I agree! ALWAYS DRESS PROFESSIONALLY. You are a professional. Act like it. I'm sure I'll take a beating over that one, but it beats me down when I see guys representing our profession poorly at clinics. Shorts, sweats, etc... = unacceptable. I guess that's just my opinion, but I know a lot of guys that certainly agree with it. I probably know more that certainly disagree with it. You taking yourself too seriously and me wearing flip-flops at clinics won't keep me from hanging half a hundred on you..... I personally love the laid back approach. I dress down whenever I can. I rarely leave the house wearing anything other than a pair of my coaching shorts and a school t shirt or hoodie. Think what you will, but I am going to be comfortable. It doesn't mean I am unprofessional and bad at my job. I only dress up in my classroom, and I change as soon as my prep period comes.

I either wear my coaching shorts and team shirt with my coaching shoes (same attire as I would to a practice), or I go with khaki shorts and our game-polos. We have all Under Armour shorts, pants, shirts, etc... so it is all pretty nice.

and since I went to college and played on the same team as Mike McCarthy, I wear my Packer Top every where I go! I don't care who doesn't like it.

What I have learned from this thread: I can wear whatever I want because I will always be better dressed than somebody.

This is probably more a result of one's "upbringing" i.e. those veterans they were around, the staffs they were on, their area, coaching organization, etc. Very similar in one's upbringing on "what to wear to church?".
i.e. some people will NEVER wear shorts or even jeans to Sunday service - due more to 'how they were raised', so to speak. Probably no different here. If a coach joined a staff that wore khakis, didn't wear ball caps, etc. then that coach isn't as likely to do that even after he's left that staff.
We can justify our attire any way we see fit, because, let's face it - we only have to justify it to ourselves. If you don't view it as unprofessional, then you don't care what the other guy thinks. If you consider something unprofessional, then you are going to have your stereotypical view regardless of what justification the other guy gives you.
With disregard to my personal opinion on the subject - if it don't matter to you, then I guess you don't care if it matters to me... and there isn't a reason you need to justify it to me. So, wear what you want and let people think whatever they want about you - there is no reason to get worked up about that.

I started under a HC who would flip out if you wore your hat backwards. He hated it with all hats. Moreso if it had his logo on it. The program I am in now it isn't a problem, but it drives me insane and it never used to.
