We have our first scrimmage coming up next week, a jamboree. In the past, before every scrimmage, we've exchanged information about our basic offense and defense with the coach of the other team. We've done it for every scrimmage and every coach has been very cooperative. This year, the coach of the team that we're scheduled to scrimmage first in the jamboree has refused to exchange information. He's a new coach so there's no way to find out anything about them. What I was wondering is, is our normal setup the way you guys have done it? Do you exchange information? Is it common for coaches to refuse to provide info for a scrimmage?

Every scrimmage I've ever had with another team has always been more than gracious in giving any information that is wanted. After all, all it is is a glorified practice. Sad to hear this guy would do this.

That's been my experience, too. That's why this surprised me so much.

i guess he is just trying to build up a new program by having some success?
don't schedule one with him again
or, just send the house, walkup linebackers
run middle screen the first play

Tog, I think you're right. Whatever. It IS a scrimmage and it'll give us a chance to practice adjusting on the fly.

yeah
we ran up against a look we had not worked against today, they told us what they ran, but not the whole story
we didn't do good against it, but we didn't do too bad
against the other team in the tri scrimmage we did pretty dang good, they told us about the stack they ran, we worked it 90% of the time in practice

Phantom, Wow! What is this guy thinking? We always exchange information and ideas. With the exception of those very special two hours on Friday nights, we are looking to create relationships with as many teams and coaches as we can. Of course, we have our rivals and some shaky history with some schools but, we ain't scrimmaging those guys either. The point is, somebody needs to let this guy know that the idea of the scrimmage is to teach, learn, evaluate, and get a sense as to how well you team is progressing - TOGETHER.

New coach, must not realize that it will help him when the season roles around when teams are going to scout. Gives him some ideas of what other teams are going to do against him and gives him time to make adjustments. Not to mention, and ethically might not be the highest of standards, but if I was in that situation, I would give what ever information is possible to his first opponent. If we working together more in a scimmage I might not be as gracious to his first opponent.

WOW! In a nine team conference, we only have one program that exchanges film with us at ANY POINT of the season....we have to scout everything ourselves. Must be nice when coaches cooperate.
