Watching these bowl games and NFL playoffs got me thinking, do any of you guys not like watching football sometimes? I haven't watched a full NFL game all year, college football I do sometimes because of the different schemes but sometimes I find myself watching the game so analytically that it is sometimes not enjoyable

You know what, now that I think about it, I don't watch a ton of games. I think it is because there is nothing that comes close to being involved and coaching in one. TV doesn't catch the atmosphere, and you will never have that same kind of emotional connection.
With that said, I did watch most of the bowl games which is probably more football than I have watched all the rest of this season, and I did watch 2 of the playoff games this weekend. Compared to normal, that is a lot of football watching for me. If I have time to be home sitting on the couch, I would rather be spending that time with my wife (if she is not working).
I only had time to watch a ton of bowls because she was working over most of the break.
I will not get to watch tonight's game. Working on my Master's and class starts tonight!

Emotional connection has a lot to do with it.
If I want to watch for the pure football-ness of it, I'd rather watch cut ups.

Hate watching pro games during the regular season. I only watch my favorite team if they hit the postseason. I also will watch one or two bowl games for schematic strategy.
My friends always want me to come over, kick a few back, and enjoy an afternoon of games. I hate it. Nothing more irritating as a coach to hear your friends telling you, a professional, why the game is going the way it's going. Then, the announcers call a split flow zone play a "long trap". Then, the camera goes down to a sideline reporter who informs us that the head coach thinks "He needs to score more points in the second half to win the game." Then, Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Anniston are doing commentary in the booth and promoting their new movie. Then, your head explodes.
In summation, not a fan. I watch enough film in a week to compensate for all the football I don't watch on tv in a season.

Until this weekend I hadn't watched more than 2 hours of NFL games total in the last 5 years. Not only do I not like watching the NFL, I hate it. Now, if there is a college or high school game on with a coach, scheme, or technique being used, that is a completely different story. I especially like it when there is a D3 game that makes it to TV.

As I have. Gotten older I have drifted closer and closer to the college game and away from the pros. I used to be the opposite, I'm not sure why, probably partly bc the college. Game is so transparent to me. By that I mean the game is much closer to the HS game and I can follow what an oc is thinking most of the time.

Case in point, Houston was playing some school on ESPN in the Mashed Potatoes Mediocrity Bowl. Switched it to ESPN2 for the FCS championship game. Way more interesting stuff being done down at that level.

I always watch games by myself, though, for the reasons you mention. I don't have to listen to my friends dissect the game plus I normally use DVR to rewind schemes I think are cool and fastforward through the BS.

I watch very little football ball during the season. After a will check out a few teams that run stuff im interested in mabey the title game. Ill go back and check out some replays
On espn online if im researching something. Watch almost zero pro game save a few teams where I know guys on staff. Got so many cut ups dvds and books on footba I find myself never watching games for enjoyment.
Explained it to some younger guys I coach with its like doing the home run derby during baseball it f's my swing up sort of speak.

If I had the choice between watching a college/pro game versus watching them practice...I would chose the practice 9 times out 10. The practices are far more interesting and relevant to my interests.

I watch a lot of college football. If a team runs a similar O/D/K to us, I will DVR, and analyze later. Normally, I watch FB on TV for the entertainment and enjoyment of the game. Most of the time I am on this site (was most of this past weekend during NFL games) or reading a book and 1/2 watching/ listening to the game. Sometimes I find myself watching even front teams and trying to see if they are going Eagle field/ boundary/ away/ etc. But, I'll save my analysis for my squad and just enjoy watching other people's squads!

I rarely watch an entire football game. I haven't watched an entire pro football game since the Bears were in the playoffs in like 08 or 09. Pro football bores the living crap out of me. Very little of it has anything to do with coaching. It's all GM work on who signs or drafts the better talent. They all run virtually the same crap and through parity they've eliminated any powerhouse teams. The NFL sucks IMO.
I used to watch the crap out of college football, but increasingly I can't even watch one of those from start to finish. I'll usually end up switching back and forth between a few games or something else on TV. I don't watch hardly any during the season because while we stop watching film at noon, I'm usually not in the house until 6 at the earliest. Saturday afternoon's when I mow the yard (2 acres), take the family to the pumpkin patch, go to movies, etc with the family. Might be able to catch the second half of the prime time game sometimes, but not usually. I get to watch more of the MAC stuff on Thursday night than anything else.
Even when I watch football now, I really don't care who wins or loses. I find myself rooting against my favorite pro team (Bears) more often than not because I can't stand their QB. The last time I watched a game with any sense of fan type rooting interest was the Nebraska/Texas Big 12 championship Suh's senior year. I really wanted that team to be able to play for a big time bowl. I really like the way they played, plus at one time I was a pretty big Nebraska fan.

I will have a football game on but the only games that get my undivided attention are Georgia Bulldogs games. I also watch Eastern Washington and Baylor games mostly for schematic value.

It makes me want to punch a baby. As far as watching games go I don't watch much pro ball past a few match ups I like. College I'll watch anyone that I find their scheme interesting or something along those lines.

I watch college ball, especially if it's a unique scheme or a lower level college team (the FCS Championship was fun). The only NFL I watch is the Patriots, just because I've lived in New England all my life and suffered through the 1-15 and 2-14 seasons of the early 90s, so this is payment for loyalty. Usually don't give a crap about the NFL otherwise. I'll watch NFL playoffs, biut only as background filler while I'm reading or doing something else.
Whoever said that watching games with "common fans" drives them $h!thouse, I totally agree. Makes me want to drill my eardrums out. My wife knows more football than most non-coaches.

Case in point, Houston was playing some school on ESPN in the Mashed Potatoes Mediocrity Bowl. Switched it to ESPN2 for the FCS championship game. Way more interesting stuff being done down at that level. Vanderbilt - Houston was FARRR more interesting than watching NDSU stomp Towson IMO. Not only was it a closer game, but, schematically speaking, the teams were in pretty stark contrast to one another, so it made for a pretty interesting matchup. I've watched a lot of Towson this year. Their playoff games against Eastern Washington and Eastern Illinois were particularly interesting. But, I digress. I watch a lot of college football. I always have it on when I'm at home (mostly replays), no matter what else I'm busy with. There are about 10-12 teams I always try to catch on espn3 or youtube because of their offensive schemes. I don't mind watching games with my friends, but they aren't particularly big football fans. Plus, they know what they don't know, so they aren't trying to tell me what's going on. They'll make comments on big plays, like anyone else, but they ask me a lot of questions often times, which I'm always pretty cool with answering. My passion for football comes from my dad (even though he wasn't a coach), so I love watching games with him when I get a chance, which is pretty rare nowadays. I don't expect him to know as much as I do, and he doesn't, but it's still a great time. Pro football is pretty boring, so I don't watch too much of it.

I find myself watching the game so analytically that it is sometimes not enjoyable THIS I find that I get too invested in watching a game at times on each snap and assessing the formation, D&D, matching coverage shell and predicting the outcome of the snap before it happens, that it becomes a chore and I can't just sit back and enjoy it. I really don't watch football Aug - mid November anymore. The NFL isn't much until the post-season and even then its normally not until the second half until the pros wake up and try to earn their paycheck. College game is far more interesting at the end of November. Forget about going out and watching games with fans...I find they don't start paying attention to the game until about 2 seconds after the ball is snapped (wtf are you watching??!)

I watch a ton during the whole year. But I hate watching with people. They either give their opinion of whats going on (usually wrong, always uneducated) or they want me to give them my opinion (you don't want to get me started.) I'll watch anything thats on because its better than anything else on TV. I usually have my laptop by me with Hudl up. Now that I have a new born, I'm sure I'll watch less as I'll have daddy duties and have to balance my life a little more than I have the past xx number of year.

Glad I am not the only one who doesn't watch much, especially during the season. By the time I am done watching our film, scout stuff, even peaking at a team down the road I really have no desire to watch much football on TV. I will watch some but can't remember the last time I watched a full game, I will watch a HS game over anything if I do. Of course with a 1 1/2 year old and a 4 year old in the house being able to sit down for 3-4 hours is impossible.

During the Season Ill try to watch my college alma mater or any of my old players, and catch the Rams game with my son for NFL Sundays. When I first started coaching I was all about watching games for schemes and systems, but after a while I grew weary of it. Im at the point now where I feel play calling is so vastly overrated that I really dont care about it much anymore (particularly when I have announcers touting guys as geniuses).
That being written, Its somewhat better now because when I watch games now I just watch it as a fan, mostly eyeballing individual players.

I don't watch much college I'll watch a few bowl games because I have more time
I enjoy NFL games much more
Most Coaches prefer the college game
I finally realized why this is true for me A. I don't have a college team. Generally I want to see the west coast teams win since that's where I'm from but not a diehard fan of any one team. Where as in the NFL I have a favorite team
B. I think in season I am so exhausted, stressed, and repulsed by Friday nights game, whether we win or lose, that I just need a day away from football to recharge my batteries. When Sunday comes around I'm much more in the mood to watch football

I don't know what is worse, watching a game with ignorant people, or hearing Matt Millen breakdown the schemes of FSU/Auburn on ESPN news tonight....can't win. Now I can see how the old Lions staff must have felt when Millen walked in and grabbed the cowboy remote.

There are a few unique teams I watch (college and HS) but I'm usually doing stuff while the TV is on and listen enough to see if something unusual happens. Otherwise I rarely watch a whole game. Maybe 1 a week during playoffs and bowl season.

I would like to murder my father in law when a football game is on. Man's never stepped foot on a football field. I'm not sure he is athletic enough to throw a football 10 feet. However, when a game is on he feels the need to tell me what they're doing "wrong".
I've only lost it once, but it was bad.
