they should already be fired up for rivalry week
if not then find some old codgers in town to come in and talk about their battles with the rivalry
paint a dummy the other team's color and let em all knock the mess out of it
someone will have an idea

Very little needs to be said during that kind of week. I might listen to Gordon Wood's advice and not get them too excited/pumped/fired up, etc. Focus on the fundamentals and the keys to winning the game.
We always tell our kids that pump lasts a couple of drives, but substance lasts the entire game.

About 30 years ago, were 0fer and playing the rival who was ranked #1 in our class. The HC and I drove 30 miles to mail a letter to the team that included a pair of pink panties. We did this so the kids could see where it was post marked from. It fired our kids up and we only lost by a score of 7-14. We finished the season with 1 victory and the other team won the state championship. I think this was an extreme form of motivation.

Not to be a jerk, but if kids can't get up for a rivalry game then they never will.

I sent my team a RIP wreath one year. The wreath was in our rivals school colors. Had it delivered on thursday. The a kids took pieces of it with them to the game. We won in over time 20-14.
