amthd45's thread on how different states have their playoffs set up got me thinking.....In the states you guys coach in, where is your state championship site?
Here in Wisconsin we play at Camp Randall Stadium (where the UW Badgers play) and at least up til a couple years ago I know in Minnesota they held the state championship at the Metrodome where the Vikings play.

In Virginia the AAA games (D.5 and 6) are in UVA's Scott Stadium, the AA games are at James Madison U., and the A games are at Liberty U. in Lynchburg.

11-man in Ford Field.
8-man in Yooper Dome (Marquette) or Greenville HS depending on where finalists are located.

The Citrus Bowl (orlando). But it has been in Doak Campbell Stadium (tally), The Swamp (gainesville), Dolphins Stadium (miami).
There is talk that the next location will be where the Jaguars play (jacksonville)

What are the crowds like? I can't speak about the A or AA games but the Virginia AAA finals are in a 61,000 seat stadium. We get about 10,000 which isn't great for two championship games but seems REALLY small in a college stadium.

Alabama HS Athletic Assn. alternates the "Super 6" finals between Bryant-Denny Stadium (U. of Alabama) and Jordan-Hare Stadium (Auburn) every year. Even years Auburn, odd years Tuscaloosa.
AISA, private school, plays theirs at Troy University.

Hershey PA. Kind of a neat when you win the east/west final and fans throw Hershey kisses onto the field celebrating a trip to chocolate town to play for a state title.

Camp Randall Stadium holds roughly 81,000 i believe, based on what I have seen at state games I have seen, I would guess in the BIG division probably around 10k people. But they only open certain sections to fans so it looks more full than it really is.

In SC the AAAA, AAA games are in Columbia this year (USC). For the past couple of years it has rotated between USC and Clemson for the past 5-6 years. For about 12 years before that the Weekend of Champions was always in Columbia with all classifications playing over Friday/Saturday, which made sense because Columbia is in the middle of the state. These games are played on the first weekend in December. The AA, A games are played in Columbia at Benedict College in Columbia. About 5-6 years ago the A classification broke off from the others and moved to SC State in Orangeburg, then AA joined the A games since it was cheaper. The A classification plays their Finals on Thanksgiving weekend (four rounds). AA plays the following Friday (five rounds). Each classification, except AAA, has split their playoffs into a Division I and Division II, with DI being the larger schools in that classification. AAAA plays 11 regular season games, and everyone else plays 10. AA everybody makes the playoff and the top seeds receive a first round bye. That means that there are 7 state champions split between 201 schools. That is 1 champion for every 28.7 schools. If you want to see this year's brackets go here: www.schsl.org/2012Brackets/2012brackets.htm

Next year and 2014 the Ohio finals move to Ohio State stadium. Although it is much closer to where I live I am not happy about high school games in giant stadium.

11-man in Ford Field. 8-man in Yooper Dome (Marquette) or Greenville HS depending on where finalists are located. The 11-man site used to be the Pontiac Silverdome but now they're at Ford Field. The actual name of the 8-man site is the Superior Dome. It's on the Northern Michigan University campus where the Wildcats play their home games.

Next year and 2014 the Ohio finals move to Ohio State stadium. Although it is much closer to where I live I am not happy about high school games in giant stadium. Me either and I don't think I will attend next year. The OHSAA is so stupid. Why not keep them at Fawcett and Paul Brown? It's perfect, you have ample amount of time to get from one to the other (especially if you know the back way). We have been staying at the Holiday Inn in Belden Village since 1995. Panini's is right across the street, they just built a Tilted Kilt 1/2 block over, Bob Evans is right across the street, Christie's is diagonally across the street...gas station on the corner in case we run out of spite...BDubs and Rooster's right down the street... I'm not at all happy about the location change. More centralized for everyone so attendance will be better is their thought. Here's my thought - take them off of TV and more people will come to the game. If I didn't know better I'd say the OHSAA is made up of retired HS administrators. ;D May I also add - the Indiana state championships...now that's a weekend. Hotel attached to the stadium...AWESOME!! The biggest advantage of playing in a bigger stadium is the facilities. In 2001 the AAA games were played at a smaller stadium, City Stadium in Richmond. The locker room was nice but limited. We played the first game so we couldn't go back to the locker room after the game. Parking was also an issue. The facilities at both Virginia Tech and UVA were much better. Our press box coaches REALLY like liked them because the big schools had a nice buffet for the media up there. It does hurt the atmosphere when you play in a stadium that's only 20% filled.

In Illinois we play all 8 games over Thanksgiving weekend. The past several years all games have been held at Mermorial Stadium on the Campus of the University of Illinois. Starting next year because of the Big Ten expansion odd years will be played at Huskie Stadium at NIU.

I'll second what fantom said - the press box grub at UVa is great! There was a buffet attendance that came in to our coaches room in the box and brought food, Gatorade, sodas etc. It was the only good thing that happened last year!

Tennessee plays theirs in Cookville at TN Tech. Used to be played at Vanderbilt. Tech has a great set up for high school championships. Perfect size. Now i just wish i could coach in one instead of watching from the stands.
