sports reporter at Premium News Network. I love football and I study it in depth. I am considering working in football as a career. I am studying the Air Raid from a knowledgable coach and I fully believe in passing the ball. I have never played football before though. That is basically it.

Hi all, been lurking for a little while now. Play in a social club (lb in a 43 over D). Played and now coaching the U20s. Mostly the DC but also O line and every D position coach, we run with just me and the HC. Running a 9 man game, but looking into getting more experience and helping more with the seniors.

I've been on this website for about 4 months, but never bothered to introduce myself until now. Don't know why.
I'm pretty green when it comes to coaching, having just finished my first year. I coach at a little town in central Missouri, not far from Columbia. I try to model a lot of my coaching style after Gary Pinkel, because of bias and the fact that he gets so much respect out of his players, and routinely does more with less. I try to use energy, focus, and eagerness to learn to make up for my youth.
I coach at the middle school and I help do a few things at the high school, because of my loyalty to my high school coach. He's a young guy like me (early 30's), and worked his tail off to get a head coaching job in a short amount of time, and he's been successful. I coach OL/DL, which are the positions I played. I played in a double wing offense from 7th-11th grade, and my senior year, the current coach came my senior year and we ran the 3-4 WR pistol. I love coaching for my alma mater!

Coaches, excited to have found this site and wanted to introduce myself.
I currently just ended my 7th year of coaching. I spent two years as a Freshman OC and varsity quarterbacks coach. I was then offered an Varsity OC at a brand new school. Spent three years there. It was the perfect situation as it allowed me to get my feet wet and learn a lot. I was then offered an assistant head / varsity OC job at a nearby school. The school was playing two classifications up and had been pretty bad the years before. Was told it would be a true challenge but we worked very hard and got it turned around in two years.
I have worked with some great coaches who have taught me a lot. I would not be where I am with out them. They showed me how to build programs from the ground up. I am lucky to have been around and apart of these great opportunities. I always coach with the philosophy that you can always learn more and be a better coach. In addition, we work hard as a coaching staff and have come to believe that there is always more work to be done therefore I look for that work. I love helping my players and coaches where ever they need help at.
I look forward to chatting with you all and learning from you all.

5th year coach. Started at 7th/8th level my first year and then moved to JV DC/ Varsity assistant. I'm a defensive guy through and through. Have been in both a 4-3 cover 2 and a 4-4 cover 3/1 defense. Just on here to pick a few brains, and to become a more rounded coach. I feel I do a great job teaching our defense and what WE do, but would like to have a better idea of exactly what offenses are doing to help with game planning, adjustments, etc. I'm also a fresh grad, so may be looking for other opportunities.

Just finished my 5th year of coaching. I've coached 8 man and 11 man, I've been OL/DL line coach, Offensive line coach. I work in a coaching staff of 4( OC,DC,HC and me). I'm on here to get a better grasp of X's and O's. My strength has always been with the players and getting them to play harder. I coach at the same school i played at and actually have coached since the season after i graduated( i dont recommend that). Besides X's and O's i would like to learn how to do the basics better, from watching film to what to look for in practice. I've coached with a lot of younger guys who haven't lasted a full season because they think they know everything and i am very aware of what i don't know. I am excited to find a forum like this to help me learn in the off season.

I just completed my first year of coaching at a smaller school in Iowa. I had multiple roles, including QB/RB coach, secondary coach and JV offensive coordinator. Offensively, we ran a flexbone offense from under center this season. Defensively we were a base 4-4 cover 3 team. We had a dominating run defense but struggled defending the pass against spread offenses. That is the main area of emphasis on improving for next season, as well as possibly transitioning to running the flexbone from the pistol to fit the personnel we will be returning.

Coach of 10 years. Last 2 at my alma mater in rural Indiana. We have approximately 45 kids in the program and have ran the Flexbone/Triple both years. I am looking to implement some of the same principles but out of the pistol in order to take advantage of several taller WRs (lack of true A Backs).

We are in the same boat, running the flexbone with few true A Backs next year and looking to possibly make the change to the pistol. One of the first things that comes to mind is the possibility of timing issues due to the depth of the A and B backs being pushed back a couple yards. Is there anything you have thought of that may be an issue? We will probably need to involve the QB more in the running game. If we do make the change to the pistol, I would like to also look at installing a couple of RPO's to take advantage of that formation.

Hello all. I'm new here, but have read through some threads in the past.
I've been coaching the past three years in Shanghai, China. I was the head coach for the U15 team with the China Sea Dragons and had a great experience. Being in China, you end up coaching all positions and the whole team at the same time. We ran a no huddle spread on offense and a 4-4 stack on defense.
I'm moving back to the States (Southern California) in about a month and looking forward to helping out at some level of coaching (youth or HS). I will probably end up emailing a few coaches in the area to see if any help is needed.

Hi guys,
Just joined up in order to help grow my knowledge and hopefully contribute something myself to the board.
I'm a British coach who started playing when I was 16. At 20 I suffered a concussion which led to post concussion syndrome and epilepsy, therefore I stopped playing and decided to take up coaching to avoid any similar injuries. I played defensive back in the British Premier Diviosn and therefore decided to coach at that position. I am now defensive backs coach for the team I played for.
Since then I've also begun working for a joint Anglo-American sports development company which is run by two British businessmen and former two time Super Bowl champion and one time Pro Bowler Byron Chamberlain. I have coached on their behalf and am now their Business Debelopment Officer, working on building up projects behind the scenes; I am currently working on building their Cheer programme to run alongside the Football.
I had the huge pleasure of sitting in for a week at a High School just outside San Francisco last year which helped expand my knowledge a vast amount. I attended and contributed to their training sessions before being invited down to the sideline to shadow their HC during the game. I hope to do something similar again in the near future.
Looking forward to contributing and learning from you all!
