5 minutes from school, if I have to top at the one traffic light between home and school. Love the ease of being so close. I teach at a large school in a large suburb, so it is still easy to be mostly anonymous.

Having a little bit of a drive home can allow you to debrief some too, not all bad so long as the drive itself isn't stressful. Right now I go 18 miles (20-21 minutes) one way. 25-30 minutes would be my limit. I'm in almost the exact situation. I enjoy the ride home most time myself to relax and have had some really good ideas come from it. Also like some others have said, I love not living in the town I coach in. I can go to the grocery store or whatever without having to put on a press conference.

When I was a young pup coaching and teaching I lived in an apartment building right behind the school property. I went through a hole in the fence, so my commute was probably 3 seconds. I was too young and dumb to know how good I had it back then.

1.5 hours of gravel roads through sleet and snow uphill both ways!
Seriously though, a little under 40 miles away. Just a little over 40 min of driving mostly country or 2 lane state roads. Still live just outside the town I played my HS ball at. Was coaching there through college but I couldn't turn down a head coaching and teaching gig at age 23.
The worst drives home are after friday night road games. I've done this for 2 full years now and I can't see me doing this much longer. Its going to be a home change or a job change soon. One of the two!
There is something to be said to be able to go close down a bar after a bad game and not have to worry about seeing ur QBs dad with wonderful suggestions about how to use his son better. That's a big plus!

Three miles, bout 8 minutes or so unless theirs traffic at the four way stop. And yes, buying a loaf of bread can turn into a parent teacher conference pretty darn quick.

I live about a mile from the school. It is nice because I can walk up there if I needed. Sometimes though I wish I lived out in the country because The students in the school know where I live. I would like to have a beer in my front yard at some point. No privacy.

I am going to make a job change. I have been coaching Offensive Line at a Division III college for the past 3 years. I decided that it was time to move on. I have pretty much accepted a job at a High School. Now the deal is that it is about a 25 to 30 minute drive. It's all Interstate and 4 lane the whole way until you actually get to the town. Anyways, how far do you guys commute to work? Gas prices are soaring right now, but I drive about as much with having to drive downtown in stop and go traffic and make the recruiting trips every now and then. I also had to teach parttime at a middle school for some extra money. So other than gas prices, what are some disadvantages? Or you can look at from the approach of one of buddies; he would call that a '2 beer ride'.

1.5 hours of gravel roads through sleet and snow uphill both ways! When I get older I'm sure I'll be saying "You darn kids with your teleportation devices and bullet trains! In my day we had to DRIVE to school in a BUS! Uncomfortable seats and horrible music the whole way!"

When I was in college five minutes from the office right off campus. When i GA'ed I was o campus and i was a three minute walk. Know as an QC at a major D1 sec BCS school. It's a 5 minute walk, except during recruiting season when I have one of the coaches cars at my place then it's a three minute ride to and from work. I just park in the FT coaches garage right next to the stadium.

55 minutes.ugh. but I teach PE and those guys hang on to jobs forever. I'm lucky enough to coach at a school only 20 minutes away. That makes weekends MUCH better!

25 min. Would be 10 if the wife and I bought house B 3 years ago but house B would have made my commute to my previous job 50 min so we bought house A. I was offered my current coaching job two months after buying house A naturally.

First job was driving 45 minutes to and 45 minutes back. Second job has been 15 minutes to and 15 minutes back.
I never minded the longer drives, but the gas costs did suck.

I coach and live in the same town. The school is 5 minutes from my house. But the school where I work at is about a 45-50 minute ride in the morning( shortcut to interstate), and in the afternoon it is about a 30 min ride to practice because of less traffic ( no shortcut). My morning commute, I actually don't mind. A little Howard Stern or Bill King on College Sports 24/7 is a great listen in the morning. The PM ride can grow old sometimes during the season. It does make for some long days.

15 to the school I teach at, another 5 from there to the school I coach at. Then about 20 home. It's not a bad drive to work, but at 7:00pm after practice all you want to do is get home and get something to eat...not drive another 20 minutes. We're moving and are hoping to be within 10 minutes of where I'll be coaching next year.
