Don't know if any of you gamers out there have seen this. I just ran across it at the EA Sports NCAA Football website. It's a breakdown of some of the playbooks that will be in the game. www.easports.com/ncaa07/playbook.jsp

I saw that. That's about the coolest feature I've ever seen implemented into a video game.

They are finally going to have the Spread Shotgun Option! I'm going downtown tomorrow to reserve it (360 or PS2 though? Not sure). I saw they are having a tournament at the store this weekend, so I might have to lay the smackdown.

In this new version can you customize your playbook like in the current ('06) version? Or do you have to choose a certain team's playbook and stick with it?

PS2 and Xbox have custom playbooks, Xbox 360 will not.

Just formations and plays, as in years past.
87 new offensive formations have been added. Which equates to 3 more formations per team, and about 50 more plays for each team.

87 new formations? 50 new plays? That is like Tog and Hueys playbooks! Can I run a true jet sweep yet?

There are some guys who already got the game because of screwups by store employees about the shipping/ release date, guys who know people, etc. Go here for more info on one person's view of the game: www.maddenmania.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=8You would have to register for free but it is a good site for video gamers.

Just so long as they NEVER take out the triple option plays from the I formation or remove the wishbone or other fullhouse sets (power I, Stack I etc).

I got a call from GameStop Sunday night that it'd be available Tuesday morning at midnight, since I reserved it. So, not having ever done that before, and that I couldn't sleep to begin with last night.... I drove on over. WTF?! I waited IN LINE at ONE register (after drawing numbers) to purchase this game, and didn't leave the store until 12:45 am! What was the point? (I did, however, get an opportunity to network with a few local HS coaches there....) Well, anyway, that's the last I'll ever do that (reserve Madden? You crazy!?) The game fuggin is AWESOME!! I have not purhcased NCAA consistently over the years, though I've played it every year....and this is what I've been waiting for!! It has the "playability" and ease of Madden, but all the atmosphere of the college game (with momentum and all that stuff.............the crowd noise is nuts!). They have punt return / KOR fakes and reverses.....all Special teams are controlled by the right joystick (awkward at first), so AT ANY TIME, you can pull up and run a fake ("fire"). Offense & defense has the control of madden, with movements and checks.....you can JUMP the snap with the "A" button. I attempted to play a Dynasty game last night, starting as UL Monroe and changed my schedule to play my opener at LSU.... I played 9min qtrs on heisman........and it was pretty good going at first (pistol offense / 42 defense) but my back and QB kept fumbling and a 24 to 0 1st quarter {censored} kicking ensued. So I had to switch it to Rookie, just to see what it would be like to pull a major upset......72 - 41 at the final (lol)......In season recruiting is sweet, too. That's about as far as I got. *** No jets, though....major bummer.....but I will option the {censored} outta ya!

What's your thoughts on the playbooks? Do the new playbooks live up to the media hype?

I thought the Florida and Nevada (and Texas) stuff they had were good.
I've heard a few opinions. If you're just a 'gamer' guy, and don't appreciate what formations can do, those folks think this game is ho-hum.
I'm really into the game (nice diversion for the time being)....it has 'touch' passing like Madden so the throws aren't as cumbersome as they used to be in NCAA.
But then again, I haven't been a 'regular' buyer of NCAA in years past.
IF you could run jet sweep, I'd be in heaven, though....I mostly do the flexbone stuff.

What about custom playbooks? Is it like in years past when you can only choose the formations, not plays?

It's a great game. I bought it Tuesday and haven't stopped playing it. The AI is much better this year, its a little toughter to run the ball, which makes for a more entertaining experience.

I got the game 2 days ago. I like the ease of the passing game..but it does seem toooo easy to pass at times, and they made the running game more difficult, in so much that it is much harder to break away.
The only negative in my mind is the special teams puts you in 3rd person..so you really can't view the whole field, which is semi-annoying. A good game thru and thru though.

anyone try the "campus legend" or whatever it is?
you have to manage the player in his career. Managing between getting better as a player (skill games), student (taking quizes of actual subject matter with pass/fail consequence), or social (campus notoriety)........... (kind of dumb and lame, but a new twist)

Brophy, I'm actually doing Campus Legend before I do regular Dynasty. I have completed my freshmen season and am 3 games into my sophomore season. It's pretty cool, but I wanted to make it somewhat relevant to my physical size and since O-line isn't an option, I made myself a 6'2'' 250 pound fullback. There's no way I'm going to accomplish all the goals they set out for me as a FB! My new plan is to use position skills to build up speed points and move myself to TB for junior or senior year! ;D
