I don't know what is worse, watching a game with ignorant people, or hearing Matt Millen breakdown the schemes of FSU/Auburn on ESPN news tonight....can't win. Now I can see how the old Lions staff must have felt when Millen walked in and grabbed the cowboy remote. Sent from my VS980 4G using proboards Agreed. Someone in that room needs to break his fingers and get him away from the teleastrater!

Last pro game I sat down to watch was a late season (Dec) game of Dallas vs ? Back in 2007. It was the late afternoon game here on the east coast, and I made a point to stretch out on the couch with my boy just like me and Dad did years ago. After about out a quarter and a half, I got tired of trying to mute/switch off/avoid the dang slutty commercials for the PM shows the station was advertising. My 3 year old heard/saw more smut in that hour than he has in the 7 years since. So no, I don't watch any pro games anymore. I'm no prude, but dame if I'm going to subject my kids to that crap and the weeks of questions that follow. So far as the college games, I catch a couple each year but seldom schedule my Saturdays around them.

i try to watch a game per day, but it's downloaded and i watch it on fast forward to save time. i also skip the break in between plays. so its really an analytical perspective. but i sometimes enjoy watching it with fellow coaches, but mostly for the sake of company; i just like spending time with other coaches.

Watching couple Big Ten games off and on while breaking down trade tape on Saturday is my way to debrief in the season.
Basically don't watch NFL during season, am working Sundays.
I don't watch weeknight games. Would rather watch a good comedy. CFB was meant to be played Saturday afternoons, NFL Sundays. I don't even watch my alma mater if on one of those stupid MACtion games Tuesday or Wednesday.
Once our season is over I watch games of teams I'm interested in - Big Ten-MAC, NFC North. Will watch FCS and D-II/III playoffs some, and of course Army-Navy.
Don't watch bowl games unless there's a Big Ten or MAC team in it. Do watch NFL playoffs.

I'll have college games on pretty much all day Saturday and the NFL all day Sunday until our staff meeting. Since we have HUDL I break down film on the laptop, meaning that I'm not necessarily spending a lot of time sitting and watching the games but they're on. There are teams that I'll actually sit and watch if I'm not pressed for time- the Packers, Penn State, Virginia schools, teams that have a player that I've coached, and Stanford (love that power football)-but even then I'm rarely sitting there watching start to finish. To me there are two really boring weekends: the Saturday between the end of the regular weekend and the bowl games and the weekend after the Super Bowl.

I don't really watch the NFL except for the Super bowl which I watch for commercials, but I will watch just about any college or high school game. I do go in to coaches mode when I am watching though. It is hard watch games with people who don't know what they are talking about, live or in person.

I feel bad for all of you that don't / wont watch the NFL or College. You have to punch out and enjoy these games for their intentions...pure entertainment...nothing more.
Take a break and be a fan.

Believe me, I take plenty of breaks. The brand of football played in the NFL is boring as hell. I've seen better defense allowed in two hand touch 7on7 drills. The rules they've enforced for "safety" have made the game un-watchable. They trying to hand tie the defense so they can dumb down the game and make the final scores 50-40something so that Johnny Idiot fan can be entertained because scoring a billion points and not playing a lick of defense is "entertainment". Screw the NFL.

The NFL is football as much as arena football is football compared to the game I like.

I hate football during football season. Just started enjoying it a week ago. I just call out formation and play without thinking. My wife said watching football was better for us when I didnt know anything. And announcers drive me so crazy that I end up mad.

Whoever said that watching games with "common fans" drives them $h!thouse, I totally agree. Makes me want to drill my eardrums out. My wife knows more football than most non-coaches. This is SO true!

I dabble in watching a lot of football, but I haven't seen a full game all year. #1 I have a bit of ADD and just can't do it. #2 I analyze things i'm seeing and end up pulling out a sheet of paper and missing the rest of the game.

I love watching Big Ten football and certain teams in the rest of the country pretty much any flexbone team or power off tackle based program that runs a lot tight sets like Stanford or Pitt this year. I am a fan of the Detroit Lions, and try and watch or DVR every game, I watch with the same emotions of any moron fan out there, I try to go to a game each year (when our season is over) and I have a great time. I really enjoy taking a different perspective with this team. dcohio I'm pretty certain the Lions have tried your pass on every down theory and it has not worked as they have a hard time converting on short yardage plays and have had so many costly turnovers that have prevented wins..

The NFL is football as much as arena football is football compared to the game I like. I was part of a Group that owned a Pro Arena Team for a spell...so my opinion is somewhat skewed. We called it Nintendo Ball but admit it was a ton of fun. It was all these smaller Markets had as far as the Pro game goes. The fans loved it so it served its purpose as entertainment. I really enjoyed the Tempo of the Arena Game. Regular Football can get a bit slow at times.

Honestly, I'd rather watch Arena Ball than the NFL. At least Arena owns up to the fact that they're there just to entertain and not actually play the game of normal football. The NFL continues to ruin it's product to please the lowest common denominator of fan.

I love watching college ball but like a lot of you it either is background or it is dvr'ed then watched later where I can fast forward. During the season is tough especially this year when our division played on Saturdays so I would pick a game or two that piqued my interest, dvr it then watch it...still catching up.
I do see credit to unplugging and just watching for entertainment but it becomes difficult at times.
As far as pro, I'm a Browns fan therefore the season is short and the watchable level varies from minimal to mindbogglingly enraging therefore the game goes off radio goes on and multitasking begins, obviously between profanity laced tirades.

Start gambling on it and you will watch it much more frequently..LOL Amazing how it changes how u watch the game also. That late cover is a killer.
One comment from the bowl games is that great coaching (and preparation that goes with it) seems to be very much highlighted during bowl season Definitely saw some teams that were not as talented win out because of what i thought was better coaching eg Okla I guess it's the extra prep time and how u use it. Maybe that is why the pure option teams tend to struggle a bit more in the Bowls?

On this subject but off just a little bit: Does anyone else have friends or family that cannot believe you are not an avid rabid football fan? Like I went to the Bengals vs Steelers game this year, I didn't have any Pittsburgh stuff to wear because while I grew up loving the Steelers, but I don't buy any pro or college gear. I do have a terrible towel which my kids bought me a long time ago, but I didn't take it. Pitt lost and on the way out some Bengals fans were talking all kinds of trash and I was like "did you play for Cinci tonight? No? Ok...then STFU, YOU didn't do chit." I just don't get it. I just can't seem to bring myself to that kind of fever pitch that apparently some people have to live and die with each play. I sat there quietly the entire time and watched at that NFL game. I can't even be one of those types of fans during college basketball where I'm not so technically aware of what's going on and I could be a dumb fan. And while I am on the subject of fans...I love OSU, I want the buckeyes to win. BUT...I HATE Buckeye Nation. Never in my life have I seen more "die hard" passionate fans who didn't attend that university or couldn't have attended that university talk more chit for an organization that they have absolutely no affiliation with other than they grew up in the state of Ohio. That is absolutely the dumbest most absurd thing I've ever heard. I just can't wrap my head around it. It's like some of these meat heads in the gym who have worked hard on building their body but were not HS athletes. "I'm an athlete" - no son..you look athletic, but you're not an athlete and that body doesn't make you tough, it makes you look tough. /rant The best fan I've ever seen was a few weeks ago at my brother's basketball game. Some guy and his son were sitting in front of me. It was a big rivalry game. Opponent ball out of bounds in front of us "come on 5, deep breath son, you got this." 2 trips later, our PG bringing the ball up the floor he yells "OK, relax here boys, be patient, we need a bucket." He cheered for both teams equally. I asked him about it and he said "I'm just a fan. I love basketball and love to see it played well. That's why I came to this game." This is about how I watch any sporting event. I may want one team to win over the other but I just like to watch them play, make plays, etc. I think that's why I don't like the NFL anymore. There aren't many "plays" that get made. The NFL changed the rules so the Colts could be the Patriots a few years back with the 5 yd contact rule. Since then...eh...I'm not interested. Oh hades, been there, done that and bought the Tshirt. When I started coaching, my college buddies would email me all the time about the alma mater and the coaching changes and what I thought about them; when I went into detail how things couldn't ever be the same since we were in school b/c the dynamics had changed drastically (scholly limits), how I wasn't a 'fan' that I saw the game in a different light, and when we gathered for a game and I spent the whole afternoon commenting on the play of the safeties; they shut up and quit being my email buddy.

Used to watch a ton of college and NFL before I had kids. Now, I watch very little. My wife and I will usually catch half or all of a local game on TV that we are interested in on Saturday. I will kind of watch the second half of the Sunday night and Monday night games after everyone is in bed. I say kind of because I am usually working on the laptop. Look, football dominates my wife's and my two children's lives during our season. I am not going to allow it to dominate their Saturday. We have staff meetings on Sunday and so when I get home I am going to be present and engaged with them. Haven't been to a single game since my first child was born. Can't imagine leaving my kids with my wife and going to a game on the one day that I actually get to spend time with them, not to mention the only day I get to really be of any use to her.

I watch a lot of college football (especially OU football) and some NFL. I have since I was a kid, and I still enjoy them now. I suppose it's because I was a fan before I was a coach. Often times, I'll have a game on in the background for noise while I'm working a lot of times, but I just enjoy being exposed to the game. Sometimes I find myself analyzing other teams and figuring out what a coach is doing, but I guess I have the ability to simply vegetate and become a fan again when I want to.

I love just being a fan. From December until the Packers are done I go into complete die hard mode. Love it! The only Badger game I usually watch from start to finish is their Bowl game so I am not nearly as into those.
During our season there just isn't time.

I am right with you on this, but the distraction of the content of the commercials is what has driven me away from the NFL. Most of the season I have been in coaching meeting. However, when Jr wants to spend time with Daddy, I can't justify spending half of the time of watching a game muting the TV, switching to another channel, distracting my son over and over, and explaining what he sees that isn't age appropriate ad nauseum. I promise that is it isn't because I don't like Tony Romo.
