Coaches:
Is anybody confident they have developed a new O or D or ST scheme that is going to be productive for the 2008 season?
Or have you tweaked an existing scheme well enough that you and your staff are excited about the O or D or ST possibilities?
Would love to trade concepts...and keep pushing the envelope!
Thanks,
KB

Well, I am still trying to find a way to score and not block anyone. Cause we can't seem to block them in the first place.

Wow...tough crowd in here!

I think the "toughness" of the crowd is due to the fact that coaches are more worried about getting their kids to do what they ask, improving the details, improving the techniques, than they are coming up with something revolutionary and gaining notoriety.

West Virginia scheme coupled with the wing-T and Jet Offense with the standard two by two and 3 by one gun stuff and the Red and Blue wing formations added with such varied formations as 5 wide and the Pistol wing.

Hey Beard, I love rocket..we scored once and only blocked 2 people. And that's 2 we could have missed.......So there is still room for improvement.

Offenses w/o blocks --- hmmm -- I've seen some pretty good veer attacks that seems like they only block one guy -- winged-t misdirection sometimes nobody blocks anybody on the tackle trap and I've seen some scores... guess i need to emphasize winged-t and veer -- oh yeah - have also had some success with no one blocking on one-step shot gun fades -- thats enough offense for anyone...

I am not working on anything...too busy trying to learn new stuff...But I will tell you what I think you will see as in trends... 1. Teams especially in the NFL will try and get back under center. I think It will happen in the college ranks too. 2. which isnt far from one, teams who dont get under center are going to go in one of two direction: A. total pass and screw the running game a.k.a June jones Or be they will be the modern day wishbone teams looking for the big play through the zone option look for you to make mistakes in the secondary a.k.a Fla.......after 15 is gone. I disagree with more teams going back under center. I think more and more teams will begin to go from the Gun. The pro's out way the con's by far in the Gun. I feel this way about the NFL also, it's hard not to look at the Patriot offense as a model.

I agree with spos21ram....I think the gun is allowing a quicker read, which seems to be the most important part of the NFL attack at present.

I am going to better our pistol, try to do few things out of many formations, but yet keeping it simple.
Working on our 4-4, more stunts, and better blitzes. K.I.S.S.

Have any of you Coaches had luck with Stacking WR's?
If Yes, any good schemes come to mind with this type of pre-snap look? I am looking for solid ideas...thank you.

I think the gun is allowing a quicker read OK, color me puzzled. How can you get a quicker read from the gun, where you have to look the ball into your hands first, than you can from under center, where you can read while dropping back?

I've never done it, being a out of shape linemen, but for me it would be easier to read catching and shuffling 1 or 2 steps than taking a snap from that awkward bent over position and then trying to drop back 3-5-7 steps. I'm sure it's not as hard as it looks, but I don't think it would be easy.

It's undeniable that under center your eyes are always downfield while in gun they are not. Now, Dan Mullin at Florida claims he can coach his QBs to catch the snap without looking at the ball, but it's as simple as where your eyes are. The advantages of gun are primarily in the footwork (there is less of it, though shotugn QB footwork often gets sloppy).

I am going to advocate the truly revolutionary "Just friggin block" scheme. "Gimmicks" have failed me so far.

I'm sure it's not as hard as it looks, but I don't think it would be easy. You'll get a much quicker read from under center because your eyes can stay completely focused downfield. It might not seem like much, but having to adjust your focus from the defense in your pre-snap read, back to the ball to get the gun snap, then back downfield is time consuming. We've had to adjust a couple of our quick routes from the gun because of this.

Spos, you can only run so many draws before teams say "F-u!" You cant run playaction effectively from the gun. and You cant can zone read in the NFL. Never will happen with any consistency teams are not going to put their PASSER in those positions$$$$$$$ sorry. CoachD, the slant flat read doesnt change nor doe hitch seam or smash or quick out...ect. People make those decisions which is why it doesnt always work..... Screens and shovels. The NFL ca't go strictly Shot gun, thats not what iw as saying but it's not going away anytime soon. I think alot more teams will use it but they have to have under center stuff as well. High School on the other hand, i don't see much need for being under center unless it's a stop clock play.

I don't coach but I like the game. I'm finishing a powerpoint on a sort of new offense that I dont think anyone runs that I know of. Its kind of looks like the swinging gate. The line plus a wr go to the far right. the center is in the middle with the QB in a 7 yard gun, the rb is in the backfield and the wrs. are bunched on the right. If anyone wants it when i'm done, i can send it to you(i don't konw how to post it on the web). The idea is to eliminate a disadvanage in size upfront and get the ball to playmakers in a lot of space. because there is no line in the way to get in the way of the qb, more throwing lanes open up. it would also be really difficult to throw zones against, because they are not the same as in a normal offense. I think it would put DCs in a bind because they would have basically one week to come up with an entirely different deffense and teach it to the players. Plus, the first game (since the opp. has never seen it before), you could suprise the other team to death and there would have no idea wats going on. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
