How do you guys break down film? Do you do a down and distance for the defense to establish blitz tendecies? Do you break your staff up and give those guys certain things to look at? Just trying to get a general idea of what some of you are doing

we use dsv for one thing.
all tapes are uploaded into a computer & the angles are tied together (tight with wide of same play). we breakdown each play based on the following: down/distance yard / hash offense formation &/or motion offense play scheme (dropback, lead, trap, sprint, play-action) defensive front defensive stunt (DL) defensive blitz (LB) defensive coverage gain or result.
all information is then input into the computer for the specific play. now, we can do any type of reports we want, and make any type of video cutups we want.

Coach Huey is right on the mark. We like to start with these two questions. 1-Who is the best player on Defense 2-Who is the worst player on Defense

good point to bring up veer about id'ing their personnel.
in the game plan portion we want to look for match-ups: how will formations help us? how will shifts? motions? etc.
once we get all the reports from the film breakdown, we go to our play selection process:
what sets? what plays from those sets? who are we going to attack & with what? do they have any "automatics"? i. e. they only play 1 (maybe 2) defenses vs certain sets, motions, etc. --- what will we do to get these looks and what plays will be run from them
our thinking follows this thought process for the most part.

Identify the best player they have on defense (hopefully he doesnt play where we love to run), identify the best lineman they have (that is where they will want to run).
