I would really love to see a giant Afro coming out of a visor. Not just an Afro puff, but a full-blown, 1973 vintage, Parliament Funkadelic Afro.

And the answer to this question is. Dress for your next job. Not your current one. I agree! ALWAYS DRESS PROFESSIONALLY. You are a professional. Act like it. I'm sure I'll take a beating over that one, but it beats me down when I see guys representing our profession poorly at clinics. Shorts, sweats, etc... = unacceptable. I guess that's just my opinion, but I know a lot of guys that certainly agree with it.

Well that is exactly where the skin cancer usually happens - on your face...
Need to lotion up and protect it - it is always exposed to the elements...
And no, not a fro - I rock a gumby

My wife always says clinics look like gang wars, everyone out in their colors walking around with there chests out... Me and a buddy when we used to go to ours, we used to chuckle how automatically everyone was in their finest club attire... So we used to throw on Soccer shirts, just to see the slightly confused faces. As everyone says, just be clean and tidy and yourself and it's all good... Personally I hate "try hards" so wouldn't go full on suit, but then I've coached with one guy who was so smart I swear he used to get dressed up to take a shower. Likewise met Hal Mumme last year who was in socks and flip-flops and when I drove him back to London he proceeded to take them off and put his feet up on the dash.... I let him off that, but did have a word when he slammed my car boot, lol!

"Plus-sized" guys have a hard time finding comfortable clothes so sweats don't bother me either. If they're neat and clean, fine, especially if it's team gear. Some things, though: 1. The hip-hop/redneck look. Massively oversized T shirt hanging down to the knees (Could be FUBU, could be John Deere); backward/sideways hat (possibly cammie or blaze orange); Mr. T Starter Set. 2. (This one isn't serious but, IMO, questionable): "Fan" gear. Dude, this isn't the place to tell the world how much you love those Packers. This can go from "Questionable" to "Douche-baggery" if you attend an on-campus clinic/visit rocking a rival school's colors (No VT maroon and orange in Charlottesville). 3. Alcohol/tobacco related stuff. You're really going to represent your school with a "Liquor in the front, poker in the rear" T shirt?

My first clinic was Louisville COY this year and i was shocked at the number of guys walking around in Tennessee, Kentucky, or some other SEC school for Saban's talk. That said, I had a "fan" moment myself - ran into Saban before the clinic and immediately I proceeded to text all my Bama friends of this.

I do wear shorts every day of my life - gamedays (usually) and weddings get pants I wear shorts most game days unless it is REALLY cold Pretty common around here... a lot of cargo shorts on game days I obviously wear pants if it is an occasion that requires a suit I wear nike pants/sweats to work a little during the winter, but the weather is really warming up here so the pants are going bye bye again I despise wearing jeans

I have 4 pairs of pants: one pair of jeans I bought to wear to the Niners vs Packers playoff game because it was cold as hell Game Day Khakis (will allow the staff and I to wear black or khaki colored shorts on warm weather game days... no sense having swamp a$$ while trying to coach) Game Day Black Khakis Suit pants
34 pairs of shorts haha

It gets hot here especially if you have the misfortune to have an early-season day game. I was at a buddy's game last year, a day game during Labor Day weekend. It was about 90 degrees and the field was Field Turf. The coaches wore khakis, long sleeved dress shirts (HEAVY long sleeved shirts), and sweater vests. I talked to my friend after the game and he looked like he was going to die. Not me.

I coached with a guy who wore like nike basketball/exercise shorts, under armour, WR gloves, and a wristband on each game... he was some eye black away from just suiting up and playing

I've been to many a clinic after a track practice or spring ball practice wearing windpants etc. However, if it is warm enough to wear shorts to practice, I change into something nicer.
This is coming from about the most toggish ol guy ever here folks. It isn't that hard to at least look somewhat professional. Khakis are a lot more comfortable than other choices.

This is a Texas word, right? Like how everything is a coke and everyone is fixin' to do something?

Urban dictionary was of no help. I'm lumping it with "reckon" and "I been."

Nothing to do with attire but one of the best things to do at a clinic is in a nice crowded area have someone yell "Hey coach! It's coach! We're up in coach's room having some beers coach wants you to stop up and say hi coach!"
It's great to see all the heads snap around and look at their faces as they try and figure out if you were talking to them.
Definitely a staff favorite at clinic time.

IMHO - most important "DON'T" at a clinic is DON'T wear your whistle!

I too, am a shorts every day of my life guy. was a PE teacher for 8 years before getting my current job as a disciplinarian last year. for those 8 years i swear i wore shorts every day. dead of New Jersey winter, snow, rain, whatever. for new position had to change my work attire to slacks with shirt/tie..... its horrible. love the job but cannot stand wearing the required clothing. im sticking to shorts to every clinic i go to (usually in february/march) regardless of weather.

Bermudas? Knickers? Plus-fours? You just need to be creative about wearing shorts at work.

On a scale of 1-10 how inappropriate would it be to wear a Bama hat of mine to the ND coaching clinic? I'm a lifelong Bama fan living in the the heart of Northern Indiana. I wore it last year but obviously this year I figured it might be too soon after 42-14..
Thoughts?

I could seriously see someone at the ND clinic trying to physically remove your hat...
Not any of the ND staff, they'd probably just give you some evil stares and mean mugs
but I would imagine a number of the coaches/people in attendance would be die hard lifelong Irish fans
