Well, I believe getting the kids amped up to play and in the appropriate mood to do battle can start with having good music to tune them up during their pre-game. I'm trying to come up with a CD or two so the kids are listening to something while they stretch and do the pregame stuff on gameday. Rather than the normal silence the program usually broadcasts, I think this will amp the kids up a bit more for battle.
What songs do you all have/use over the loudspeaker for pregame warmups? Any good football type songs that you use..?

We have the kids make them since they know what music is "IN" and I know I would have a hard time coming up with anything good. Our AD has to approve of the cd before it is played though.

Coach if you do a search you will find a thread from last summer that has tons of good suggestions for pregame music. It was a couple of pages long and you can probably find more than enough to get your CDs started.

If you let the players make it you better make sure you or someone above approves it before you use it.

I have an assistant coach do ours and it can vary a little throughout the season. I have no problem with good high energy music, but absolutely no profanity. We don't allow any profanity anyway in our program, but even if we did you have to remember that there are grandmothers, children and others at the games and that type of music is completely inappropriate. We also will not allow anything that promotes a thug mentality or gang type attitudes. No place for it.

Easiest to let the kids do it, they know what they want and like, and it doesn't feel "imposed" on them.

One part that I forgot to mention was that you need to have someone that is up to date with the lingo in the lyrics. I have to select a kid that I know has good morals to check the cd as well as the AD has to approve of it.

I wont have thug/gang type music and will not allow any sort of swearing in any songs. I was actually hoping more for themes - like songs that have good beats, but no words. Most of those types of songs are the ones that pump the kids up the most, without having to say a word lyrically. Unfortunately, I cant get the search feature to work on this site to check for the old thread you speak of. I'll try again later.

I let the kids do it..........but they have to have it to me a week ahead of time. No swearing or sexual references. It has to be music the crowd will like too. Here are a few songs from the last couple years.
Living on a Prayer In the Air Tonight Don't Stop Believing Eye of the Tiger Summer of '69 Enter Sandman

Forget making a playlist or mixtape, the last school I coached at had it down the best: the band (pretty big band too) would send out the drumline and those band kids would go just nuts playing the drums for like 45 minutes from the end of the JV game, through varsity warmups and up until kickoff.
100 times better than any pregame song I've ever heard! Most of the kids really got up for it too. No worries about cussing either!

We don't play anything during warm up. I was going to start this last season until I had an opposing coach ask why we didn't have music playing and he seemed kind of freaked out by the silence. We went on to beat them pretty bad. We were their only lose of the regular season. Our kids are use to silence, but don't mind the "noise" of other places. So when teams come to our place, we feel like it is to our advantage to keep it silent. That is just what we do. However, I would have to agree that "Thunderstruck" is the best pregame warmup music ever.

I believe music is good as long as it is cuss free/censored. While I like the no-sexuality idea, even for music from the 70s there is a lot of sexuality either overtly or covertly place in lyrics. "Thunderstruck" seems to work best, even down in the toughest of ghettos or barrios. The edited vrsion of Maino's "All the Above" is still culturally recent and the kids love it, best of all it's an acceptable rap song. While a little more explicit in things the edited version of "Fireman" by Lil' Wayne seems to get our kids pumped too. edited Breaking Benjamin, Rev Theory, and Three Days Grace have good pre-game songs. On an unrelated note the coolest thing for team entrance was a team we played in HS would come out of a dark corner gate to "Cowboys From Hell"chanting and screaming. Funny too 'cause it was a very religious town.

We play a selection of college fight songs - kids aren't thrilled by it, but haven't really complained either.

I don't know anything about current music..I am sure the kids don't want to listen to music that gets me pumped up as I did not want to listen to my parents music.....The University of Oklahoma has some "in music" on their recruiting website..you know that the music will be "all good" if it's on that site...It's also what the "big boys" are listening to

Well Fella's, I found a few and I figured because this is my post, I should update some of you and let you know of the ones I liked. As I said before, I am more interested in a good beat than words. (Far too often the words are trash and get you in trouble with parents/fans) Here they are:
The following can be searched on Youtube.
Thunderstruck (Tittsworth Remix) Let's Go (Instrumental) Heart of a Champion - Nelly Can't Be Touched (Instrumental) Welcome to the Jungle DJ DLG Remix (4:50-6:00) Funk Soul Brother Not In My House - Nelly Hustlin' (Instrumental) Here Comes the Boom

My 16 year old daughter usually listens to this song "Panic Attack" by Dream Theater before her realistic martial arts workouts. She is usually so tensed and focused during her workouts (I don't work out with her anymore even my belt ranking is a lot higher than hers - she trains with MMA fighters). Outside the martial arts dojo, my daughter is calm, kind, and sweet person with a nerdy personality.
I am not sure if that Panic Attack is a great pre-game song for some teams...
Just a suggestion.

In my playing days we had about a 1/2 hour of time to get dressed and mentally prepared, I used to sit at my locker with headphones and listen to an all megadeth mixtape. Good , mostly clean speed metal but its sung not barked. The last song on the tape was "crush 'em" great song for hitting

I'll try this again - area coach and his assistant recently got relieved of their duties for 365 because they had inappropriate words on their pregame music. The school was threatened by a law suit...
