Piggybacking off of the 1 platoon sub thread coachhuey.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=52861, do people have any thoughts on how thinking about running a high-tempo no-huddle scheme on offense ties into this? My roots are no-huddle and did some high-tempo stuff at a college that sold me on the value of that. The problem in my eyes could be with burning out the hogs and wideouts if we go at breakneck or close tempo, and need some of these same kids to play on D as well. Are 1-platooning and high-tempo incompatible? Any suggestions or experiences with this? Not sure we'll have the depth, but looking at doing hockey line change-type things with all 4 WRs at times, and then managing OL on defense more than O, we run a 30 stack and can get away with smaller DL at times. Thanks guys, Grouch

Last year we had the luxury of being able to 2 platoon. Not so this season. I believe in Malzahn book he states that 1 platooning with the Hurry Up No Huddle isn't as big of a deal as long as your opponents also 1 platoon.

You'll probably have to teach and trust your kids to do a lot of subbing on their own, which requires a very organized bench and a top-notch get-back coach (a rare thing, indeed)

we did it for an entire season two years ago. Had 6 going both ways...but only one up front. All the skill kids did. We got subs for them when they needed it. Limit formations so that they arent running 40 yard sprints in between plays and have them in good shape.

We are a no huddle team with low numbers. We had 7 go both ways. We usually sub the defensive line frequently during the game. Our QB and RB were one way players, to me they are most affected.

We go no huddle and have 4-5 two way guys. On defense the starting Dline knows that they have to rotate and we go every 3 at Nose, every 4 at End and every 5 at Tackle. This means we always have fresh legs and more kids feel like starters. We designate 3 OLB's as starters for two spots and 3 corners for two etc. The kids buy in and sub in without a coach calling them in. When its crunch time we holler "Black Defense" and the best 11 are on the field. Depending on the year, we will play two tight ends or TB's or whatever. We like kids to think like starters. Even if they rotate, they call themselves starters.

This is a great thread... 1 platoon vs. 2 platoon= slow down on offense 1 platoon vs. 1 platoon= uptempo 2 platoon vs. 2 platoon= uptempo
That being said Coach Roberts brought this my attention that if the team isn't handling your uptempo well, then you can't slow down regardless of what platoon they are.

If possible play your best 11 on defense and limit 2-way lineman. On offense rotate drives with gusys that start on defense. This gives your two way skill guys an opportunity to rest throughout the game.
