Can Katy mash em and kill some clock? Speaking from experience....Yes, they have a good mix on offense. I agree with you, I am curious if their D can slow down SLC. Katy's special teams are outstanding too, that might be the fudge factor in a game like this.

Is katy's ol as huge and mobile as they have been other years they won state? Are they still running the power with the bsg pulling around? If so, I think they can manage the game by killing off a lot of time, hope for a couple of 3 and outs and hope that SLC rythem gets thrown off.

slc is so dangerous offensively. they will get theirs.....key is can katy get some, too.
because they can score so quickly and so often, it really changes your approach on offense. you almost have to be perfect every time you have the ball. too many punts and it can get real ugly.

That's why Katy has to jam the ball and kill some clock. and while doing so, score.

I think that SLC is doing some many things well right now and they have so much positive momentum, its just hard to go against them. I hope this is a competitive game and if Katy can slow the tempo down and make it a 4 quarter game, they have a great shot.

I've been hearing the games over the net for the SLC game for the last two weeks.
Plano gave SLC everything they could give. They didn't have anything left in the tank for SLC in the 2nd half.
Lufkin was making the game very competitive against SLC until the 3rd qtr. Lufkin's ordeal was losing their left-handed QB in the quarterfinal game from a right arm/hand broken in 2 places.
I'm not sure what Katy runs offensively. Their HC retired after beating SLC for the title in 2003-2004. They are the only team that has beaten SLC in the Dragon's reign of 4 consecutive trips to state.
My personal theory is that Caroll needs to get started right away and never let Katy have a chance. Coach Todd Dodge has been wanting a rematch since that defeat.

Yes they still run the same stuff and the line is big, mobile and mean. Their back is as good as any they have had. I like anytime that a team that is not in the present "trend" wins. With that said I don't think it is ever really smart to go against SLC. They do such a great job in that offense.

If you would like to watch the Lufkin vs SLC game, go to www.cityoflufkin.com/panthers.htm Lufkin was without their starting QB & a starting LB. Their All State DB played injured (#11). Keep an eye out for Dez Bryant(WR #8). He will be a Sr next year.

Thats some big time high school football there! Is that the largest size schools there in texas? Thats a lot of passing for a semi in the state championships! Don't see quite that much here in GA.

I was really impressed with the skill that SLC team ran the spread. I didn't watch the championship game but watched an old 2003 Katy vs. Lufkin game that lp78 put on here. This game between Katy and SLC would be a great example for the off. and def. philosophy post! A ball control power type offense vs. a ball control spread offense. Both having good aggressive defenses, great special teams. The spread team might have an advantage of the quicker strike ability if they had to come from behind but otherwise it would probably come down to turnovers, EP's made and who had the ball for the last drive of the game. Again, very impressive high school ball out there in Texas!

SLC vs Katy was for the 5A Div II State Championship. In Texas the top 3 teams from each District make the play-offs. The school with the largest enrollment going Div. I & the next 2 teams going Div. II. The Div. II bracket is normally the strongest. Next year they will have 4 teams make the play-offs from each Dist. 2 teams in D1 & D2. One word on this. MONEY!

Yeah, I'll say! I guess aroung here you'd have to see the bigger money/tradition schools like Valdosta, Lowndes Co., maybe Camden Co. or some big schools around the Atlanta area to see facilities and stuff like that? But thats a fer piece from us down here in rural southwest Georgia!

This guy is a genuine legend and a heck of a coach folks. You'll learn something from him.
