On this subject but off just a little bit:
Does anyone else have friends or family that cannot believe you are not an avid rabid football fan?
Like I went to the Bengals vs Steelers game this year, I didn't have any Pittsburgh stuff to wear because while I grew up loving the Steelers, but I don't buy any pro or college gear. I do have a terrible towel which my kids bought me a long time ago, but I didn't take it. Pitt lost and on the way out some Bengals fans were talking all kinds of trash and I was like "did you play for Cinci tonight? No? Ok...then STFU, YOU didn't do chit."
I just don't get it. I just can't seem to bring myself to that kind of fever pitch that apparently some people have to live and die with each play. I sat there quietly the entire time and watched at that NFL game. I can't even be one of those types of fans during college basketball where I'm not so technically aware of what's going on and I could be a dumb fan.
And while I am on the subject of fans...I love OSU, I want the buckeyes to win. BUT...I HATE Buckeye Nation. Never in my life have I seen more "die hard" passionate fans who didn't attend that university or couldn't have attended that university talk more chit for an organization that they have absolutely no affiliation with other than they grew up in the state of Ohio. That is absolutely the dumbest most absurd thing I've ever heard.
I just can't wrap my head around it. It's like some of these meat heads in the gym who have worked hard on building their body but were not HS athletes. "I'm an athlete" - no son..you look athletic, but you're not an athlete and that body doesn't make you tough, it makes you look tough.

The best fan I've ever seen was a few weeks ago at my brother's basketball game. Some guy and his son were sitting in front of me. It was a big rivalry game. Opponent ball out of bounds in front of us "come on 5, deep breath son, you got this." 2 trips later, our PG bringing the ball up the floor he yells "OK, relax here boys, be patient, we need a bucket." He cheered for both teams equally.
I asked him about it and he said "I'm just a fan. I love basketball and love to see it played well. That's why I came to this game."
This is about how I watch any sporting event. I may want one team to win over the other but I just like to watch them play, make plays, etc. I think that's why I don't like the NFL anymore. There aren't many "plays" that get made. The NFL changed the rules so the Colts could be the Patriots a few years back with the 5 yd contact rule. Since then...eh...I'm not interested.
