Hey Coaches, Anyone have any GOOD information on this team. It looks like to me that this team was way ahead of there time. Everyone just looked like they were freaks. They ran that offense with ease! Don't get me wrong, it is up for debate. This team must be if not close to the Best Team of all time.
P.S. Anyone by chane have film on these guys?

Their strenght program was second to none. I believe the SC was Boyd Epley. I remember watching his tapes in jr high.

Spread Attack, This spread sheet is mind boggling at the balance of attack. This team existed before I coached, so now looking at the numbers in comparison to what I remember it, is really interesting stuff.

'95 Nebraska / Miami Oranage Bowl (94 season...I guess) was probably the greatest NCAA game ever payed. The '95 Husker season was insane (thank God for the Big 8 schedule!)
Terrell Farley, Jared Tomich, the Peter Brothers, Tommy Connolly, Donte Jones, and a buttload of robber

Terrell Farley, Jared Tomich, the Peter Brothers, Tommy Connolly, Donte Jones, and a buttload of robber I think you meant Terry Connealy, played on 94 team I went to every Home game as well as the Fiesta Bowl as well as 94 Orange Bowl and the KO Classic. The Orange Bowl was best game Ive ever attended. 95 Team people left out: Tom Osborne Charlie McBride Then: O-line: Chris Dishman Adam Treau Rob Zatecha I Backs- Ahman Green (NFL), Damon Benning (NFL), Clinton Childs (AFL), team never missed a beat the 7 games Phillips didnt play. Team didnt need him at all. He needed the team etc Kris Brown BEst blocking reciever ever: Clester Johnson Mackovica Brothers FB The 94 NAt Championship team started 3 different QBS Tommie, Brook Berringer and walk-on Matt Turman ( vs then top 10 KSU) Great team football.

Coach Tom Osborne was a great coach but even better man.
Those years I wasn't paying attention to offense, just defense. I had the privilege and luck to be at FSU when Coach Osborne and Coach Bobby Bowden were well known coaching "buds." I saw them together a number of times.
The two of them were opposites in just about everything from attire to personality. But both-great man and great coaches. In the 90's Coach Bowden's staff had met with Coach Osborne's staff about this new fangled idea of the 4-3 defense. I don't remember which went where, just that they got together.
I remember hearing Coach Osborne tell about this event and how Coach Bowden told me he needed to get more speed on the field if he wanted to play this style defense. Coach Bowden-always the showman, made lots of jokes about it. I guess Coach Osborne must have decided that was a good idea, it certainly worked.
I'm not saying here that Coach Bowden caused this to happen, don't misunderstand. I'm sure Coach Osborne would have won his games anyway, it just makes a nice story for me because I saw it. What I mean is, I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. (even a blind hog finds an acorn occasionally)

They are very good freinds to this day, Coach Bowden has come up here a number of times to speak, always well recieved, huge crowds.

He consults, has the books and DVDs etc, good stuff.

Dave, it's funny that when "legendary" moment occur, they don't feel like it at the time. Years later, when you reflect back, you realize that certain event or time was a "great moment.
I've heard NFL coaches and players saw these very things about going to the Superbowl. They always thought that it would be easy to get back there-some never do.
We all have similar thoughts, although on a much less grader scale. If you have something special like a championship or an undefeated season-it might not feel unusual at the moment. You just don't understand how rare these moments really are until time passes.
I was blessed to be able to see and hear these two giants of coaching.

I have been fortunate enough to meet them both. Coach Osborne endorsed my book and I was in his office 3 weeks ago working on something for him as they reconnect to the grass roots in the State with Coach Pelini. I was on the Nike Stage with Coach Bowden in Orlando 2006, Both very humble and gracious men.

Purchase Boyd Eppley's book "Strength Training for Offensive Lineman." It give a history of how that program got started and how they got through some of the pitfalls as well as the entire program outlined in detail. Then you can buy "Strength Disc" and customize it to fit exactly what you want to do. It's terrific. I think Husker Power still sells it. I bought it 2 years ago from UNL.
Eppley's new approach is much more based on functional training I think. He has a company based in Colorado Springs and I the program is called "Epic Index" or something.

I used to be a big cornhusker fan until I met on of them and became good friends. He told me about the rapant drug usage during the oborne years. both steriods and street drugs.
I am sure it is the same at all top 10 unversities in that era.

Yeah you cant be at the top without someone throwing stones. Top graduation rates, no cheating ( buying of players) and more academic All Americans than anyone, almost 2X the number of the team in second place and more than entire conferences.

Wales, Based on your comment, I think about this with Brett Farve all the time. I think he now realizes just what it meant and has not made it back.

Top graduation rates, no cheating ( buying of players) and more academic All Americans than anyone, almost 2X the number of the team in second place and more than entire conferences. if you knew who this player was you would have a different opinion. Heck I hear irving fryer talk about how he was on a cocaine binge the night before the orange bowl game against miami. I am sure it happened at miami to. I am not just pointing out nebraska. I lose respect for dr tom when he brought back lawrence phillips. he did not have to do that. He could have won with out him. no he has to bring back a guy who beats his girl friend and the db who fired shots into a car. like it or not NU like colorado had problems.

Yes Dr Tom didnt need Phillips, that is the EXACT point, the team didnt need him, Dr Tom felt the kid needed the team and he had done everything asked of him to stay connected to a support system that was the team/football. He has a PHD in Psychology and has always taught classes at NU, including today, he has some reasonable insight in that area.
Ive read about everything about these guys including Irving Fryer, never heard that.
Phenomenal record 60-3 and played in 4 National Championship games in 5 years, narrowly missing 3 in a row if not for a phantom flag on a punt return etc and all with high grad rates and academic all americans all over the place. 280 home full houses in a row etc Pretty unique stuff.
If you read the book "More than Winning" you would get it. NU has done steroid and drug testing on its players since 1980, well beyond what the NCAA calls for.
Good friend of mine played PW ball with was the starting FB in 80s. He transfered in from a DII school, they sat him for a year even when he could play because he came in juiced. He lost over 30 lbs , after they got him off it. They tested everyone extensively, didnt happen after then and certainly not during thier national title runs. Ive known a ton of players, they got tested all the time.
