I can't find the old thread, so is this worth exploring again?
where is the future of gender in football in the next 20 years?

Honestly, how many of you guys have seen any high school girls who could realistically compete with high school boys in football?
My point is, I guess, that, as a football coach, I'll take anyone who can help me, whether they are male, female, black, white, whatever. How many high school girls can compete physically?
I've been coaching football for 6 years at my present school and, in all of that time, I can think of only 1 girl who probably could have done it and she was a D-I college basketball player (probably would have made a decent wide receiver).

I would play ANYONE who who and could help us win games, regardless of sex, race, etc. If they are leagally permitted to suit up they will. That being said I have been coaching since 1992 and have only seen 1 HS girl that could compete as a position player(kickers don't count). She was 5'11, 240, and played NG. m She was first team all league. Was not fast but extremely strong and threw some centers around. I think all of us would take a NG that can reek havoc on a center and get the job done. JMO!!!

"opps" I did not mean that.... hope tis helps cause I am fired! CRL

Girls can definitely contribute on the middle school level. We had two good ones this season. One was one of, if not the best player on the team (WR). I doubt there are many girls that could contribute on the HS level, though, but automatically writing them all off is ridiculous IMO.

CRL I was privy to a pre-game pep-talk where the head coach told the assembled players that the team with the biggest d*ck was the team that was going to win the game. How would that change with girls? The team with the biggest ta-tas is going to win the game? ;D

some boys get offended by these statements as well.
Women have just as dirty mouths of men - don't kid yourself.

This was on the original thread but we had a girl (all-star soccer player) as our kicker 2 years ago. 35 out of 38 on PAT's and 1-2 on FG. Was consistant from 40 yards in practice and also made 2 tackles during games. She could play!

There is a girl, I saw on SportsCenter who is a pretty good player at a HS. I belive her brother is an OL for the Patriots or the Steelers I don't remember which. I think Right now the only positions that a girl could compete at is maybe Kicker and NG. No females in the skill positions in the near future will be able to compete at the HS level IMO.

In 30 years I've only seen one girl who was remotely a player ( Charles White's daughter was a jv DT about 5' 9 or so and about 220 ) and she was a legit jv player. Kickers and girls wholine up at WR don't count.

What ever, Ted is right, and sensitive boys in Birkenstock's who have applied to San Francisco State also have their rights . As for a Girl NG...give me a break, throw a trio on her and drive the Zulu(O Hole) with your 200 lb FB... If she can stop that then she can think about playing for me. Oh by the way Oink , Oink...I fight all the time about Michele Wee and Golf . Hope my wife does not read this CRL PS: Otherwise you might as well be counting reindeer and not wasting my time... I got a chance to see Ms. Mangold this year at state playoffs, she is definately not your average female type...lol One of my players got up close and personal via OSU's football camp, his comment was "Coach , she has more facial hair than I do" After seeing her play, she was mediocre but as far as being a female football player....not too shabby

I personally think of all my players, as'Bulldogs' - regardless of however else someone might classify them. Race, Sex, Orientation, Religion - I don't care. They are all Bulldogs if they are in the program. And I don't care if they can play or not. I have had plenty of guys that were less athletic and did not see the field - they were just happy to be on the team and participate. If they can protect themselves and meet the requirements of the program, they are in.
I teach leadership to our kids and one of the points that I make to them is that the world will seek to classify them - put them into boxes for their own purposes. And it is stupid so they should resist. I urge them to forge their identity as a group and to resist any dividing of the group. They should seek inclusion and equality. Everyone has different talent levels. If they bring great attitude and effort, that is all we can ask.
There is obviously a physical difference between the sexes that become more pronounced as we age. Anyone who has seen girls basketball vs. guys basketball - it should be plain. However, there are girls who better than some of the guys. If a girl chooses to fight the stigma that she will face for playing on a HS football team - why would anyone prevent her from playing? She could learn teamwork, effort, resiliency to failure - all the things that are great about football. If you take a self-centered view of 'can she help me win games' instead of considering the impact of playing football on HER life . . . . well, I just don't understand that thinking. Maybe its just me.

I would take one if I had to, but football at its best is a brotherhood and a male bonding experience. There are no males allowed in female sports even if no male equivalent is offered so why are females forced on male teams?

There are no males allowed in female sports even if no male equivalent is offered so why are females forced on male teams? You misunderstand -- it has nothing to do with female and male. There are the open varsity teams, where only the best play, and then there are the inferior, segregated teams, where only those who lack the Y chromosome are allowed to compete... There, I think I've just killed any possibility of employment in the educational sector for all time.

Girls ,Football...character building...winning attitude. Schools say they care about sports and what they achieve, team work, resilience etc.etc. you go 2-8 for 3 years in a row and see how long the Boosters and School cares that you are a good human being. Please, sport is a contest of will, and that is the will to win, the rest is a nice concept but so is Marxism. Look at every college program, even in "you can not be really fired" in Div 3 no scholarship schools where the program in a draw of funds for the College, you put together 3 losing seasons your out on your ear. If we are going to site a Football god, here is the most famous. "Winning is everything"... Vince Lombardi Women cannot compete at a HS Varsity level...and I donĀ“t mean kickers; as for Div 1 school , good gosh lets be real the only reason they are there is because of the fear of gender discrimination. They play on the scout team get their butts kicked and are respected for that, but will they ever play? Yes you can site kickers in college, but that is the lack of recruiting by the staff or pressure by the AD. Girls belong in the Girls locker room and Boys belong in theirs...they want to play ball then have girls football, replace freshman ball and bring back Fro/Soph. Then see how many of your Coaches are clamoring to be the HC of the girls program?
PS: I disavow everything I have written if my wife reads this...I was under the influence of male drug "beer" when I wrote it, and I will enter REHAB and say" I am sorry" to the whole nation in berkinstocks and give a donation to NOW.

I think some girls would have been much tougher than some members of our team this year.

I don't have a problem with girls playing football...as long as they are playing against other girls! We have boys and girls basketball, track, baseball/softball, tennis, golf, etc. Why do we have to allow girls to compete against boys in wrestling and football? Why not start high school girls football? Let them recruit enough girls who want to play at each school and compete against other girls. I think in lots of schools there would be plenty of interested girls. Our school held a powder puff game for the girls last fall, and those girls wanted to play full contact. But I don't think girls and boys should be competing against each other in football or wrestling.

A lot of schools have a hard enough time funding the "traditional" sports. How are they going to fund another football team? I think it would be interesting to see girls football in MS/HS, though. If they made it out of the boys season (like they do with soccer a lot of the time), I'd love to coach it. Coaching football is coaching football, to me anyway (hell, at this point for me, coaching anything is still coaching and I'd do it).

You are right that the majority of schools could not afford to add a girls football program. However, I would be happy to coach it if it didn't conflict with the boys season. Where are you in ND, Fort? I grew up in New Rockford.

Again...if a girl can help out and she is the best at her position, she plays. It is just not going to happen, though. There is NO WAY that 99.9% of girls who come out for football are going to be better than boys of the same age at football. Track, cross country, baseball, maybe even basketball, but no way in football. It is just too physical of a game and girls just don't have the right biology. crl - Do you have an extra loincloth I can borrow?
