What is your high school fall camp schedule? Do you have two-a-days, three-a-days, or just one practice??? When do you start two-a -day the first day of practice or do you give the players a few days to get use to practicing before go to multiple practices??? Do you have one practice in the morning and one at night or do you keep the kids all day long for a practice lunch, meetings, and another practice? How do you feed the players??? Sorry for all the questions but I'm looking to do some research to see what others team do to see if there are better ways then the current way we do things. We currently practice once a day, at night for our fall camp practices. We also pratice twice a week during the summer at night. When schol starts we will begin practicing right afterschool. Thanks for the help.

We go helmets three nights a week during July. Our schedule for our first offical week has been:
7-9:15 am Defense 9:45-10:30ish special teams in helmets 11:30 Lunch then go home 4:00 Film from morning or previous night 5-7:15ish Offense
Been a great schedule so far for us I really like the break in between keeps the kids fresh and they like having some time in between plus we miss the hot parts of the day. We goto camp tomorrow and will keep the same schedule almost with films after dinner and get them in bed by 11 and up at 6am or so.

For 2 platoon system:
3 to 4 Defense on the field, Offense wt room, Freshman offense
4 to 5 Offense on the field, Defense wt room, Freshmen defense
5 to 6 Offense and Defense on the field, Freshmen wt room go home at 5:45
6 to 7 Break (get off feet and rehydrate, also eat snack)
7 to 8:30 Defense and offense on the field
This has been a really good schedule for our kids seeing that most don't have rides to and from school at all times and several work in the morning (have to help support their families as long as they can). Also with teachers' inservice starting this next week we would have to start at 3:00 this next coming week.
The one thing about it is that the coaches have to really work. We are on the field for all practices. The coordinators run the wt room but everyone else coaches the freshmen.

I always thought sending the players home in between sessions would be a problem for the parents picking up and dropping their kids off twice a day. But then the problem is feeding them.

What we did this year was 7-9:45 in the morning and 5-7:45 at night. I know this is stating the obvious, but heat is really an issue with that afternoon time. My favorite schedule, though, has been going from 8-10, one hour off, 9-11 in the morning. We had the boosters bring in fruit and water to drink during the hour off.

TWO-A-DAY Schedule 8-8:20 dress/tape 8:20-8:55 chalk o and d 9:00 specialties stations 9:15-25 stretch 9:20-9:50 indy o and d (platoons) 9:50 - 10:15 skelly/inside run 10:15-10:25 something special 10:25-? team 10:50 talk and done 11:05 coaches meet
2:00-5:00 same thing except we work on one special team instead of stations and we condition at the pm practice.

8:30-8:45: Offensive Meeting
8:45-11:45: Morning Practice 8:45-8:55: Agility period 8:55-9:05: Dynamic stretch 9:05-9:15: Blocking or tackling circuit 9:15-10:15: Defense (focus on running game) 10:15-10:25: Turnover circuit 10:25-11:25: Offense (focus on running game) 11:25-11:40: Lift or conditioning 11:40-11:45: Cooldown stretch
11:45-1:00 Lunch (We provide a meal for the boys. It is nothing fancy. Usually it consists of sandwiches (we provide bread, meat, peanut butter, and cheese--they make their own), Powerade (our assistant coach works for Coke so we get all kinds of donations), and fruit. Sometimes we will grill hamburgers or hotdogs and do some team building.)
1:00-1:15 Special Teams or Defensive Meeting
1:15-2:45 Afternoon Practice 1:15-1:25 Warm-up 1:25-1:35 Special Teams breakdown 1:35-1:55 Installation of a special team 1:55-2:45 Skeleton & OL pass pro drills/DL pass rush drills

I always thought sending the players home in between sessions would be a problem for the parents picking up and dropping their kids off twice a day. But then the problem is feeding them. Our boosters do a great job feeding them lunch the first week then they do breakfast, lunch and dinner at camp. They are a hard working very supportive group. They treat us well the first two weeks.

We found that the longer we keep the kids, the less focused and less productive the practice. The first two weeks, we have 2 per day:
8:00-9:30am & 5:00-6:30pm
We stick the practice schedule to the minute with a horn at the end of each period. After 2 days, the kids realized that they will only be on the field for exactly 1 1/2 hours at a clip, and we have gotten tremendous effort during those 1 1/2 hours. We found that when kids believe practice (and conditioning) may drag on, they pace themselves.
