How many of you guys who workout on a regular basis do the same basic program as you have your players use? Or do you do something completely different just looking to stay in good non-playing shape? I for example have dropped cleans except to demonstrate them. But I try and squat heavy and bench heavy. But sometimes my knees and back won't let me squat heavy anymore.

When I was working out regularly, I did more of a body building workout. My objective in the weightroom was completely different from the objective for my players, so I never worked out while they were working out. I went in very early before they arrived.

I am confined to the 16oz curls doing multiple reps on hot days, usually 384 oz squats at the grocery store on saturdays, followed by 10oz T-bone on the grill....LOL thought that would be a better work out.

Keep your body healthy. I think you can stay with the weight lifting but will need to adjust the poundage and reps. The knees and shoulders start to wear out. It seems you can keep the bench going a lot longer than the squats and cleans. It doesn't hurt to focus on the cardiovascular for your health and appearance. The kids respect a coach that is in shape.

I do a modified approach to the same workout as my players, just not as intense. I do need to do more cario work. At times I'm on the same workout as carson. The holidays and summers really do me in - 12 oz curls are tough to avoid.

I do workout, but never when the kids are lifting- I learned this approach while working with the Phillies- YOU CAN'T SUPERVISE IF YOU EXERCISE. I always workout before or after the kids are there.
Still Squat/Bench/DL/PC/Snatch to maintain... I like 1-bodypart-per-day routines where you go in and just crush shoulders/biceps, chest/triceps, back, etc... Different from what I'm used to but effective.

I train using Crossfit (www.crossfit.com). It has many of the elements I using while training our kids, but is just an ass kicker. I am with whitemike about working out with the kids. I will do a set here and there with them, but overall I do my workouts early in the morning or during my conference period or lunch. We have so many kids in our weightroom it is a safety issue if I am not watching them. As for a work out check out crossfit. It is like nothing I had everydone and am very happy with the results so far. -14 lbs and 6% Body Fat since 2nd week of January. I have cleaned up the diet and am regulating my calorie intake. I have been very out of shape since the birth of my kids and becoming a DC. I needed a change so I can watch my kids grow up. I don't want to be one of the coaches that has to wear "BIKE" shorts because no other waist band is that big.

Haven't worked out in a couple of years...I know I need to. Starting to see a flop over the belt, and the old arms ain't what they used to be. I heard crossfit is pretty good. Also when I was working out a few years ago, my wife and I used Beach Body. I dropped 40 lbs and almost 4 inches from the waist. Now I've gained back 30 lbs and all 4 inches.
