Coaches,
Just wondering if you sell them or do you give them away or what?
A year or two somebody changed their equipment from Schutt to Riddell or the other way around and I remember reading the post that offerd the 45 (complete set of helmets, shoulder pads and 7 piece) for something like $2500. Buyer had to pick up this stuff.

One year, we switched from Riddell to Bike helmets, and we felt there might be liability issues if we sold/gave away the helmets to someone else, so we trashed them all.

I think there is a liability issue with most schools. I take the helmets/facemasks that flunk inspection and make lamps out of them and sell them. Get a set of lamp guts from a hobby store. Make a wooden base, drill a hole through the top of the helmet--pretty easy. Can make up to $40 per

You can also cut the helmets in half and put them on plaques to make trophies!
I would love to hear what to do with old shoulder pads.

I have made lamps out of the old helmets by putting a lamp socket on the top and a lamp shade or putting a lamp socket inside the helmet and attaching a swag chain to make a hanging lamp. I have given them to my assistants, administration, etc. I've also cut them in half and made clocks out of them or mounted them on a plaque to give as an award.
Just use your imagination on how to utilize them. PLEASE DON'T GIVE THEM AWAY AS THERE IS GOING TO BE A LIABILITY ISSUE IF SOMEONE GETS HURT USING THEM.

Definitely modify them in some way no matter what you do, even if you throw them in the dumpster. I have seen a case that went to court where you would be liable if a student grabbed them from the dumpster and used them and was injured.
We have done tons of different stuff with them in years past, the helmet lamp is a great auction or fund raiser item. We have also cut circular holes in them and inserted stainless steel or plastic bowls to make a chip or dip bowl/serving bowl. Those sell well and one coach made us a great "helmet phone" which took some time to complete but is certainly a cool thing.

okay, how about selling the old equipment with one requirement, "export only"?? You can get buyers for your old stuff that is still in working order (may have 2-3 years left of product life).

We give the rejected helmets to our mom's club. They clean them up and paint them and then get all of the players and coaches to sign them and give them to the seniors as a gift at the end of the year banquet. It's pretty cool.

check out the classifieds on wifca.org.
There is a guy in Wisconsin who will buy your old helmets.
