Coaches,
Just curious to see how you guys would respond to this thread.
I'm a HC at the HS level; been doing it for 2 years at this school. Today, I received a call from the Assistant Head Coach and Head Coach from a local JUCO, they want to hire me as their new DL coach (definitely unexpected).
I have grown a custom to calling the shots and honestly its pretty cool, but at the same time, coaching at the next level, and receiving higher pay and less responsibility (other then doing recruiting) is very intriguing.
My Question to you is what would be your choice and why? YOUR THOUGHTS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED ....

I was being serious Tog, I figured Kw had coached on both levels...was that inappropriate?

The statement itself is not inapropriate. Judging from the attitude you display towards KW on other threads makes one read between the lines a little though doesn't it?

Big Daddy, I hope to have a canundrum like that someday! Here's the advice from a lowly hs position coach: Think about your family first. Will the extra hours at the coaches office and cross state/region away trips affect your family members? Will you be teaching a class? Do you know the HC and DC at the juco well? Would they be good people to work with? Does the juco program get alot of support? How successful is your hs program?
Dos centavos provided by the duck.

As an ex "college" guy, I just wanted to give you some feedback and some things to consider.
1. I would be SHOCKED if you were getting paid better at the JUCO than you are at the HS, unless you are just a coach at the HS and not a teacher.
2. Job security. Not quite sure how it works at the JUCO levels, but i know at my old level...if my head coach leaves for another job, I am out of a job. If my head coach gets fire, I am out of a job. If my head coach retires, I am out of a job.
3. Program Importance. This may sound counter intuitive, but the High School program may be "more important" than the JUCO. Bigger following, more publicity, more limelight etc.
4. Getting busted 2 grades..lol. Going from being the head honcho to answering to TWO people ( Coordinator and HC) is quite different.
5. Job Advancement. As I am sure you know, the college gig is all about networking and what I call "satellite" advancement. You need someone in your Satellite system (network) to move up, then you go with them, meet someone new who moves up, and you go with them..etc.
6....this is a biggie..RETIRMENT. Not much long term security with the college gig either.
7. Family life...the college coach is the transient coach. Network and move. Network and move.
Just some things to consider.
These are all "negatives" yes.
The positives are that you do get to work with a higher caliber of athlete. You DO get to spend more time dealing with football matters, and less time with education. As a POSITION coach, you will get the luxury of not having to deal with things outside of football. And it is a new venture for you.
