Was brought to this site in 2005 by the coach of my Swiss football team as I was about to start my own coaching career. Such a great site and very thankful to everyone here for sharing their knowledge. Thanks Spitznagel

It's the only site I disable my adblocker for lol

This site has been a tremendous resource for me, not only for the info on here, but for the coaches you get to meet and see how they are doing things.
Just curious CoachHuey, how successful did you think this site would be, and what is the story about the sites start up?

Lol! This thread made me look up my profile to see when I joined this site. Date Registered: Oct 19, 2006 at 2:41pm.
Like Mahonz, I'm a youth coach. I started coaching youth football in 2005. So, I'm about journeyman level, I guess. This site has been a wealth of information for me. It really is a gold mine.
Thanks, Huey!

The sharing of knowledge on this site has had a profound impact on football coaching development and innovation.
This is especially true for those of us who live outside the USA where football resources and mentors are at a premium.
Thank you to Coach Huey and all who contribute to this community.

This thread also made me look up my profile and it appears that I joined this site in March 2006. That was one of the best moves I have ever made as a coach. The people on this board are some of the best people on this planet for all that they do and give to not only their fellow coaches but to the young men that we are blessed with as a part of our lives!
Thank You Coach Huey for this great place!

I am very thankful that I found Coach Huey's site last year. I thought I knew a lot about football, but as I explored the topics, I realized how much I needed to learn. Thanks for the self-confidence boost!

I think I heard about this site while reading some article about the A-11 and how it was going to revolutionize football! So I guess in its own special little way the A-11 is the best thing that ever happened to me as a coach!
Thanks for everything you do to all of the moderators and all of the patient contributors to this site!

I don't know how I found the site. I feel like it was probably in a Google search. I also don't know why I joined at 6:45 am.
I owe a lot to it though. I have learned a ton from the plethora of amazing coaches on here who are graciously willing to share their knowledge, and it even is responsible for me living in the great place I am in right now. I'm from Michigan, but was teaching/coaching in North Carolina at the time and absolutely hated it. CQMiller posted that he was looking for coaches, and while he was never able to get me into the building to coach with him, it got me researching Utah and I learned what a great place to live it can be.

I haven't been around for as long as a lot of you and don't post a whole lot, but I've definitely learned a lot from the site. It always provides great entertainment value!

How many have had this awkward exchange?
Wife: What are you doing in there? Me: I'm on Coach Huey.
Let it sink in. I'll be here all week.

I have also learned a lot from the coaching wisdom on this site. The knowledge on this site is staggering, but I also have been directed to some other fantastic resources because of this site. I definitely feel that I have gained far more than I have contributed.

(went to the Sugar Bowl...nice reminder of why I don't go to games and sit with fans #idiots) This! So much this! As a rep coach who coaches kids from most of the area high schools I try to get out to their games to watch the kids play in the fall. I have to sit/stand with parents/fans. So excruciating! Recently I was at a friend's house who had a group over to watch bowl games. I usually keep my mouth shut because I recognize I'm around people who are 'fans' of the game and not an analyzer of the game but did pipe in to stop some absurdity only to be told I know nothing about football by a guy who thinks cover 2 is a double coverage on a receiver. I wanted to ask him what cover 6 was then lmao

Funny you mention fans. A bunch of my friends, mixed in with some people I barely know, have a sports talk facebook group where people post fan stuff and a lot of the discussions turn in to huge arguments. The stupidity that is posted is mind boggling. It drives me absolutely crazy.

The stupidity that is posted is mind boggling. It drives me absolutely crazy. Got into a heated argument with a friend over stuff like that. I told them that I didn't respect their opinion when it came to the technical aspect of the game because they have zero experience in it. They're entitled to believe whatever they believe but when someone with experience or clout in the field comes along, it's time to defer. We were arguing over whether or not Vic Fangio ran a sound defensive scheme. I'm a DC! You've never coached, personnel scouted, or even played the game! People are ridiculous.

I don't think I can say anything that anyone else hasn't said about how great this site is. It's amazing the advise and direction you can get on this site. I have learned a great deal. Better than a clinic you can get deeper feedback and explanation when needed. The ability to question and requestion is amazing.
Another major benefit I have found is the unbiased advice. Typically, if I have an issue and I go to my friends or fellow staff members, they will all be in agreement with me or at least sympathize with my point of view. On here coaches don't know me so they can look at and advise based on their experiences, which are unrelated and unbiased to mine. It's hard to get a clear point of view in the real world, but over this forum it is very easy. This has been priceless in my decision making.
Thanks Huey and all the many contributors!!!

In the words of Lou Holtz on TV with Mark May and Chris Fowler (I think) when an argument started over his opinion on a certain game and they argued with him "I don't know why I'm arguing with a has been and never was." Another funny Holtz moment. vine.co/v/OhMv1aMBA2i

The stupidity that is posted is mind boggling. It drives me absolutely crazy. I was on the road over Christmas and had to watch the last two Packers games at sports bars, which I hate. I like sports bars if I'm just casually watching a game but when the Packers are on I don't want to argue with dumba$$es. At one point GB had a 4th and goal at the one with a 10-3 lead and went for it. The guy next to me went nuts calling Mike McCarthy a moron because "You always take the points". I would have preferred to kick it and go up by two scores but I also knew that there were very good arguments for going for it so you could go either way. I explained that but the guy was adamant. Oh well, I had the Packers on TV and a plate of ribs and a craft brew in front of me so who needs an argument? But I won't be watching the playoffs in a bar.

My biggest pet peeve ever....fans who say "WE". Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using proboards AMEN!!!! You did not practice for months, play the game, get cussed out by coaches, put in hours of film, poor blood, sweat and tears, etc. You did nothing but watch. This is going on with Michigan fans right now. "Bruh...us gotses harbaugh. We's gonnas be goods" Umm...you couldn't get into U of M if your life depended on it. You couldn't walk onto the football team either. There is no "we".

When I was in high school our DC was our biology teacher as well. When a student asked him "Are WE going to win tonight?" He said, "I don't know who you are playing, but the football team's going to win."

Kids want to be a part of a winning program, even if they aren't literally a part of it. I can see both sides of this one.

High school and college I have no problem with students, faculty, parents, alumni, and even big fans who just live in the town saying "WE", but when you have two numb skulls arguing over who the better pro team is and they're throwing "we" out there like they're on the sideline every week it's laughable.

I just thought it was funny. It is, and it's a great point. I think it's all in the tone you deliver it in. It's funny and I'm aware that there may be a back story- a kid who quit the team or one who dog the team after a loss- but overall it's not a great idea or accurate. Don't we tell the players that they represent the school? That makes it "We".
