First coaching job--20 mile drive, one-way. Second coaching job--one hour drive on I-95, one-way. It nearly killed me and at times I thought it would cause me to get divorced. Probably 70 miles, one-way. Third coaching job--I lived behind the school. I could walk to school in under six minutes. Big change! Fourth coaching job--I drove six minutes to work...about three miles. Current job--35 miles, one-way. I had become somewhat spoiled in my previous two jobs so this is tough...especially on Friday nights driving home. However, I have found that a drive home from work allows one to "get over" a bad practice or game and bring less work "home" to unload on one's wife...

30 minutes from where I coach. Made the decision 2 years ago from coaching and teaching at the same school. I don't regret my decision, but my responsibilities and gas prices are beginning to take its toll.

You mean thats not what they are there for when I get home is to tell them why our football team had a terrible practice and why I'm considering sitting our starting captain??? I may reconsider this marriage thing

OP was looking for advice-personal experience on disadvantages of coaching a "fur piece" from where he works-lives, not mileages or time travelled.
