West Virginia plays all three state title games at Wheeling Island Stadium in Wheeling, which is on the Ohio border and about an hour from Pittsburgh. People complain often about the fact that the stadium is home to two WV high schools (one of which is almost always a championship contender), but they truly go all out to provide the best possible experience for everyone involved.

In Washington, the west side semis and the finals for all 6 classifications are played in the Tacoma Dome.

In South Dakota everybody plays @ the Dakota Dome. Holds 10,000. Nice play to play but gets hotter than heck. Speaking of which, we play our championship game tonight @ 7:30 cst. The game is online at sdpb.org if anyone wants to check it out. Both schools are undefeated. Both schools have real good QB's and both schools have a D1 WR/DB. Ours is going to Nebraska and theirs is going to Iowa. Both spread teams.

In Ontario, Canada the provincial "bowl games" are played at the Rogers Centre (formerly known as the Sky Dome) in Toronto. The Rogers Centre is where the Toronto Argonauts (CFL) play and where the Toronto Blue Jays play.

You guys have to travel to Toronto to play an opponent from Wawa (or wherever)? That seems like a waste.

You guys have to travel to Toronto to play an opponent from Wawa (or wherever)? That seems like a waste. We actually play the Thunder Bay region representative....It seems like a lot of pointless travel, but the atmosphere, surounding events, and exposure to all the CIS scouts makes it worth the trip to Toronto! We've been fighting with OFSAA for the right to play other regions in our bowl game though. I don't know why regions like Peel and Toronto think they're better than us when their OVFL teams comprised of the top talent from their 30+ high schools of over 1000 students each get smoked by our OVFL team composed of players from 5 high schools of about 600 students each....go figure.

In Kansas, they spread them out all over the state, which stinks because it would be fun to go and watch all of the games. 6A -- Washburn University -- Cox Kansas 22[Scores] 5A -- Emporia State University -- KSHSAA Network[Scores] 4A -- Salina-USD #305 District Stadium -- 810Varsity.com[Scores] 3A -- Hutchinson Community College-Gowans Stadium -- 810Varsity.com[Scores] 2-1A -- Fort Hays State Univ.-Lewis Field Stadium -- KSHSAA Network[Scores] 8-Man DI -- Newton-Fischer Field -- KSHSAA Network[Scores] 8-Man DII -- Newton-Fischer Field -- KSHSAA Network[Scores] www.kshsaa.org/Public/General/ScoreCenter.cfmIn Missouri they all play at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis

In Michigan 11 man Finals are at Ford Field 8 Man are at the Superior Dome.
I grew up in Pittsburgh and in PA. The WPIAL finals were at Three Rivers and now at Heinz Field. The State Finals are at Hershey field in Hershey, PA. Being a WPIAL kid the WPIAL finals at Three Rivers or Heinz always was more important than us than the State Finals. And up until the 2000s Philly didn't play in the state championships at all so it really wasn't a true "state" championship

In California, we play our state championship games at the Home Depot Center (a friggin' soccer field!). IMO, it has been a terrible venue. We have five different divisions for our state championships. All five of these games are played in a two-day window at the stadium. By the last (and usually the best) game, the grass field is torn to shreds, especially if it has rained at all. The stadium is not that bad because it doesn't necessarily give you the lost feeling of some bigger venues, but the field is wider than most because it's designed for soccer. I think the state championships fit best at a nice sized small college stadium or a nice sized junior college field. The fact that NorCal teams always have to make a trip down south doesn't make any sense either. There are some nice facilities in Fresno which is nearly the middle of California that would fit these games perfectly. games2010.crossfit.com/static/images/tonyb_HomeDepotCenterSoccerGame.jpgstblogs.motortrend.com/files/2011/10/Goodyear-Blimp-Home-Depot-Center-1024x640.jpg

My feeling was that the state champ was often decided in WPIAL play anyway. Maybe im wrong on that, but at least it felt that way when i was watching our district reps get crushed annually. Maybe more competitive now? I think hershey is a good venue though, just the right size. I think heinz is a little silly for the fans but good for the kids.

Well Philly teams have done ok since they joined the PIAA so WPIAL doesn't determine the champion every year. Also Harrisburg teams are always tough. I honestly think PIAA is the hardest state to win a true state championship in. There are only 4 classifications and especially for WPIAL teams they have to play a lot of games to get to the finals.

Been a lot of teams outside the WPIAL to win states. Just that WPIAL arrogance coming thru LOL I agree PA is tough to win with about 150 schools per class competing for the title.
