It is, and it's a great point. I think it's all in the tone you deliver it in. It's funny and I'm aware that there may be a back story- a kid who quit the team or one who dog the team after a loss- but overall it's not a great idea or accurate. Don't we tell the players that they represent the school? That makes it "We". As an aspiring head coach, I'm a big "football builds a cohesive and united school community" guy. I'd have a real hard time going and pushing that, and then turning around telling kids in the school "community" not to say "we". It just goes against everything I stand for philosophically. I don't know if the comment was made in a serious context or not, but generally comments like that isolate kids, not unite them.

Fans are idiots. But I am a fan and just as guilty. I bet everyone of us has criticized a college or pro coach. I bet we all have said, "that was stupid" during a play in the Super Bowl. If it wasn't for the idiot fans, there would be no pro football, no college football, and no high school football.
Some of the fans that say "we", actually went to that school are even better are writing $1000 or more checks every month to that school. In some way, they are part of the "we". Good head coaches want everyone to be part of the "we".
In our state, coaches get to go to a huge hospitality coaches section during state championship games. Free food, great seats, in ac box, etc. Every coach up there is still coaching and criticizing the teams out there. The coach who just went 2-8 is saying that something that two 14-0 coaches are doing is wrong or stupid.
It is just human nature. We as coaches probably recognize that we are just commenting more than criticizing, but still we all do it. I tell my parents every year that I will make some calls that after the play I even thought were stupid. LOL. No team ever plays perfectly. There is always room for improvement.
Now the guy that didn't go to that school and has no real affiliation that just complains about everything is the true idiot that we are probably talking about. The guy that says throw it when they run it and run it when they throw it.

Absolutely love this place and have changed so much in the almost 10 years I've been on. Have developed so many relationships with guys off of the site it is amazing. Got to work the Fresno Darin Slack QB Academy with dsqa letting me tag along, fbdoc showed my wife and I around south Florida while we were on our honeymoon, as well as casec11 and his wife having lunch with us while we were down there. Getting to fly vassdiddy , mariner42 , jgordon1 , and a few others out here to UT to speak at my clinic and have an awesome weekend together, learning how to actually play a 4-3 defense from guys like brophy , outlawjoseywales , @duece , and a few others, as well as getting to meet fasterthanthefly at a clinic last year, and especially doing Jagr-Bombs every time an LSU tiger gets drafted with rsmith627 last year (and hopefully this year). I am sure I have missed a few guys and I really am sorry if I have, but so many great guys on the site and I look forward to meeting up with even more this weekend in KY at the AFCA convention. Every time I speak at a clinic or meet a coach who has questions, this is the first place I send them. Thanks to everyone for all the help you have given me.

Ha ha, was watching the Alabama-OSU game with a bunch of other coaches and we start criticizing a few things. One of the other coaches says something to the effect of "if only Urban Meyer and Nick Saban knew as much as we do." The nice thing about having that conversation with a group of coaches was that it hit all of us immediately how absurd it was for us to criticize either of those staffs. In the "fan crowd" I haven't seen the ability for many to come to the same type of realization.

Proud member since 2006.
I'm not sure that I thought this site would last as long as it has, as I was new to forum's and such. How glad I am to have been blessed with such a resource.
Things that I have always admired:
1) The humor. There are some funny a$$ dudes on this site. I'll have a crappy day, get on this site, and almost always go away with something to chuckle about.
2) The character of the people here. It is safe to say that we "police our own." When someone strays into the negative or WTF realm, there is a collective "get your sh1t together or go troll somewhere else" type of rebuke. That is due to the men who moderated the site from the early days and established an environment of healthy support.
3) Keeping it "100" (as the kids say). You gotta come correct or you will be called out, quickly. If you post wanting a pity party, there is a more estrogen based site out there somewhere for that. If you post after a few beers and your liquid courage gets the best of you, you will surely be exposed as a knucklehead. Just keep it real, act like a man, and get what you need.
4) Humility. There are many accomplished men on this site. With that, there are also many ego's that know how to behave in order to preserve the integrity of the site. I've noticed that if you come across as the next "heir apparent"/"A-11 I'm here to change the game" type dude, distant cousin of Vince Lombardi, or major chest beater you will be discounted quicker than my wife spends my stipend check.
5) You usually get what you're looking for. If you come on here looking for a fight...you'll get one. If you come on looking for a laugh...you won't look far. If you come on looking for insight...it will eventually arrive. If you come on looking for someone to stroke your nuts...dial a 1-900 number. However, if you truly come here with the intent to help and be helped...there couldn't be a better place.
Thank you all for 10 great years.

If a kid or person goes or went to the school then I completely understand the "WE" mentality. Even in the NFL, if you're from Cincinnati or know someone on the team, then I can accept "WE" but just like all the non-athletes who are now super fitness/crossfit/weight lifting experts at the gym as adults...how about you just STFU and do what you do without being obnoxious about it. Being from Ohio, I like the Buckeyes (per state law) it's Buckeye Nation that I hate. I almost got in a fight about 2 years ago with a teacher at school. HE went to a D3 school but was a buckeye fan, a lady went to Miami of Ohio and of course OSU was playing Miami...he was talking chit going in to that saturday, of course OSU won and Monday he was so obnoxious talking chit I just couldn't take it anymore I had to say something. If you went to the school then fine, I get it. If you didn't... I phuking hate buckeye nation. Most obnoxious a$$hats in the country. Hear this all the time on Mondays. Fans bragging about their team winning and bashing fans of the other team like somehow they are the better person, fan, or have more football knowledge than them....so what did you do to help them win? Sit on your coach drinking a beer with crumbs all over you? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using proboards

Haven't been on this site for ten years, but I've definitely received the knowledge of ten years worth of clinics and campus visits from it. I look forward to the first few hours at work where I can be one of the guys who likes to talk ball. Things covered here in these forums are true COACH things. The how and why behind the superficial things we all know is fodder for sports fans to spew back at us.
It's hard finding people who understand the drive it takes to excel at this "game you don't get paid enough to work for". I'm glad I've found a community that's just as, if not more, crazy than I am.
