With the draft coming up, just wanted to see how into it some of you guys are... I have had a party at my place for the last 10 years (since I was 15) and it's always hard to find more than 2-3 people who are interested enough to watch/care/discuss it over a weekend...
I'll be having one again this year, and only got about 2 other people who are interested in coming... just want to see how far "out in the woods" I am...

without being a dork or turning this into a 'fan' board, I'll offer that I'm really big into the draft.
My friends and I used to have big draft parties with $30 bets on the first round, with the guy with the most correct picks getting the pot.
My day usually ended once my team would pick, and i would descend into trying to will myself into a blackout via alcohol because of really bad picks and reaches.
I always enjoyed the scouting aspect of it and the ability to cherry pick quality players to build a great team (skills, techniques, attributes that set players apart from one another).

1. We have a player from the our school where I coach who MIGHT be a day 2 pick. If not he's gonna get picked up by someone as a F/A.
2. I will watch to see where the kid from DeFranco's Witherspoon who ran sub 4.2 at his pro day winds up.
--Actually I guess I check ESPN.com more than I tune in b/c I hate waiting for that ticker to work its way around.

the draft interests me a great deal. I understand that it is almost lottery like odds that your first round pick will have a pro bowl career. infact, more 2nd to 4th round wr are stars then first rounders.
you would think teams would learn and not pick a wr in the first round.
I usually listen to it on the radio. I am interested to see what the Green Bay Packers are going to pick in the number 30 slot. do they go qb, te, db or olineman. with 6 picks in the first 4 rounds they have some options.

I love watching the draft and this year there will be two at my draft party, me and my wife (who is there by force and will probably have something to do while the draft is going on). I like the scouting aspects of it as well and I am a Vikings fan. I wish I had the power to make them choose Brohm or Flacco in Rd 1 instead of choosing another DE that will probably have a career like Erasamus Jameas, Kenechi Udeze, or Demetrius Underwood (all First rounders by the Vikings that didn't/haven't panned out thus far). On a side note, does anyone else remeber Underwood, the guy that tried to kill himself? The Vikes has a pretty bad history of picks, not a whole lot of starters from previous 1st round drafts (Peterson, Kevin Williams, Chad Greenway, McKinnie). That's sad to look at.

I hate to admit it but I'm a draft nut. I sit in front of the TV and comuter with PFW's draft issue in front of me crossing off names waiting to see who the Packers take. This year will be especially exciting because we have two former players who may get drafted.

For the past several years, we've had a bash at a buddy's house...guys coming in from all over the country. Lately, it has become more of a get-together to see everyone again moreso than a draft party, but we still watch some/most of the first round, have tons of food and adult beverages, and create draft boards to track our favorite teams.
Bad news - I'm going to miss our draft party this year... Good news - ...because I'll be in Vegas!

Absolute fanatic.
Don't know why, but from age 10 till age 30+ I have enjoyed the draft.
Teams are so secretive in everything they do, but ALL 32 teams, for one day, have to show their hand.
When a team picks a QB...or a CB or whatever in the first round...you know where they feel their weakness is.
Just love it...Go Packers, no more Ahmad Carrolls, Jamal Reynolds, give that team a stud cornerback

I like the draft because I watch so much darn college football I know just about every guy who gets drafted. I usually try to do some homework or something while its on. I can't just sit and watch it, but I have it on while I do something else. I think that last year I might have watched the majority of it, (usually while doing something else) but it was on.

When I was a kid, say ages 7-16 I used to watch the first day of the draft with a pen and pad and track every pick. Then the internet came about and I din't really have to track the draft on the day. I still watch a lot of college football and am interested to see where guys go, but I doubt I'll watch intently like I used to this year, I'm visiting my brothers in San Diego to go deep sea fishing. The boat leaves 6am (pacific time), I should be back at 2 pm, so I guess Ill miss 8 or 9 picks.

I remember as a kid in the early 80's I would have to go buy a USA Today because that was the only source of info pre-draft day. Our school got football digest and they barley had any info in it. Now there are 2-3 magazines - every newspaper, 2 cable channels & 100's of websites. and at least 3 grown men who make six figure incomes or more from being "draft experts" (has Mel Kiper ever been wrong?)

This is the first time, I´ll have the chance to see The Draft Live via NASN in Germany... but we´ll have our 2nd game of the season, and afterwards, I´ll have to officiate a match in the evening. So again, only internet will help...

Groundchuck, I'll agree that the bears have made the Vikings look not as stupid but I have to say the Vikings still take the cake. Other than the Underwood debacle (how many other teams have taken a guy in round 1 who never played an NFL game? Even Ryan Leaf played in 15) very few teams can say that they traded two years worth of draft picks on a washed up RB...anyone remember Hershel Walker?

I don't know if it is a peeve, gripe, or legitimate question...
but I have never really understood the fickle-ness of the draft (and one of the reasons I was actually glad to stop playing the game).
Take for example, Brohm, who was considered the top quarterback in 2007, was a lock for Atlanta's 1st round pick, now a year later with an even more consistent performance may not even get drafted in the 1st round..............?
What ACTUALLY happened?
Injury, game performance, drug test, legal issues?
No.......just varying degrees of information and propaganda.

And a bad Louisville defense that somehow made Brohm the scapegoat for a 6-6 team that was supposed to challenge for a Big East title. The draft is just an extreme example of the "What have you done for me lately?" mentality. Whoever gets Brohm is going to get a steal in the early second round.

This is a perfect example of topics that get discussed over the course of the 2-day draft... I HATE IT when people act like these college kids should "stay in school that last year" just because they want their college team to do well the next year... If Brohm came out last year he would have made about 10 mil guaranteed, but this year he may only get 1-2 mil... I don't think anything has really changed except the "Market" he is entering. Last year a lot of teams at the top NEEDED quarterbacks badly, and so his "price" was up... after seeing the JaMarcus fiasco in Oakland, I don't think teams want to pay that much money to a QB that high in the draft, so the "market" is down. Same reason I just bought a house here in California... The market is at 50% of what it was 2 years ago... Got a house that was worth over 400,000 in 2 years ago market, for less than 240,000... Nothing changed about the house... just the market

[... after seeing the JaMarcus fiasco in Oakland, while completely unrelated.......I'd hang on there. I don't know of any player that has actually "thrived" with the Raiders in the last half-decade. Since Gruden/Callahan left (not directly attributed to them), nothing has gone right there (Gallery, Sapp, Rob Ryan, JaMarcus, Moss, etc....)

To be sure, they have drafted POORLY at QB! That is what is killing this franchise! I don't think you can call Grossman a bust, he led the team to the super bowl and then also lost it for them. If it was Akili Smith or something I'd be with you.

Hey guys,
There's a reason the NFL draft has so much TV time...people want to watch it! Don't be ashamed to be in that group! They wouldn't televise it if a only couple of geeks wanted t see it. I watch the first round out of general interest, then keep up here and there for Auburn players.
FWIW, I think McFadden wont go as high as everyone thinks, because the NFL has discovered that it can find good value in a "servicable" RB for much less money than a guy like McFadden will command if taken in the early picks. Also, there are no fierst round QBs in this draft. None that are solid franchise QBs anyway. It is chock full of OL and DLs though. But they're not "sexy" picks.

I was sort of a draft geek years ago, about 96-ish...
In my earlier years, I used to break out my little "draft notebook" and write down every pick as they came across the screen( why, I don't know- I just did...I felt like an old lady saving her non-winning bingo cards or something)
Now-a-days I sit at B-Dubs (Buffalo Wild Wings) and get hammer-time drunk and eat 5 of every type of wing I can...
This is the first year I'm going to a draft party- Polish horshoes, Boccie tournament, keg, and a big pot of my girl's sausage and peppers- not to mention some brats on the grill...

Watch the 1st round after that I check in just to see what my team is doing. I am a Dolphins fan so some of the drama of watching the first day as a fan will be missing. But I will watch just to see when certain players get drafted and where they end up.

Seriously I almost jump off my balcony!!!! I mean seriously its been 8 YEARS since they had a actual starting QB!!!! I like Ted Ginn Jr., think he's going to be a solid if not good WR, don't know if I like him as the #8 pick with a foot injury. This year it seems that everyone believes that you can still get a quality QB in the 2nd round so why not save some money get one then..... all though I'm still not sure they'll take one at all.
