coaching, and what its really about...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
know fellas, I dont often post about all of the real responsibilities a coach has...but i spent all weekend reading great articles by very successful coaches. Seems every one of them talked about a strong faith built program and about making winners not only on the field but off it. I am preparing my coaching interview packet and have titled it "Dynasty, winners for life" because my own eyes have been futher opened by the great stuff I read about coaches touching lives. We all want to win, we want to go undefeated. We want to win our championships...yknow, truth is, some very bad programs (in their effect on the kids) win championships while some very useful programs (that make kids feel important, build self esteem, teach and instill discipline and all of that great intangible stuff)will never win it all. When you think that every game played results in at least one team coming away without a win...it makes you think. what are you really teaching the kids. I have totally deemphasized my own xs and os for the interview process, in fact, i put the xs and os section in a different manual alltogether and have a PROGRAM that outlines essentially what i want to provide the kids and how i plan to do it. I feel somewhat awakened after studying the different programs around the country....
If you guys wouldnt mind helping me out, id really appreciate you posting some interview questions and more importantly what you guys consider the important (non xs and os) componnents of a great football program for life. (the program will include youth thru hs and beyond if you follow my thinking.)
Id like to hear what you guys do to celebrate your seniors and make every kid feel important to the program.
when my packet is complete I will share it.
