sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3632904I know there are a ton of discussions on this site about Franklin's system... Just wanted to see what thoughts some of you have on how the system worked or didn't work at Auburn.

Just goes to show you; no matter how brilliant an offensive mind you are, if your not the boss, YOU'RE EXPENDABLE.

Tony Franklin seems to be in the wrong field. Marketing and advertising seem to be much more profitable ventures.

Says more about Tuberville than Franklin. If you want loyalty, show some first. Coward! Can't handle the pressure.

imo, scheme did not fit the players at hand plus Franklin really didn't get to run "his" system the way he did at Troy; Coach Tubs made a rash hire in the off-season and simply wasnlt willing to wait to bring in players that would be a better fit. Saban's success putting some heat on I guess doesn't help.

He was never given the chance to succeed.
You mean to tell me that Kentucky and Texas Tech in their early days had better athletes than Auburn? The personnel issue is null in my opinion. It's not like teams were manning up and making their WR's beat man to man press.
He didn't get the resources nor the help to coach the offense.

The way this whole thing played out...I really can't be sure that TF was Tuberville's choice.

I have to agree that TF was not his choice. It is going to be interesting to see what happens now and where he ends up. In Franklin's book he starts off by saying that he vies himself as PR type person.

He sure did a great job at Troy.....the couple games I watched them play.....offense was very efficient....no confusion.....scored tons of points, running and passing.....my hats off to the guy.....looks like a really good system to me?

It is difficult to run a offense when you have to teach the coaches as well. No one gave TF a chance. I think this is a BAD decision in the middle of the season. This will bite TT in the butt in the long run. I am a AU fan and I am dissappointed. He says lack of production is the reason he let TF go. However, the other coaches that have been with TT for a long time have not been productive.
The rumor in is that he TF said in practice to Coach Nall, "If you are not going to teach them how to block right I will." Not sure how true that is but it came from a friend that is in the boosters.

We run the system as well. We are a lot better this year with it because our new Oline coach is a guy that believes in what we do. We are coming from running the triple option. Our old o-line coach did not buy in to this type of offense. He kept saying he did not like it in practice to the kids. Our kids did not fully buy into because they believed in this coach.
Now we are a lot better because our kids have no choice.

I don't know the guy and don't know a ton about his system but that sucks. I know it's the SEC but you can't wait till the end of the year? You can't wait 3 more days until after the next game? Something must have happened that isn't being reported. Then the media gets wind of it before he can clear out his desk? Pretty classless IMO. Aznando

i am no fan of tony franklin but tuberville has slipped in my book he was already on my, "coaches I would like to not see win too much" list because of his connection with fulmer
the story of how fulmer screwed over johnny majors, a man I do respect makes me sick
it all boils down to what goes around comes around
and stick by your principles, if you don't then you will also eventually get screwed over too
this may be conjecture, but it appears tuberville was forced to take tony franklin by some boosters
instead of telling them to kiss off like he should have he took him on even though his philosophy and the philosphy of his staff didn't fit and now he is going to pay for it
it's kinda sad to see a once great program fall apart like this

Some folks believe Bobby Lowder was behind the hire and most likely behind the fire. Word is, he runs the show around there.

Nothing wrong with offense, nothing wrong with the personnel, nothing wrong with the play calling, it´s just not working and I owe the team my allegiance first... sounds like Tuberville should be tub-of-s##t. Someone did not get along with someone and the loser got canned or someone was thinking of his as# first. Saban´s wrath reaches far in Alabama and the Iron Bowl could be Tub of doodo´s last game too!

IMO, the whole reason Franklin was hired was because Tubbs or Lowder knew that they couldn't get the recruits they wanted because of Saban being the relentless recruiter that he is. Therefore, they use a sort of logic which has them recruit the 2* and 3* players that Saban doesn't want/need which happens to fit the "Spread Eagle" system. It's no secret that Tubbervile went duck hunting during the middle of recruiting season last year and that simply shows you how much harder Saban is willing to work than him for the Julio Joneses and BJ Scotts of the world.
As far as firing him when they did, that is plain foolish. they have an SEC road game this Saturday and then a bye. You would think they could at least wait until Sunday to fire him. There must have been a big blowup or something for the firing to happen when it did.

The bottom line is Alabama has committed to the power run game and its working well, so the boosters are saying why are we trying to spread the ball when we have been a power run team for many years. If Alabama can do it, then we should be too. The same boosters were saying we need to open up the offense more last season. The external influences people have on D1 college programs is crazy.
On the other hand, Tubberville knew what he was getting into when he hired Franklin. He knew that Franklin was a hot head and had an ego, so he should have either hired him or managed his coaches better. This is a shame......

Tony will be finished in college football I guess. The only guy who believes in him is Blakeny at Troy. Does he go back to only consulting with system teams?

His system is complex to the O and simple to defend. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around??
Doesn't someone owe me 3,000$ for that info??

I'm not too sure I agree with joelee on this one, with all do respect. I think that Franklin will be fine. Troy's success demonstrates beyond a doubt that the offense works, so long as commit to it entirely. Franklin, like other system guys, and by this I mean June Jones, Mike Leach, Hal Mumme, and even Paul Johnson, believes that you have to make an entire commitment to the system; it's not just series of plays, but a culture, mentality, and way of life for that matter.
I guess the question is, and maybe this is what joelee was getting at, is whether Franklin is till viewed by most of the guys in the profession as radioactive because of what happened at Kentucky. In all honesty, if I were still in the profession, I would want a guy like that with me. He's independent and will not simply take it up the a... just to be one of the good old boys.
In the end, the fact that the system works will prevail. What will probably happen is some team in Conference USA, the WAC, or the SunBelt will hire him, a place like Florida International, for example, that needs a jolt in order to get over the hump.

Tony Franklin will be fine not doubt in my mind that he will be coaching division 1 football next fall......This all speculation but I think it would be fun if he would join Rush Probst at Colquitt County...

I know very little about Auburn but if the offense is still stinky after this isn't TT himself in hot water? If he didn't want to hire TF and it happened any way, what's stopping TT from getting replaced?
TT really opened himself up with this move.
