I need a less stressful thread --- How about telling us about the greatest football player that ever came out of the high school you graduated from.
OK, I'll go first -- Macomb, Illinois school size 1,000 - best player to come out (as far as I know) was Phil Bradley. He was a freshman when I graduated so I didn't know him well but he already had "skills" as a freshman.
Bradley was a two sport star in college as he was named Big 8 player of the year three times as QB at Missouri. He led the Tigers to three bowl games as an option QB that set yardage records that stood for ten years. He played baseball in the pros for 8 seasons and was named to the all-star game in 1985.

Brandon, MB. Derek Sholdice Played OL for my HS, then played for Northern Illinois and then played for a few years for Edmonton and Winnipeg in the CFL. I was drafted by Edmonton. Israel Idonije whom plays currently with the Chicago Bears went to one of the other high schools in town. There have been a few others in the past that have played in the CFL as well.

When I was a senior we had two all state first team players and ten of the twenty two all conference selections but thats not who I'm going to mention. I'm going to mention the only freshman to play varsity let alone start in the forty plus years my HC coached there.
As a freshman he started at both halfback and corner back for our team and helped us go to states. He was a four year two way starter and had a rushing career (better receiving too not to mention defense) right up with the best that ever played in the state including Andrew Pinnock, Rahshon Spikes, Tebucky Jones, or the more recent Alex Thomas. If he played in a feature back offense (I, Single back) instead of the wing-t he would hold all of their state rushing records no doubt in my mind at all even though he would be pulled out at halftime in just about every game he played (my senior year we beat teams 50+ to less than a touch down every game and that continued for the next four years).
Anyway this kid gets a full ride to Penn State and starts for them as a true freshman at corner back. He finishes the year leading the team in receiving as well essentially being a two way starter as a freshman for one of the biggest programs in the nation.
Then the roof collapses: He gets into some serious off the field trouble and ends up in prison after being kicked off the team. There goes his career. Pretty sad.

Mike Hollis Played for the Jaguars (went to pro bowl one year) and the Giants
He was a kicker, thus the "kind of" tag

Mike Tomczak.....John and Mirko Jurkovic. I believe Tomczak may have been the Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year his senior year. They were way before my time.

The best guy to come out of our program (West Hancock, a co-op in Western IL) is probably someone I currently coach with--Rob Munson. I believe he was Illinois's all time leading rusher when he ended his career although several have passed him since. He went on to play at Quincy University. Arguements can definitely be the Havens brothers; one played for Northwestern and one played in the MAC, Miami of Ohio I believe.

I played with Eric Hicks from the KC Chiefs/NY Jets. He is the best from my school, also Jovan Johnson Iowa briefly with Steelers and in the CFL now went there well after my time.
As from our city we have three Super Bowl champs: Fred Belinikoff, Mark Stepnowski, and Bob Sanders.

How about telling us about the greatest football player that ever came out of the high school you graduated from. San Francisco Lowell -- Gil Byrd. He was two years behind me, and we could tell he was special.

Haughton High School Haughton Louisiana.
Not only was Joe Delaney a super athlete.. College All American in Football and Track, and was the 1981 Rookie of the year while playing for the Chiefs.. but he was also a hero..
In 1983, Joe died will trying to save 3 children from downing in a pond near Monroe Louisiana. The kicker, Joe could not swim himself.
This was before my time at Haughon high school.. but I did come a long as a freshmen when his nephew Alja Delaney was a senior. You could tell there was something special in the name Delaney.. In one game, I saw Alja catch a TD, run in a TD, return an interception for a TD, and return a kick off for a TD. He was larger than life then to us little freshmen.
At my current school, the biggest names that played were Terry Bradshaw, Joe Ferguson, and Robert Parish..

Hands down Ricky Williams. I also had the pleasure or misfortune however you want to look at it of playing against some very good players who are now in the NFL. Reggie Bush, Alex Smith, Kellen Winslow Jr., Amon Gordon, and Teyo Johnson. We also had some good baseball players come out of my High School. Ricky was a good ballplayer and Eric Karros came out of there as well.

A guy named Mike Stratton. Played for the Bills and Chargers. I got to coach with him for a while as he volunteered at our school. Some may know of the "Hit heard round the world." in the 64 AFL Championship. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Stratton

Trent "Even I Won A Superbowl" Dilfer, former holder of Ray Lewis' jock strap, current ESPN shill for whatever dumb narrative they want to push.
His stepdad is really great guy, we actually coached together for a season and getting to hang with him was one of my favorite parts of that year.

I had to think about this one because I graduated in 1971 and have lived in another state since 1977. I've kept in touch, though. Funny thing is that after all of those years the guy I kept going back to was a guy who I played with:
Valley View HS Archbald, PA Jack Koniszieski (Jeez, I'm Polish and I'm not even sure if I spelled it right) Your basic All-American kid. Area Player of the Year as a Junior. QB, DB, and punter. Played SS at Penn State. Also a good basketball and a great baseball player AND Honor Society AND and helluva nice guy.
Jack is probably the most important figure in the history of Valley View HS. VV was made up of a jointure of three small schools. A lot of jointures have problems because of grudges between old rivals and jealousy. I'm told that that was happening behind the scenes among the adults but never happened with is players.
Jack had played at Blakely, the most successful of the three schools. As I'd said, Jack was the returning Player of the Year and had played on a great team. He could have looked down on us guys from the other school that Blakely had regularly hammered but instead he was the most welcoming, friendliest guy you could find. The same was true of other star players from Blakely.
He might not have played in the NFL (as far as I know, nobody from my HS has) but that was an influential guy.

Was fortunate enough to play with Russell Wilson. Kid wins at everything he does.
None of the important people thought he was big enough or good enough to make it. Anyone who knew him knew otherwise.
Best leader I have ever been around, and I'd venture to guess that'll still be my opinion in 50 years.

I come from a po-dunk little school that isn't known for winning or great athletes. So since there isn't much history, and well, since there isn't much history so I'll go off my span of knowledge. That span ranges from the late 70's until my graduation in 1987.
There was Tony Miller who as my HC called a 'Houdini" He was the QB who always made a play/escaped pressure when it showed. He QB'ed a team that made it as far as the semis back when a team actually had to be good to make the playoffs. Lost in the semis to the same team in the region that beat us in the regular season to be region champs. He was a terrific baseball player and earned his stripes at the next level on the diamond. He also played basketball. Everybody love Tony because not only was he a great athlete, he was just a nice person to be around.
I was a senior and played with his little brother Marcus who was a soph, and he was the same type player. Just real humble, quiet kid who tried his best ever rep. The kind of guy a teammate naturally gravitates towards. Unfortunately Marcus was killed in an automobile accident on his way home his freshman year of college.
No professional athletes, no all americans, just good teammates.
