I was wondering if any of you guys have visited with colleges and talked football. Which coaches will let you pick their brain. I know some that give you just the basics but that is it. I am mostly interested in getting drills and some secondary schemes.

I am not trying to make this a negative thread. I don't care if anybody says anything bad at all, just wanting to know who is willing to help a feller.

Most every coach I've talked to is more than happy to talk turkey.
Just last year, I've talked and visted with Western Illinois coaches Don Patterson & Vince Okresh - Illinois State's Ron Lambert, Galen Scott, Rashuan Frost, & Brad Cornleson - Augustana College's Jim Barnes - St.Ambrose's Todd Sturdy & Lon Wilkinson..
Just call them up, mention your interest, and they'd be more than happy to have you on campus....watch practice, see if you've got specific questions they can answer....

I go and pick the brain of both OL coaches at the University of Minnesota each year. I just give them a call and ask when a good time is for me to come in and they have film, meeting rooms, etc.. all set up for me.

Any coach would be willing to help out... Just have to make the calls. The worst they can say is no...

I typically make three tri[s a year one to Northwestern, one to Madison and Wisconsin and one to Iowa State. They set up the computer, show me how to run it,and let me go at it. I have even gotten to know the video coordinators at those schools and they ahve even given me film for me to take with me.

As others have said, call and ask. All they can say is no. Don't think it has to be D.1 guys. There are a lot of good coaches at all levels.

Have a check round the team websites to get some contacts prior to turning up. I tried various teams from NFL down through college to Div 1AA at the start of last year as I was visiting Carolina from the UK
Emailed probably a total of 22 teams and only got replies from Georgia Southern and Coastal Carolina. Went to Coastal and spent 9 days with the defence and LB's. Basically I joined the teams for practice, meetings and wieght sessions and picked the brains of a few coachs. Was allowed to video their drills.
So if you can get talking to someone, I always tried the HC you are half way there

I will echo what phantom has to say! Small college coaches are great as well. I am very fortunite to live in a location that has very good Div II and Div III football. In January and February when we have the one day vacations. (Martin Luther King or Presidents day) I always set up a time to go visit one of the small schools.
