I've thought the same things about the show as I watched every episode. Butkus just seems to just mess around a lot of the time and it seems like Ray Crockett, and the other assistant Head Coach are the only two who actually care...
And your comment about their size is something I've noticed. I heard this was Western Penn. football, and I was surprised because some of those kids look small, and slow, just not the type of football I expected. Maybe it's one of the smaller divisions?

Montour is AAA football. One thing I notices is that thier opponents all looked decently big, fast,. etc. There were some really good looking teams they were playing. Not that I know a whole lot about Western PA football, but it is what I observed. Anyone from PA care to comment? I would love to hear the perspective of someone from that area.

heard this whole thing was a total fiasco. many problems, and butkus quit on the kids after 8 weeks due to a "contractual" thing.

i heard they did not like some of the motivational techniques he used.
he was to tough on the kids and the community did not like that.

The whole thing is a sham...
Apparently, Butkus was giving the team a profanity-laced halftime speech and one of the seniors spoke up and said something to the effect of, "Screw you, old man. You're not our real coach. You are out of here as soon as the season is over." Butkus went ballistic and basically quit the show. There's a story about it over on Hugh Wyatt's site in "News You Can Use", but I couldn't find it.
I guess the kids really liked Ray Crockett, who genuinely did some coaching and seemed to care about the kids.
Butkus is a tool...Yeah, he was a great linebacker like 500 years ago, but his tired tough-guy act has worn really thin on me. His problem is that he takes himself WAY too seriously.
