Same here. How many think Stafford will have the same impact for the Lions that Ryan did for the Falcons? We'll check your answers at the end of the season . Personally, I think Stafford will be good, I just think the Lions could use more help elsewhere.

Ive been watching and man are the RAIDERS DUMB in my opinion. I can't believe they would pick the 4th rated player at his position over someone who was rated by some as the best player in the draft. But I did hear that the Crabtree family was relieved.

How much can 40 time matter?
Heyward-bey is a little taller and some umph faster than Michael Crabtree. Crabtree on the other hand, is simply the best college receiver I've seen in at least a decade.

I'm actually loving the Bey/Crabtree scenario because I'm going to have YEARS of bay area talk radio Raider fans complaining about being stuck with Bey while the Niners have Crabtree. Plus I never actually thought Crabtree going at 10 would be possible.
On a side note, Young, Edwards, Wingo, and McShay are the only one who don't seem to be still sobering up from last night. Berman, Smith, Kiper are all doing TERRIBLE. I'm alternating between mute with music and listening during picks I care about.

Pat White to the Dolphins. Can we say Wildcat with Pat White, which isn't even wildcat anymore, it's just the spread.
Jon Gruden just gushed. Gushed: "the spread to the NFL -- a wildcat that can throw."

the Hey-Bey pick didnt surprise me at all. i had OAK taking him in my mock even hes by far the most "Al Davis WR" this year i like Sanchez better than Stafford. i think hes got more "magic" in him. that little bit of stuff that Elway and favre were made of. not on their level at all, but i think he'll be better than Stafford im a big Brady Quinn fan, so im glad to see CLE get Mack at center and ecstatic they Robiskie at WR

It will be interesting to see if the Dolphins use White as a "Wildcat" or as a "Slash". Certainly White gives them options in the backfield - or at WR - that Pennington can't. Interesting...

I think if DHB was in Techs system he would have Crabtree like numbers or maybe better, I think he will do fine it's the safety from OHIO that got me scratching my head.

Gushed: "the spread to the NFL -- a wildcat that can throw." I was surprised about the lack of talk on the internet on the dolphins drafting Pat White. Do you think this means they're trying to trade Ronnie Brown, last year's "wildcat QB"? Any of you use any info you get from the draft with regards to what to look for in players at our level? One thing I noticed is the emphasis everybody puts on long arms.

Any of you use any info you get from the draft with regards to what to look for in players at our level? One thing I noticed is the emphasis everybody puts on long arms. I don't really, the guys that get to that level have for the most part hit the genetic lottery. While there may be very little overlap, I'm not going to change depth charts because a kid has longer arms, or bigger hands. Skill, desire, and fundamentals are what matter. I think that only when you deal with a group that has all of those things at a high level to the physical traits then become the differentiating factor. What i find interesting is how much Pat Whites success or failure in that type of offense might affect the draft stock of a certain golden boy in next years draft.

It probably changes a lot in next years draft. Just look at this years draft: if it wasn't for joe flacco and matt ryan, Stafford, Sanchez and Freeman would have probably been drafted later in the first round. You saw the same thing last year with the RB class: everybody was so amazed by adrian peterson's performance the year before that a lot of teams made sure to get a RB early in the draft.

It looks like there could be a really good crop of QBs coming to the draft next year. Does it look anyone is positioning now, say by trading this year's picks for some earlier picks next year, to take one of the "name brand" QBs that should be available next year?

Does it look anyone is positioning now, say by trading this year's picks for some earlier picks next year, to take one of the name brand QBs that should be available next year? The Seahawks got the Broncos' first round pick in next years draft and they were seen as likely candidates to draft Mark Sanchez as the eventual successor to Matt Hasselbeck. Even if they have a very good season in 2009 they should be able to move up considerably in next years draft with 2 first round picks if they covet one of the "name brand" QB's

Ya know what I love? THe moves, the trades, teams like the Jets and the Browns dealing...I also LOVE seeing teams basically saying, "This position on our team is a weakness, we need to address it"
Such as, when the Eagles took QB Kolb a few years ago, and when the Cards take RB Wells.
And did anyone see the interview with Michael Oher on ESPN? Just awesome

Mike Leach sticking up for his guy Michael Crabtree: www.sportingnews.com/blog/the_sporting_blog/entry/view/23506/mike_leach_eric_manginis_an_idiotOf all the personalities that should be piping hot over the proceedings of NFL Draft Saturday, you wouldn't think Texas Tech coach Mike Leach would top the list. But there's Leach, absolutely lighting up Browns coach Eric Mangini for an apparent whisper campaign in which Mangini spread the idea that Michael Crabtree is a diva after a short meeting with the player. Crabtree slipped to the Niners at No. 10. Leach slipped Mangini a few body blows when talking to the Bay Area media. From Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News: “Crabtree as a receiver has been more successful than that guy has been as a coach. ... I think he took it upon himself to figure that in a few minutes he had all the expertise on the subject of Michael Crabtree that he needed. And so we’ll see how those non-divas up there in Cleveland do this year." ---- more successful than that guy as a coach? ouch

We're into round 7 and it doesn't look like he's gonna get drafted. There's hope, but it's not been a great draft for guards.

IMO
Atlanta, Seattle, Jacksonville and New England had great drafts and have people that will fit in nicely with what they do.
Dork Raiders are unfortunately run by Al "I'm still in the AFL" Davis which means they will mess up almost as much as the Lions.

I'm happy for Trevor first player from our High school to be picked up in the draft even if it did almost take to the end of the draft.

Most interesting pick to me was Pat White. I am interested to see how he is utilized by the risk taking Dolphins.
Al Davis is a bonofied megalomaniac.

Ron Jaworksi said he rated White as an excellent QB prospect and not just an athlete. Should be an interesting camp for Chad Henne and John Beck (probably time to call his agent!). Still can't believe Harrell didn't get drafted.

Also missing...
Chase Daniels...
Will this hurt the spread gurus in recruiting? All of the following were drafted before guys who easily threw for 4000+ YARDS and 30+ tds with single digit interceptions...
None could get a look?
R 1 - #1(1) DET Matthew Stafford (QB) Georgia ESPN Video R 1 - #5(5) NYJ Mark Sanchez (QB) USC ESPN Video R 1 - #17(17) TB Josh Freeman (QB) Kansas St ESPN Video R 4 - #1(101) DAL Stephen McGee (QB) Texas A&M R 5 - #15(151) NYG Rhett Bomar (QB) Sam Houston R 5 - #35(171) SF Nate Davis (QB) Ball St R 6 - #1(174) DEN Tom Brandstater (QB) Fresno St R 6 - #5(178) SEA Mike Teel (QB) Rutgers R 6 - #23(196) STL Keith Null (QB) W Texas A&M R 6 - #28(201) IND Curtis Painter (QB) Purdue

Daniels signed a FA deal with the Redskins.....someone will pick up Harrell.
