We have notoriouisly bad hearing on the staff. Always takes us two or three tries to notice the thunder.

Sent from my DROID Pro using proboards we are supposed to go in at the first sign of lightening but we only do that if it looks close to our position. In AZ every trainer was required to have a hand held device that would monitor the lightning; when it came within a certain distance we were required to come in from practice. Sounds crazy, but some of the monsoons out there are crazy, and after seeing lightning hit our stadium lights I think this is fair measure in the way of safety and not just being overly cautious.

No one should practice or play in thunder and lightning. We have monitors, I thought everyone did in this day and time. We get off the practice field when lightning is within a certain distance from us. The rules are that there must not be any lightning for 30 minutes before we resume practice or play. Better to miss some practice time than get someone killed. If you don't have a lightning detector, I would advise you to download the free Coachsmart app from Vanderbilt University, which will alert you to strikes nearby as well as provide you with other useful information such as heat and humidity readings.

At least you'll know not to touch Lil Johnny after getting struck my lightning; you don't want to get zapped either.
I would end up yelling at our guys because they'd be ignoring the coaches and staring at the lightning and saying:
"Shiny.." "Pretty.." "ET phone home..."

I have had to yell at some of mine for not getting out of the lightning....and had to coach them up on things like not running around picking up balls and dummies or stopping outside to take off their equipment and talk instead of getting inside.

Well long story short... everything worked out fine... kid and I both apologized Monday... principal told me to be aware of the perception of such events because all the crowd sees is me yelling at the kid and cannot see/hear he talked back to me...
Everything worked out... but I will be honest... all week I have been apprehensive about correcting him on anything... he is a back up LB for me... but I am afraid to correct him on anything in fear of something popping back up.

I will not appologize for this before monday or on monday... I make $35k a year to coach a game I love... That same salary can be earned by the manager at the local fast food joint... I am glad you changed your mind..you are the adult...John Maxwell says that a locomotive is the leader of the train, yet the locomotive has to back up in order to couple to another car to pull it along

Wow reading all this Im so glad its a different culture in the UK.
I had an altercation with a player 2 seasons ago whereby we had to be led away by different coaches and the sideline ignored the game to watch the swears being traded.
Afterwards we apologised to each other and the player admitted fault. This season in his senior year he is my defensive captain.
If it was the states Ive have been sacked the same day. Ive matured since then and not had another problem with anyone like that.
