Is Turnabout really fair play???

Yep.

Yes, I cant stress the if I can part enough.. there are no sure things.. but they are a 1A school with about 30 players including freshmen.. and we are a 4A and should have around 70+ with freshmen.. So we "should" have the upper hand..

Let me get this straight:

1. You coached team Less-talent last year.

2. Team Jack-a$$ beat you 52-0 and displayed an extreme lack of sportsmanship

3. You now coach team Most-talent which defeated team Jack-a$$ 22-20 last year.

4. Here is where I'm unclear - which team did you and Brophy leave at the start of the season - team Jack-a$$ or the new team you have, team Most-talent? Or another team? Too many pronouns.

In any event, if you teach the coach a lesson and run up the score you are also punishing the other team's players and reinforcing to them and your players that its ok to run up the score beyond a reasonable level. Show them how to be classy.

Do you punish your players when their parents are jerks and the kid has no control over what the parent says or does? That is what you are proposing. The players for this jerk had no control over the game score.

First, why don't you tell the other coach how you feel and why before the game?

There are other ways to embarrass or make your point to the coach beside running up the score.

1. Use some gadget plays early so he looks bad - fake punt, onside kick, fake FG, reverse pass, exotic formation etc. When the other team fails to adjust or make the play, most people blame the coach for either not knowing it was coming or for the players no knowing what to do.

2. Build a big half-time lead and start your backups and jv team for the second half. Or even in the first half - now that's embarassing, especially when other teams see it on film.

3 When you get a big lead, call the referees and him into a huddle and ask the other coach if he wants to go to running time since the game is so lopsided. Or ask the refs to ask him for you.

First: I wouldn't run it up, but I sure as heck would leave no doubt who was the better team.

Second: Why in God's name is 1a school squaring off against a 4a school?

Yea, pretty piss poor job of scheduling on the part of the coach before last.. we are on 2 year contracts in Louisiana..

Our pre-district consists of two 2A's and the 1A school..

To many variables in a football game to assume your going to win. I do wish you luck though.
If your Team gets way ahead are you going to leave your starters in with the possibility one may get hurt?
also what justice would you be doing your substitutes, they need play time to get better also.
making your team better should be your main objective.
It does not make sense if its just to prove a point for your personal gratification.
Please do not lower yourself to the other coaches misguided actions.
You would only be hurting the integrity of the game as the other coach has already done.

Why waste time even thinking about this game? You're already looking ahead to a particular game on your schedule and you haven't even gone through 2 a days yet.

If you beat him but lose all of your other games Coach Ahab, will your players be happy?

Show him you have some class if you beat him. Don't lower yourself to his level. Pull your starters if you can, and let the other kids play. Don't forget to prepare for the other teams.

No similar action necessary!
Show your class, don´t let the poor kids pay for their coach´s behaviour. This is a great way to coach YOUR kids, what respect means. Even if they spit you in the face, you should help ´em up, when they fall (after you hit ´em hard).

Just beat him like you would any other opponent. Hopefully, this means that when the score is out of reach, you have your back-ups in and you leave them in.

At the end of the game, you might make a comment like "Coach, I COULD have...but I NEVER would...not even to YOU."

That would frost his garden pretty well, and you still come out showing more class then he deserves.

running it up is fun until you get your 6'3" 200 lb quarterback hurt in the process.....

nothing like losing a stud when you are 6 touchdowns ahead....

This reminds me of an episode of "Taxi" in which a hairdresser essentially humiliated and belittled Elaine. Alex went back with Elaine to confront the male hairdresser (played by Ted Danson). After Elaine had made her point, she picked up some hair product and contemplated messing up the hairdresser with it.

She didn't. Her comment was that she did not want to lower herself to his level, and Alex Reager commended her for her choice.


Then Louie walked up to the hairdresser and said, "She might not lower herself to your level, but I will!" and doused the son-of-a-gun with the hair product.


Take whatever lesson you want from that story. I'd like to think I would behave like Elaine, but some teams make me want to be Louie.

Remember that as coaches we are responsible for setting the proper example for the kids on our team. Also, while it might be enjoyable to run it up on an idiot coach, his players don't deserve that kind of treatment. They didn't choose their coach.
